I *think* these mugs will be 12-14oz after 14% shrinkage. Large but not massive. I'll also make some 6-8oz versions.

As a translator, you're conditioned by your work to seek 1:1 correspondences, but in the actual work of translating, odds are you often select lower-frequency words for specific affect (depending on your domain).

But yes, some domains of language have been turned into code, which is somewhat resistant to change by design.

Moreover: some contracts and deeds have to be in effect for dozens of years. Laws even for at least a hundred years. Even recent laws can have a preambula referring to previous laws of at least a hundred years old. Hence fast language change is impossible, and not even desirable nor advisable (see what I did there?).
You are actually changing my words and intentions.

Well, if you really care about laws and legal instruments like contracts and deeds to mean the same even while languages evolve, you can convert them in code, which should provide precise semantics. For example, take a look at this: github.com/CatalaLang/catala
The evolution of language is inevitable. I gather that the pace of evolution might have quickened with the broad availability of internet and the ability to easily communicate across socio-linguistic and cultural boundaries, which has led to, let's call it, cultural and linguistic diffusion, among other things. New words are being coined and borrowed from other languages (and old ones repurposed, e.g., 'woke' and 'cringe') to allow for sufficient representability of the evolving socio-cultural mindscape. Emojis and sticker packs challenge the foundation of how we understand language and propagate it to future generations. Prescriptivist usage of language is now mostly relegated to formal and academic settings.

I have been informed that writing like this, in informal contexts, where simpler words could have been used instead, it might come off as sophomoric or pretentious. Seriously, languages grow and change. So, as with many other topics, it is advisable to find the golden middle (typically a difficult thing to do) between being a grammar nazi and an illiterate person.
Linguistic prescription, in moderate doses, is a good thing, since it increases clarity. Taken to an extreme it is a bad thing.

Orthography is als helpful, because it makes texts a lot easier to read. It should not be used to ridicule people who make mistakes though.
Same for grammar rules - they should be a language acquisition tool, not a penalizing tool.
