A group of white South Africans arrived in the U.S. today under President Trump's refugee plan. Trump said that members of the country's Afrikaner minority were victims of "racial discrimination" and claimed that a genocide was taking place targeting white farmers — allegations that have been widely discredited. The United Nations refugee agency, UNHCR, has also not been involved in the resettlement scheme, and Afrikaner author Max du Preez told @BBCNews that the claims were a "total absurdity" based on "nothing." White South Africans make up just 7.3% of the population, but own the vast majority of privately held farmland, according to a 2017 government report. So here's another 'fuck corporate waste' project I did to rescue a shit consumer product.
This laundry hamper is made of plastic fabric. Two months along, the handles started to tear away from the sides—the way they were designed to.
So I got some black polyurethane strapping and used a gorilla-style glue to reinforce everything. (That glue is brilliant for this sort of thing, especially synthetic fabric.)
Garbage reduced, $40 unwasted.

While sitting in the backyard with Charlie, we listened to a spirited sing-off between a northern cardinal, a brown thrasher, a great crested flycatcher, and a Carolina wren. Their songs filled the air, creating a beautiful chorus, though the only birds I actually spotted were the cardinals. As our outdoor session came to an end, I got up, and we wandered to the edge of the fence, scanning the surrounding trees in hopes of catching a glimpse of the hidden singers. Despite our efforts, they remained tucked away in the foliage. Just as we were looking up, a red-bellied woodpecker (Melanerpes carolinus) suddenly landed in the oak tree above us, offering an unexpected and welcome sight.
