I've also realised that I've taken the more complicated approach with my site, but that's because it works for me.

As for the commenting, so far it is working well. I just have to publish twice. Basically,
1. Publish a post on my site to get the URL.
2. Creat a Mastodon post that includes a URL to my site post so I can get the Mastodon post ID.
3. Update my site post with the Mastodon ID and republish.
It's an extra step, but not much since I do not have to maintain anything extra and I already use Mastodon.

A1: Hello! I'm Matt, and one thing I created and then gave away is all the vector patterns I drew for my Rohirrim (Lord of the Rings) costumes. I feel like I did a pretty good job making clean patterns from the available reference material, and if my work can help someone get a head start on their own costume, all the better for the community. My ethos is that sharing is always better then hoarding. I have benefited from knowledge, reference photos, and patterns that others have offered for free, and if even just one cosplayer benefits from my patterns, it was worth it.
