Completely agreed.
I like having contact with other people, but I prefer to keep a certain distance even with friends. And friends in particular like to overstep certain boundaries, which can be very stressful.
In my life, I've often put my heart and soul into relationships with other people, be it relatives, friends or men in a partnership. Everything together was certainly beautiful, but the bottom line was that it was too often hurtful. I won't do it like that anymore.

in reply to AI6YR Ben • • •I do feel like I am not enough of a cyclist to qualify for the "bicycle advisory group" we currently have if they took applications for "bcicyling experience", ha ha, everywhere there apparently has decades of road racing experience, LOL. (with the exception of @technotion, who I appreciate as a fellow "use cycling to get around" person)
Mostly feels like: retired, have been cycling all of their life, probably competitive cyclist of one form or another, at the amateur level at least... part of an organized club. I'm sure good folks if I got to know them better... (a few folks here! Hi guys!) But I think the considerations for road bicycling with a club (and experience level of "real" cyclists) can be dramatically different than "would like to see more people bicycling to the store/work/school". There is a segment that are cyclists who also are urban planners/transportation background professionally (who do seem to understand the "not an old road cyclist in a club" issues a LOT BETTER). And surprisingly, almost no MTB representation, except the folks from the bike team there (hi all!)... maybe they just don't have a lot to say about roads....
