Carbon Brief analysis shows that the growth in China's clean power generation has caused its CO2 emissions to fall despite increasing power demand.
The decline in power-sector emissions is attributed to the growth in renewable energy, specifically wind, solar, and nuclear power, which has led to a decrease in coal-power output. This trend of falling power-sector emissions is likely to continue in 2025.

"OSNews uses a cookie popup and displays advertising, something we have to do to gain a little bit of extra income – but I’m not happy about it. Our ads don’t provide us with much income, perhaps about €150-200, but that’s still a decent enough chunk of our income pie that we need it. I would greatly prefer we turn off these ads altogether, but in order to be able to afford that, we’d need to up our Patreon income. OSNews Patreons get an ad-free version of OSNews.
That’s a long and slow process, especially with the current economic uncertainty making people reconsider their expenses. Disabling our ads altogether for everyone once we’re fully reader-funded is still my end goal, but until the world around us settles down a bit, that’s a little while off. If you want to speed this process up – you can become an OSNews Patreon and enjoy an ad-free OSNews today."

Stubsack: weekly thread for sneers not worth an entire post, week ending 18th May 2025
Need to let loose a primal scream without collecting footnotes first? Have a sneer percolating in your system but not enough time/energy to make a whole post about it? Go forth and be mid: Welcome to the Stubsack, your first port of call for learning fresh Awful you’ll near-instantly regret.
Any awful.systems sub may be subsneered in this subthread, techtakes or no.
If your sneer seems higher quality than you thought, feel free to cut’n’paste it into its own post — there’s no quota for posting and the bar really isn’t that high.
The post Xitter web has spawned soo many “esoteric” right wing freaks, but there’s no appropriate sneer-space for them. I’m talking redscare-ish, reality challenged “culture critics” who write about everything but understand nothing. I’m talking about reply-guys who make the same 6 tweets about the same 3 subjects. They’re inescapable at this point, yet I don’t see them mocked (as much as they should be)Like, there was one dude a while back who insisted that women couldn’t be surgeons because they didn’t believe in the moon or in stars? I think each and every one of these guys is uniquely fucked up and if I can’t escape them, I would love to sneer at them.

Republicans passed a law stripping the power to appoint election board members from North Carolina’s (D) governor and gave it to (R) auditor
The board oversees virtually every aspect of state elections, large and small, from setting rules dictating what makes ballots valid or invalid to monitoring compliance with campaign finance laws. In the Supreme Court race, it consistently worked to block Griffin’s challenges.
When Josh Stein won a four-year term last fall, a Republican supermajority in the state legislature passed a law, then overrode his predecessor’s veto, to transfer this power to the state auditor. It was an unusual step. No other state has elections overseen by the state auditor.
Stein sued to block the law and, initially, a lower court sided with him. But in April, the state’s Court of Appeals, which has a Republican majority, issued a three-sentence decision overturning the lower court’s ruling without hearing oral arguments.
After N.C. Supreme Court Win, Democrats Lose Control of Board That Sets Voting Rules
Republican Jefferson Griffin conceded after a monthslong legal battle. But Democrats suffered a defeat that may be more consequential: losing control of the state board that sets voting rules and adjudicates election disputes.ProPublica

China has a clear energy transition plan, and short term use of coal is perfectly in line with that.

Unknown parent • • •@clhenrick the reality is that the west outsourced all its industry to China over many decades, and now we have people like you bleating about China accounting for 30% of all emissions globally. The fact that you think you've made a valid point here is truly incredible.
The reality is that China has done more to transition off fossil fuels than any other major nation in the world. The fact is that emissions in China are actually dropping while the no meaningful changes is happening in the west.

You can keep repeating that they consume more coal till you're blue in the face, but the fact is that their per capita energy usage is far below that of Burgerland or other western economies.
So, not only is fossil fuel usage in China declining, they're already using far less energy per capita than the west.
I guess engaging with reality is a bridge too far for you.

What people keep trying to explain to you, and you're aggressively refusing to understand, is that it's overall emissions and that trajectory that matter.
Yogthos
Unknown parent • • •@clhenrick the reality is that you need to use existing energy to produce new energy sources. Evidently this concept is very difficult for you to comprehend.

Unknown parent • • •2. At the same time that I agree with you on #1 China is still burning more coal than the *rest of the world combined*, which is *very very very* bad since coal accounts for 30% of all GHG emissions globally. We all need to get coal usage down to zero ASAP.
It seems like there is some cognitive dissonance for you, in holding two opposing things at once (minor lowering of GHG while still burning a fuck ton of coal). But 2 opposing things can be true at once. That is a reality.
Peace!
Chris Henrick
Unknown parent • • •Chris Henrick
in reply to Chris Henrick • • •last thing I'll say since I don't want to continue to engage with someone who is disrespecting me, as it shows lack of having a "good faith" argument.
My point:
1. I agree that China being able to reduce its GHG is a great thing the world desperately needs and don't dispute the 1% decrease over 1 year that your original article reported. Your other articles have not shown more than that, only that China says it aims to reduce emissions (while failing to meet previous Paris goals)
