in reply to Patrik

@Patrik

I see.

The video captures a scene on a rooftop with a clear blue sky in the background. A flagpole with the Israeli flag is prominently featured, waving in the wind. The flag is white with a blue Star of David and two blue horizontal stripes. A black bird, possibly a crow, is perched on the flagpole, flapping its wings and causing the flag to flutter. The bird's movements are dynamic, with its wings spread wide at times, creating a striking contrast against the flag. The rooftop has a white chimney and a glass railing, with some furniture visible in the background. The video focuses on the interaction between the bird and the flag, highlighting the bird's actions and the flag's movement.

The image shows a white delivery van with text on its side. The text is in Greek and English. The main text in large letters reads "ΠΛΑΤΑΝ," which is the name of the company. Below this, in smaller text, it says "ΑΦΟΙ Π.Π. ΣΕΝΘΡΟΠΟΥΛΟΙ Ο.Ε." and "ΑΦ ΕΜΠΟΡΙΟ ΤΡΟΟΙΜΑΝ & ΠΟΤΑΝ," which translates to "Wholesale food and drink trade." Additionally, there is English text that reads "wholesale food & drink trade." The van is parked on a street with a clear blue sky in the background. There are overhead electrical lines visible, suggesting the van is near a railway or tram line. The van appears to be a commercial vehicle used for transporting goods.

I think it might have been around the year 2000 that I bought a pack of self-adhesive stamps (which I never got anywhere near using up) that cost 50c per stamp.

Out of curiosity, I've just done a calculation of 25 years of compounded 5% price increase per year (based on a rough guess that the annual CPI increase might average about 5%), and got a cost for this year of $1.693. That's surprisingly close to the new price.

(I sometimes obsess about stuff like this. Not sure why.)

Disturbing but important commentary. This paragraph sent a chill down my spine:

“Trump is using the protests in LA as his equivalent of the burning of the Reichstag—a ginned-up emergency used to deploy dictatorial powers, which once deployed won’t be voluntarily withdrawn.”

Looks like there's been a big whoopsie in the construction of the Parramatta Metro:

"Inadequate early investigations into the depth of building foundations in Parramatta have brought part of Sydney’s largest metro rail project to a grinding halt, threatening cost blowouts and delays.

"For six weeks, two giant boring machines digging twin tunnels for the $25.3 billion Metro West line have been at a standstill several hundred metres east of the sprawling site in Parramatta’s CBD for a $380 million station.

"The halt has been sparked by concerns about the depth of piles for one of the buildings that forms a major Telstra exchange, which extends for almost a block from Church to Marsden streets.

"Internal documents seen by the Herald show Sydney Metro and contractors were concerned, well over a year ago, about the prospect of one of the 180-metre-long tunnelling machines digging too close to the piles of the multi-storey Telstra building at 213 Church Street.

"They show officials were still unsure last year of the depth of the foundations, and how close they were to Metro West’s planned northern tunnel.

"Sources close to the project who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter say it raises questions about the failure to carry out adequate geotechnical investigations into the building’s foundations years before the tunnel alignment was chosen."

"I drive an electric vehicle because I am poor,"
A good explanatory article about why Chinese #EVs are showing Western companies how to make EVs.
Another good quote, and probably the reason traditional car companies are so far behind: "The rich drive petrol cars because they have unlimited resources,"
Unfortunately also some grumpy old man quotes, no doubt "for balance", but it's a BBC article.

Unpicking Australian sovereignty

Sovereignty will always be central to Australia’s national security debate. But invoking the word isn’t enough. We need to understand it, define it and defend it not as a relic of strategic nostalgia but as a living, evolving capacity to act in the national interest. #auspol
