The quickest way to defang organised crime would be to legalise possession of all drugs for use, and set up regulated, taxed supply systems, as appropriate.
As a rule of thumb, if it's less harmful than alcohol (cannabis, MDMA, entheogens), set up a competitive market for licensed vendors, like how tobacco is regulated now. If it's more harmful (meth, cocaine) make it a prescription drug. Like the way NZ currently regulates cannabis.

Israeli police have been given new guidelines allowing any officer to act against journalists and media crews documenting missile strike sites based on their individual judgment. The instructions specifically target foreign media not bound by Israeli censorship, permitting police to demand identification, remove journalists from scenes, and detain them for investigation on charges of revealing classified information or violating censorship orders.
These extraordinary powers were granted following demands by National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi to require foreign journalists to obtain written pre-approval from military censors before documenting strike sites.
The Attorney General has temporarily blocked this move. The new police guidelines go beyond existing military censor instructions and allow detention on charges carrying penalties of life imprisonment or 15 years in prison.
Foreign journalists, particularly Arabic media outlets, have reported hostile treatment by police at various strike sites, with discrimination evident as Israeli journalists were granted access while foreign reporters were initially barred.
