Já eu vejo uma cada vez maior aproximação entre as diferentes variantes do português, com crescente influência brasileira, mas também um futuro muito africano ao virar da esquina. A internet está de facto a aproximar o que o oceano separa.

@digfish nas lingua isso é mais complicado porque varia conforme situações individuais, e no caso do PT-BR temos que considerar o efeito da diglossia - o registo "educado" é muito mais próximo do português de Portugal do que o registo mais popular. E é possível a falantes da maior parte das línguas românicas comunicar entre si com algum esforço.
Mas mesmo tendo isto em conta, acho que as várias variantes regionais do Português estão bem dentro da variação normal de uma língua.
