🇺🇸: The jackdaw (Coloeus monedula) is a songbird species in the corvid family (Corvidae). The jackdaw is a medium-sized corvid, measuring 33–39 cm in length. It appears stocky especially compared to most ravens and crows and has a sturdy, powerful beak and relatively short legs. Its distribution area covers almost the entire temperate Western Palearctic from Central Asia to North Africa. Like other ravens and crows, the jackdaw is omnivorous. Its diet focuses on seeds and insects. It also eats small vertebrates, snails, bird eggs, carrion, and, in settlements, human waste.

🇩🇪: Die Dohle (Coloeus monedula) ist eine Singvogelart aus der Familie der Rabenvögel (Corvidae). Die Dohle ist ein mittelgroßer Rabenvogel von 33–39 cm Körperlänge. Sie wirkt vor allem im Vergleich mit den meisten Raben und Krähen gedrungen und besitzt einen stämmigen, kräftigen Schnabel sowie relativ kurze Beine. Das Verbreitungsgebiet umfasst fast die gesamte gemäßigte Westpaläarktis von Zentralasien bis Nordafrika. Wie auch andere Raben und Krähen ist die Dohle ein Allesfresser. Der Schwerpunkt des Nahrungsspektrums liegt auf Samen und Insekten. Daneben frisst sie auch kleine Wirbeltiere, Schnecken, Vogeleier, Aas und in Siedlungen auch menschliche Abfälle.
