It was a terrible thing that happened. But they were trying in all fronts. It was the gamers(tm) that fell for it.
The furry communities are aware of the constant tryouts to infiltrate right wing people and talking points (failing spectacularly) and also anime communities (with moderate success).
But it was gaming that was the successful trial. And yes this attempt made them learn how to talk, how to infiltrate, how to do all the things they do now in politics.

When I visited it was packed - people everywhere, bumper to bumper stop start traffic, & barely enough room for me to park my moto, let alone a common US ute or RV.
A beautiful place, but even a decade ago it was clearly in danger of being loved to death.
