In 2012, the General Assembly voted overwhelmingly to upgrade this, recognising #Palestine as a non-member permanent observer state.
It seems paradoxical why the leader of the PLO has been denied access to the USA which is hosting a meeting to discuss the statehood of the country to which he belongs

Es gibt einen Volksentscheid von letztem November gegen einen Bundesbeschluss, bestimmte Engpässe des Autobahnnetzes auszubauen.

Die Message war wie immer implizit, aber eigentlich klar: Keine Autobahnausbauten mehr.
Der zuständige Bundesrat will aber eine andere Message gehört haben. Er beschleunigt jetzt den Ausbau *anderer* Stellen des Autobahnnetzes, weil gegen die ja "niemand etwas hat".
Ich meine auch sowas gelesen zu haben, dass SVP und FDP noch mal einzeln über jedes Ausbauprojekt abstimmen wollen.

The HQ was originally in Switzerland in the days of the League of Nations.
But the League had trouble getting things done because the US refused to join. So, when the League turned into the UN they moved the HQ to the USA to make Americans feel better about being a UN member.
But yeah, if the US are refusing heads of state permission to attend the UN, it does call that policy into question. AFAIK they never refused e.g. Soviet leaders permission to come even in the worst days of the Cold War.
