This morning's email from my favorite local garden and landscape company got me good. 😅 Among other things, picked up a $5 coreopsis in rough (but revivable) shape that came with a purslane ridealong and an enormous $5 begonia hanging basket that I can probably overwinter.

Ich versteh deine Meinung. Habe lange genug selbst so gedacht.
Und als ich dann im engeren Umfeld mitbekommen habe, wie sehr am Zahnfleisch eine alleinerziehende Mutter mit ihren 2 Kindern kroch... und dann waren mal über Nacht weg... und sie sagte "Sie fehlen mir schon" hab ich das so gar überhaupt nicht verstanden.
Dann wurde ich selbst Vater.
Und die Welt hat sich grundlegend verändert. Ja, ich freue mich schon auf die Zeit, wo ich wieder mal einfach so aufs Fahrrad oder in den Zug hüpfen kann und irgendwohin fahren, wo ich grad will.
Aber wenn du so einen jungen Menschen beim Heranwachsen begleiten darfst, ist das schon ein unheimliches Geschenk.
Dass die Gesellschaft kinderfeindlich ist, geschenkt. Dass Autos wichtiger sind als Kinder... geschenkt.
Aber einem Kind die eigenen Erfahrungen und Werte weitergeben, es beim Großwerden begleiten, zu sehen, wie so ein kleiner Mensch Stück für Stück lernt und dabei glücklich ist... das ist mit keinem Geld der Welt bezahlbar.
Die Demut die ich heute verspüre, wenn man ein gesundes, intelligentes und hübsches Kind hat... ist auch SEHR GROSS... denn allein in unserem kleinen Umfeld wurden schon Kinder vom Auto totgefahren, sind im Pool ertrunken, sind einfach nicht gesund, haben deutliche Defizite in der intelligenz und geistigen Entwicklung... es ist nicht so, dass es normal ist, dass ein Kind "normal" ist... es ist ein Geschenk. Und ich hab es mit Demut angenommen. Obwohl ich dereinst einmal so dachte wie du.

Keine Frage, es ist anstrengend, Kinder großzuziehen... und es ist anstrengend, das in einer kinderfeindlichen Welt zu tun.
Aber vergiss eines nicht... wenn du schon die schönen Seiten des Kinderhabens so gar nicht verstehen kannst...
Irgendjemand wird auch mal deinen Arsch suswischen, weil du nicht mehr in der Lage dazu bist... und das werden die Kinder derjenigen sein, die heute über die Anstrengungen des Elternseins ihre Luft ablassen.
Wenn ich heute einen Berg besteige, wei# ich auch vorher schon, dass das verdammt anstrengend sein wird. Oder wenn ich einen Marathon laufe oder eine Radtour mache oder ein Studium beginne... und es werden auch zwischendurch Rufe laut, wenn es mal zu anstrengend wird...
Und es wird Menschen wie dich geben, die nur die Anstrengung dabei sehen und von vorn herhein die Finger davon lassen werden... und sich selbst um das Glück dabei bringen, welches die Anstrengung auch mit im Gepäck hat.

in reply to jakob 🇦🇹 ✅ • • •Und die "Analogie" mit dem Berg ginge so : Man weiß, das Bestätigen des Berges ist anstrengend, entscheidet sich aber das das zu tun, weil es ein super super Gefühl ist am Gipfel zu stehen und es einem SELBER Zufriedenheit gibt. Allerdings beschwert man sich während der ganzen Tour andauernd bei denen, die im Pool im Tal baden, das alles Scheiße ist und kein Lift da ist.
