I was gonna make a follow-up. It started with: "Copaganda film. But at the 30 minute mark the protagonist cop realizes he's just a tool of the ruling class..."
And seriously, are there no films like this?
NOT a film where the cop realizes there's other bad cops, fights them, but continues being a cop at the end of the movie.
I mean a film where the cop protagonist COMPLETELY STOPS being a cop. I can't recall one off the top of my memory right now...

No one mentioned Mad Max. This makes me heart ache.
Though he didn't exactly realize he was a tool of the ruling class. One could say his madness comes from having no masters even.
Serpico retired 2 years after the Knapp Commission. The movie ends with him heading to testify I think.
He did get ambushed and shot in the face but he survived that shit.
So I think that one might be about as close as you get. Dude didn't even stay in the USA, but that's not in the movie either.
