AbstractThis paper presents implementations that match and, where possible, exceed current quantum factorisation records using a VIC-20 8-bit home computer from 1981, an abacus, and a dog. We hope that this work will inspire future efforts to match any further quantum factorisation records, should they arise.

AMD: By the way there's a hardware bug and the resulting video's dimensions have to be a multiple of 64×16. We've added a partial workaround, but your 1080p videos will be 1082p nevertheless.

hard to think of a good reason. Perhaps it's labelling?
Maybe head office in France thought Canada is fine with the same labels they use there, whereas the US would need uni-lingual English and decided to do that closer to the customer. Still seems wacky though.

I can also confirm, if it's any help to you, that 1082 is not a multiple of 16.

Only when using H.264, a 20 year old codec, can I get exactly one thousand and eighty pixels.

in reply to scy • • •None of this makes any technical sense, TBH. *All* video codecs since MPEG-1 can only encode multiples of 16x16 pixels, so-called "macroblocks"; later standards call them differently and make them even larger, but 16x16 is the bare minimum.
In other words, there is no 1080p video. Never has been. It's always 1088p with the bottom rows ignored by the decoder and filled with junk (typically repetitions of the last line) by the encoder. It's amazing how AMD managed to get this stuff wrong.

They're like "yeah let's produce millions of GPUs and then be Surprised Pikachu when someone in a random GitLab instance notifies us that, oh, we can't do Full HD™"?!
