The end of August usually means two things in San Francisco (three if you count Burning Man): Summer is just beginning, and wildfires are peaking. This week has been mostly clear skies and warmer temperatures, so I went north to photograph the City from across the strait. The photos of the City from today aren't that interesting. However...
The Lime Point Lighthouse sits under the north tower of the Golden Gate Bridge and has been a beacon since 1883. Only the signal building remains after the residences were torn down following automation in 1961.
Sunrise was spectacular due to haze from distant fire. The air over the Bay, though, was crisp and clean. Pelicans were once again obliging the camera.
Couldn't pass up this photo of the Golden Gate Bridge during the blue hour.

Had tea with Abdul, the dad of my youngest's childhood bestie. At 70 he's still working as an interpreter and advisor for Central Asians in Sweden. He knows something like ten languages. I learned that he has an MSc in biology from a university in Kabul. A highly intelligent and cosmopolitan man who has raised a couple of amazing young Swedish ladies, top of their generation in most respects, exactly what this country needs. ❤️

Writing to a deadline while on holidays
In two months, my first self-published novel will be out. Well, at least it will be at the time I write this blog. It's titled Grayson's Magical Mishaps and is part of the Haunted Hearts: Season of the Witch collaboration - eleven Urban Fantasy romances written by gay authors. I usually spend years on a novel but this one needed to be completed in five months.

Well, today was a big day. For Yohan! It was the annual open day for Irish Guide Dogs in Cork. This is where they invite members of the public, puppy raisers, owners of guide dogs and other interested parties to the centre. They give a skills demonstration as part of this event.

Cool video about the people who work with wildlife rescue in Singapore.
When I still lived there I lived in some old forest areas, so I often had to call them to come get the snakes, bats, from my house (which is a pretty different experience from how others experience Singapore)
I know people think of only tall buildings and urban environments when they think of Singapore but I did also grow up sitting at bus stops with pythons in the bush behind the bus stop.
Lots to improve about our management of wildlife and environment but in general I think it’s pretty unique how there is actual a blend of mega city plus rainforest and wildlife if you know where to look

Hey, my #Hawaii folk. What do you think of this mini-documentary by Georg Rockall-Schmidt. I don't know much about this topic but found it fascinating.
Because I've often thought "They grow pineapples in Hawaii, right?" But also knew "All the food is so expensive there because it's imported."
I didn't know Dole destroyed the soil with those pineapple farms. And there is much more.

One obvious question: Why would you waste money to grow mangoes in Hawai'i in a greenhouse when the temperature never approaches 32F on Lana'i ever.
