"The classical end of all pure democracy is the popular tyrant. And incidentally all successful tyrants throughout history have been popular idols."
- Dorothy Thompson, 1938.

Miss Thompson (a.k.a. Mrs. Sinclair Lewis) was the first US correspondent to be expelled from Germany after interviewing Chancellor Hitler. She stated upon arrival in Paris that he "is no longer a man, he is a religion."

Thompson also got thrown out of the German-American Bund's massive NAZI rally at the Madison Square Garden in 1939 for heckling the speakers.

What a woman!

"The history of the German-American Bund reminds us that facism is ultra-nationalist. In other words, there is no such thing as foerign facism. Facism is always home grown."
- Sarah Churchwell, Cultural Historian.

Emily Writes about the sad reality of #Aotearoa #NewZealand losing its courage to stand up for what is right.

That courage, that spirit of justice, is nowhere to be found when it comes to #Israel ’s brutal genocide and ethnic cleansing of #Palestinians.

Our reputation is in tatters, and we can never claim to be a country that stands up for what is right, regardless of what the #US thinks, if we don’t act immediately.

Final Fantasy (1987) for the NES.

The game that kicked off what would become the most iconic JRPG series of all time. A lot of people mistakenly think it was the first JRPG—but it wasn’t. What it was, though, was the one that introduced most Western players to the genre.

The mechanics are straightforward, heavily inspired by Wizardry and Ultima with their obsession over stats and party composition. Yet so many of the things we now consider JRPG archetypes—job classes, elemental magic, overworld exploration—were solidified here.

I never owned Final Fantasy as a kid, but when I finally got my own NES years later, this was one of the first cartridges I hunted down.

I tackled fixing the wiring of the Everything Remote but I also wanted to fix the battery level reporting, which requires adding a voltage divider circuit.
in reply to Jorge

It works!

Unfortunately the wires are too bulky and I couldn't close it up in the case 😭

Might try printing a deeper base
