The second reason why a correction is overdue is the fundamental assumption that huge capital investments are necessary to maintain progress. Billions are being spent on data centres and expensive graphics chips. But in reality, there is no competitive advantage to this, or in the jargon, there’s no “moat” for a business to defend. When Victorian railway companies like the LNER built lines and locomotives at great expense, they could control the trade conducted on them. Later, patents and trade secrets allowed pharmaceutical and software companies to justify huge R&D expenditures, although both had to grapple with piracy. But today every generative AI feature or technique is copied by competitors instantly, within days. Open source models are built specifically to be copied by other people. So a billion dollars of capital expenditure training an AI model suddenly looks like a terrible and stupid waste of capital. Meanwhile the Chinese are focusing on performance, and producing AI models that run well at a hundredth of the expense. We have yet to see this reality reflected in the equity market. Here in the West, we may have backed the wrong kind of AI.

The mayor of Chicago has signed an executive order outlining how the city will attempt to resist Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown.
Brandon Johnson pushed back on Saturday against what he called the “out-of-control” Trump administration’s plan to deploy large numbers of federal officers into the country’s third-largest city, which could take place within days.
The Chicago police department will be barred from helping federal authorities with civil immigration enforcement or any related patrols, traffic stops and checkpoints during the surge, according to the executive order Johnson signed.

Mas um ataque tão próximo a ela aponta para o risco de se manipular extratos, saldos e autorizar operações em nome dos clientes finais dos bancos.
Com tudo isso é hora de dar atenção máxima a esse tema. Operações críticas do sistema financeiro estão sendo realizadas por terceirizadas sem que haja um nível de cibersegurança compatível com a responsabilidade envolvida. No caso da C&M, o alvo foram contas-reserva do Bacen. No caso da Sinqia foi o gateway do Pix.
Isso indica falta de uma normatização mais séria por parte dos reguladores. Por exemplo, por que a infraestrutura do Pix não migrou até hoje para o modelo chamado "zero trust" (zero confiança)? Seria o mínimo a se exigir das "terceirizadas". É absurdo que um único roubo de credenciais possa dar acesso a permissões para realizar volumes dessa magnitude. No modelo "zero trust" as transações são compartimentadas. Se um bandido acessa o sistema, o dano é restrito ao compartimento afetado, sempre com volumes financeiros limitados. A tragédia e a farsa indicam que a arquitetura de segurança financeira no Brasil hoje não serve e precisa ser redesenhada. Que adjetivo qualifica a história quando ela se repete pela terceira vez? Espero não descobrir."
