pressenza.com/it/2025/08/usa-u…

I have mixed feelings about this article. The writer, a longtime New Yorker employee, eventually comes to the right conclusion: that human minds are original and “never say quite what you expect”, whereas AI is unoriginal & often cliched. But I found myself annoyed that this comes from a position of enormous media privilege. Kind of the worst of both worlds. Most bloggers these days have little hope of being part of the cultural conversation, thanks to algorithms and AI. newyorker.com/magazine/2025/09…

Yea I wasn't too happy either, ended up losing 20% of my followers and follows over night. Oh well, onwards and rebuilding and I am glad I just left. Server was photog.social

Nice to see you again bud 💙🙏

I'm so sorry to hear that. I have been kind of worried about that sort of thing with the fediverse, as it really does affect people who create artwork. The collateral damage between inter-instance spats can be a huge setback - and after setbacks on other platforms because of algorithm changes, that's really disheartening.

The image displays a server status check page for the website "aur.archlinux.org." The page is divided into two main sections. On the left, there is a placeholder image with a camera icon and the text "No screenshot available." On the right, there is a detailed status report. The report includes the following information: "Website Name: Aur," "URL Checked: aur.archlinux.org," "Response Time: no response," and "Down For: ~46 mins." The status is prominently displayed in red text as "DOWN," with a message stating "Aur.archlinux.org is DOWN for everyone. It is not just you. The server is not responding..." Below this message, there is a "Report an Issue" button. The overall layout is clean and straightforward, with a blue header and white background.

How does ego use illusion to quell your power?

The headline here is that

(1) the increasingly authoritarian US government demanded that Google suppress videos serving the public interest because those videos are embarrassing to government officials, and

(2) Google readily over-complied with that request, deleting not just the videos but the entire channel.

“maybe he should just use Linux”

Spelling out the point of the snark there: the the post is not about what platform he’s using; it’s about the behavior of the US government and Google.

in reply to Paul Cantrell

Sorry at this point I thought the behaviour of the US regime was taken as read and it's solutions that are required...

I mean…we should not be surprised, but we should still be outraged. It’s important not to skip that crucial step; assuming outrage and immediately moving past it is how complacency and acceptance set in.

And yes, there are ample alternate hosting options for the Streisand Effect to kick in. But we have to be sure to give Google and the Trump admin that black eye, every time.

in reply to Paul Cantrell

Genuine question from my pragmatic autistic point of view: and how that will change anything to give them the black eye?

Saying that, I’m going to look online for a way to contact the author of the video and to mention him the existence of Peertube that he has probably no idea about.

@adelinej
“Give them the black eye” means “discuss this with in our various social circles and express outrage so as to damage their reputation and keep attention on it.” It is easy to underestimate just how real and how impactful that kind of social shift can be.

Once again, Copyright acts as a force of censorship for those in power. This time of censoring information about pubic health.

Can newsrooms become social platforms themselves? Should they?

The future belongs to organizations that understand their communities, not just their analytics. In this post, I dig into a reader question that speaks to the future of social, newsrooms, and AI.

This is a great post on the good news, bad news dynamic of the AI boom.

The good news is demand is exploding. Nvidia can’t make GPUs fast enough nor can Microsoft & Google bring data centers online fast enough to meet demand.

The bad news is demand is exploding. New features like Deep Research or Agehts use 10x - 100x the resources of vanilla chatbot queries from a year ago. AI companies simply can’t raise prices high enough to match usage. $200/month it isn’t enough.

Ok, oggi ho iniziato a settare #orgmode in #emacs .

in reply to Alessio Vanni
