My PCjr forum is basically getting DDoS'ed by IP addresses that point back to Tencent. It looks like AI bots scraping everything.
I got tired of playing whack-a-mole and I restricted access to the site for anonymous users. The instructions for joining now have a blurb about the Tiananmen Square massacre just in the case the great firewall can help me. And I'm aggressively blocking large subnets.
Does anybody have good tools for blocking by ASN ?

@motoridersd That's basically what I've done so far. I used the tools ag bgp.he.net to get a list of IPv4 prefixes for the offending ASN, ran it through some filters, and generated iptables block commands from it.
The list is thousands of entries long so I simplified it by converting everything to /16s, which is blocking too much but at this point I'm tired of the whack-a-mole and I don't care.

On today's episode of #forgeposting with an actual bus, I made a punch so I can make holes of a variety of widths.
I had previously been using a cold chisel which was too small, I couldn't fully wrap my hand around it and even just pinching it had my hand too close to the hot metal which was no fun.
I had a big bolt from a truck that someone gave me, ideally I'd get something like an old drill bit which'd resist losing its temper from being driven in hot metal but oh well, it works.

We don’t do this not because it wouldn’t be wildly profitable, but because it represents a non-local maxima that the hill climbing algorithm of the free market cannot reach because it requires accepting reduced profitability in the short-term.
And of course the people whom current degrees of profit benefit most would not necessarily benefit from it the most—though they would absolutely benefit from it too, especially given a certain rising sentiment.

In the end, we have to solve all of these problems at once as an integrated whole:
- Housing
- Food
- Medical care
- Education
- Transportation
- Clothing
- Communications
- Energy
I think doing so will be possible if we start by renegotiating the relationship between society and economy.
