I give Italian antifascist forces a lot of props for actually executing Mussolini. In contrast, Hitler had to shoot himself.

in reply to Emeritus Prof Christopher May • • •Suspect that the dominant argument across Western governments currently is to exploit fossil fuel reserves to the maximum to avoid losing out on profits to any ban on fossil fuel extraction in the future.
This is often combined with a belief that fossil fuels cannot be replaced at this time because it would leave the West unable to compete with adversarial nations and affect national security.

At some point this arrangement will have to be broken, but I'm at a loss to understand how we get from here to there.
