Maybe we should stop making plastic instead of disposing plastic in the metabolic food chain?
In general, it has been possible to break plastics down into the organics they came from for a long time. This is just a novel and potentially high efficiency method. The problem isn't a lack of ability to do these things. The problem is the economic system which does not incentivize proper handling of waste and does incentivize producing enormous amounts of waste for no reason other than marketing. It would sicken you to know how much plastic is used in packaging just to make products look more appealing on shelves. It is literally most of the plastic produced.
The packaging glut and wanton expansion of fossil fuels is killing our planet. Organic chemistry and oil and tar is a fact of nature. Capitalism is a fact of systematized greed and a calloused disregard for life.

How Hindu nationalists hunt down Christians for forced conversions in India | DW News
Violence against Christians has been on the rise in India ever since the Hindu nationalist party, the BJP, came to power in 2014. That's according to the rights group United Christian Forum. It says there were more than 800 attacks on Christians last year - a nearly sevenfold increase in a decade. Among the victims are members of India's Adivasi community, many of whom converted to Christianity decades ago.
Much of the violence is concentrated in India’s Bastar region of Chhattisgarh state. DW Correspondent Adil Bhat traveled there to document the religious tensions, and witnessed efforts by right-wing nationalists to push conversions to Hinduism.

Della possibilità di annettere formalmente parti della Cisgiordania si parlava da qualche giorno — i ministri della destra più estrema del governo vorrebbero che il processo di annessione fosse almeno avviato prima dell’Assemblea generale delle Nazioni Unite, la cui sessione durerà dal 9 al 29 settembre. Axios ne ha parlato con tre funzionari israeliani, statunitensi e comunitari, che hanno confermato che la conversazione nel governo Netanyahu è seria.
