You are correct. There’s a reason I went down the path I did. It’s complicated.
In short, I didn’t want the tool to be overly complicated. I figure that most people who would use it, know about the 14/18 font size variable. Also, I’m hoping for a future with APCA standards instead of WCAG.
That said, I’m still considering adding a toggle for that variable. It sounds like you would find that helpful?

I have considered some potential updates with variables for both WCAG and APCA to account for font size/weight variables. I’m just not sure I want to overcomplicate this.
Even if you visit a WCAG contrast checker website, they don’t show numbers for the 14/18-point breaks. They just note it. So I thought about adding it.
For the APCA declarations I’m using their contrast legend:
