I wanted to post this yesterday, but my instance was having issues the entire day. Apologies if this is a repost.
Shi allegedly sent a message to Oppo saying that he was working to “collect as much information as possible” before starting his job. And he searched the internet for terms like “how to wipe out macbook” and “Can somebody see if I’ve opened a file on a shared drive?” from his Apple-issued MacBook before leaving the company.
For someone who is presumably pretty intelligent, this is pretty dumb.

I politely disagree. Apple legal will most certainly make extreme accusations and throw the book at individuals as a deterrent to other staff who may be considering bringing “trade secret” knowledge with them as they leave. Which is basically turns any kind of creative solution to a tech problem into a “trade secret” 🍆in this reality of patents and intellectual property.
I suspect that this person thought they were getting away with something minor and it’s being spun into mustache-twirling supervillains as a warning to staff.

Sanctioning individual businesses, esp. banks, will have zero impact if it's in the regime's interests to bypass such sanctions.
The CCP can either carousel countless existing banks to take over the sanction-busting operation, or they can just spin up a new token address every week for channelling the money. Ultimately they can, and already probably do, just barter goods over the shared border in Siberia like in the good old days of communism.
The only thing that *might* deter the CCP from aiding russia (and all the other despots globally) is if the sanctions cover the entire party-state and threaten its ability to maintain the dictatorship.
And the only effective way of achieving *that* would be a near-DPRK (North Korea) level *embargo* imposed by *all democracies globally*.
With the USA-turned-Murica now being consumed from within by the pro-despot MAGA & Network State clique along with previously pro-democratic nations like India, Brazil and South-Africa now allied with the despot-operated and anti-liberal democratic BRICS and SCO organizations, what is left of the global democratic camp?
We should have circled the democratic wagons back in 1990 when we had all the momentum and leverage.

≈1998, someone serendipitously gave my landline as a fake number¹ to escape a bad interaction.The guy was convinced his target was my roommate & called every few days for a month — even though I told him that it wasn't the right number.
Eventually he argued:“C'mon, man,you know I'm just trying to do my thing!”
I quipped:“so, your thing is…harassment?”
