The funerary monument of Laura Vigo, located in the Monumental Cemetery of Staglieno in Genoa, Italy 🇮🇹

In memory of Laura Vigo who died at the age of nine, the monument by the sculptor Pietro Canonica was completed in 1908.

The monument depicts a babygirl leaning on the circle and seems to hear the words whispered by the three angels outlined in the background in the bas-relief.

The verses in the plaque are taken from a poem by Giosuè Carducci “Funere mersit acrerbo”. Monumental Cemetery of Torino.

The base of the monument often has offerings left by visitors, such as toys and flowers, as seen in the image.

How to stop a dictator while there's still time:

"We have the capacity to shut the system down."

The problem is more that the 50-year plutocratic project to debilitate the labour movement has worked. Labour had hitherto always led the resistance.

Agreed, great point.

Unexpected Critics of Trump’s Attacks on Wind Energy: Oil Executives

Business leaders and trade organizations have been especially worried by attempts to stop work on wind farms that had already secured federal approval.

What they're afraid of is the broad realization that climate stabilization requires leaving deposits they've already started extracting in the ground. Shutting down already-in-progress projects is something which makes that politically easier going forward.

tonight while half-asleep I thought of a possible set of rules for a card game using the cards in use in a #conworld

I've just realized that the potential maximum score is 20724, and that the game involves counting points at the end to see whether the game¹ has been won.

To be fair, in context card games are usually played mostly by school-age children and are supposed to be at a somewhat useful learning exercise.

But maybe it's a bit too much?

¹ it is a cooperative game, in that place and time they don't do competition if they can avoid it

I'm thinking about prototyping a quick-and-easy #solarpunk #TTRPG based on #forTheQueen game.

Little setting, no characters, just a lot of story prompts on cards the players draw one after another to tell a tale together.

Some topics I'm exploring so far:

- A rescue effort after an environmental disaster, telling the story of the community being saved

- Climate refugees moving into a new, wooden sustainable social housing

For context: alxd.org/notes-towards-a-solar…

in reply to Avner

@Avner I did! I'm just thinking about something much more... positive, without the threat of an unknown danger coming. I want a story of a restoration and regeneration 😀
in reply to alxd of the Story Seed Library

yeah. That vibe has been one of the biggest issues I've run into when trying to get my friends to play that game with me, tbh. I do think you can tell stories of restoration and regeneration in The Quiet Year, but that isn't the default frame.

Netanyahu came to power "on a mandate to stop the Oslo process in its tracks... He repeatedly reneged on commitments."

"In this period of supposed peace-making, Israel colonised Palestinian land at the fastest rate ever."

A pretty cool thing about the Fediverse:

It will still be around in a decade. Even two decades.

Usenet still exists. IRC still exists. Email still exists. When you build platforms on open protocols and standards, it doesn't actually matter what corporations try and do to enshittify it. So long as there are people who are still willing to run instances, and users who still want to talk to one another without going through some corporation's platform, it'll still be here.

Sneak preview of something being submitted for peer-review soon for you

Did you know there are two methods currently used to measure "poll error"?

They exist in a sort of unspoken truce. To date, no one knows (or cares) about the fact that they cannot, logically, both be correct. See below.

For a poll that says 40-25, compared to a result of 57.5-42.5, the Spread Method (used in US) would claim ZERO error

But the Proportional Method would claim a massive FOUR POINT ERROR

Which is correct?
