We went to buy our #Halloween pumpkins (early) at a local church we support. They buy exclusively from a Navajo tribe in NV, and the local church does a lot of nice things for young mothers.
They had their usual assortment of cool #pumpkins in addition to what they call "alien gourds, " which were even cooler than last year.
I've been seeing a lot of gaming chatter about how expensive new games and systems are, and the desire to revisit older games. I'm on board. It's been fun getting my old games to work on new devices.
Keep your old games, archive them, and tinker with them. There's never been a better time.
GOG allowing to buy and download the files for retro games, to keep playing them forever, is such a wonderful platform. Last year, I spent about $50 for like 6 older games, and I'll get about 1000 hours of fun offline gaming from that.

Der Gedanke, dass Deutschland militärische Großmacht werden will, erfüllt mich schon deshalb in große Sorgen, weil die Merz-Regierung mit ihrer desaströsen Politik ständig die faschistische AfD stärkt, anstatt sie zu bekämpfen. Michel Friedman ist deshalb zutiefst besorgt, dass Deutschland in 10 Jahren wieder zur faschistischen Diktatur werden könnte. Ich teile seine Sorgen.

Hey #electronics hive mind, can I have your help please? We have a set of LED fairy lights with a little control module that has 8 modes, and we only use the 8th one, "constantly on". We'd like to fix it so it always comes on fixed in constant mode. Don't care about the other modes at all. I can see there are two channels - powering alternate LEDs on the rope, which are switched by two transistors, controlled by a chip under a resin blob. I tried bridging the bases of the transistors, but that just made the LEDs flicker. So I'm wondering if it's safe to just bypass them entirely by bridging the emitter and collector? As far as I can tell, the LEDs are being driven by raw 240v DC, coming straight out of a bridge rectifier from the mains. As the LEDs are in series, the village drop compounds, hence the high voltage. My reasoning is that if I bridge the transistors, the power will just go straight to both channels... But my understanding is pretty basic... If it helps here are two pics of both sides of the board. Yes, I know it's janky - I have plans to at least anchor the wires, but not until I've fixed this issue. (Sorry forgot to add images, done now)

i popped into the occult bookstore that opened up recently in my neighborhood and it was cute and it was fun to look around, but i'm a little disappointed by the in retrospect obvious irony of their selection mostly being fairly accessible if dubious self help books and not so much weird reference books on obscure topics. i got a cool looking iron key though

Oh last winter I ran into a street seller, second hand books. An improvised bookshop that appeared out of nowhere. I started checking out what he has, mostly classics with fading covers, decades old. After taking a good look at me he reached deep into a cardboard box and took out a book I had never heard of before. "I think you will like it" he said solemnly, so I bought it and took it home, forgetting all about it until around May. I opened it and it was the crapiest novel I ever read.
