there are two remarkable things here:
1. In the article the sale of private data to feed you advertising is made while the page is full of examples of that type of advertising. Ironic isn’t it?
2. @timbl states that we need big institutions funded by countries to research AI. I see this is already happening in the EU, but the people that lead these institutions are building what they call “AI factories” that are being built using “the most dominant technology” (read Nvidia) with models that are not open and under control of the same big tech companies that corrupted social media.
In my opinion AI should be developed on fully open source platforms (both hardware and software under GPLv3 or EUPL licensing).
And perhaps we should focus on fixing social networks and open federated communication first, before we try to make large learning models and generative AI work.
Let's unpack this link bit. Those links contain DNS name of a host, that via naming system, DNS here, gives way to actually find that distant host, and connect to it, to actually perform action that user wants.
Any client can connect to servers that ... "don't like other and don't cooperate".
