in reply to Ross of Ottawa • • •I chose insulated mug but really it varies – I've got a different mug for green or white tea, black tea, and coffee, and regularly use all 3 in a day. As you do.
Green or white: a nice double walled glass mug, with a strainer. Stays warm for ages.
Black tea: a 'normal' mug. Most likely to get a bit cold before I finish it, but that's alright.
Coffee: a slightly fancy smaller mug. Drink it before it gets cold.

The mug has a heat absorbing layer in addition to the vacuum insulation layer.
The heat is pulled into the absorption layer which cools my coffee and makes it ready to drink.
But over time the heat has no place to go but back into the coffee, which stays at a consistent temperature.

in reply to Ross of Ottawa • • •I'm in the "cooling is a feature" camp. I prefer room temperature coffee and tea (and water, for that matter…any beverage, really). However, I don't care for cold brew coffee, and tea brewed at too-low a water temperature is kind of a waste.
However, I don't bring just a cup to my desk: I typically bring a french press or a small cast iron teapot to my desk, where it remains for half a day (or longer) as I slowly work through it. The mug is typically empty: I put in a sip or two when I want a sip or two, and then it's empty again.

Yes a key point in there, tea brewed at too low a temperature really doesn't work, even if you ultimately drink it luke-warm or cold.

As loose leaves, they are little rolled balls and brew up super dark and strong. When Was surprised when I first tried it. Have since adjusted to use a little less. Quite a treat.
