In una lettera ai propri fan gli AVETT BROTHERS hanno annunciato lo scorso agosto che “Magpie And The Dandelion” è stato concepito durante le registrazioni del penultimo album “The Carpenter”, uscito nel 2012. “Mentre stavamo lavorando a 'The Carpenter', eravamo così ispirati che abbiamo scritto canzoni per un intero altro album” ha dichiarato la band. “Durante quelle session, e lavorando nuovamente con Rick Rubin, ci siamo trovati in un’atmosfera speciale, come se tutti fossimo veramente in perfetta sintonia”.
