#MakersHour A2: I'm going to a local queer art night tomorrow, so I kinda had to think of a costume.
I'm going to wear a suit and a fedora and be, depending on who asks, "the detective investigating the Louvre heist," "just this guy, you know?", or "myself, it's the scariest thing to be."
My wife wanted to greet KPop Demon Hunters trick-or-treaters as a fan, and so she asked me to make the light sticks for them. They don't light up yet - that's a project for tonight.
remember when I said I was busy? Well, that's because of the 'ween. I'm still DESIGNING the parts to print for the magnetic stirrers for tomorrow! Spent an hour fighting with one of my printers when I tried to swap in the .4 nozzle, ended up going back to the .2 and just used the other printer (but it slows me down). Right now the outer shell of the stirrer is printing, the mechanism of one is printed and assembled, the body base (holding all the parts) is actually being designed right now, and the lid is planned.
So please excuse spotty attendance, particularly as food is about to arrive! #makersHour
#MakersHour A2: I used to make a lot of costumes, then facilitated the making of costumes (ie. Bought the materials). Still occasionally wear a vampire cape we made in high school and an elf tunic and cape from grad school. A few years ago I helped transform a whole cast into zombies for a charity haunted woods. And once we put on a whole haunted tea party scene from Alice in Wonderland with horrorfied characters. That was very fun.
The kids had a wonderful time. The whole set was amazing with giant mushrooms and a giant wonky teapot (the Doormouse fit inside) a big painted backdrop and spooky lights. The whole get up started as set for an actual production of A in W, then was used as props for a themed school dance, they we reused it all for the Halloween Haunted Woods. That was very efficient year!
I must credit my partner Jane for insisting we keep all the props and finding a place to store them. It was just serendipity that all the events lent themselves to an Alice Theme.
We used to partake regularly. We put a large tent on the front lawn, filled it with a lid of Halloween bits and pieces. We then did a guided tour with a child going a nice jump scare at the end. Then they get their sweets, possibly a drink. Rule was, put up at 1pm, finish by 5pm take down at 8:30pm. Two years ago, weather was bad, so did it all in the lounge instead. I had planned to do a full size operation game, but we decided before last year to stop for a bit.
A2 #makershour well call me mean but I've never let my kids trick or treat. In part because it wasn't really a big tradition in the UK when i was little and the threat of a trick just sounds like demanding sweets with menaces. However we did "celebrate" and I do have pumpkins and a skeleton and expectations of a swarm of nylon clad witches, mummies and who knows what. I like that the kids here wish a happy Halloween. I've been crocheting and carving pumpkins, making more calaveras and I've even put Boney up outside... I hope that the wind doesn't spook him! He's wrapped up though.
no but i had a pagan friend do the kids would celebrate the season and if we had kids knocking on mine enjoyed seeing other people's costumes. Mine would dress as pumpkin faeries or tree elfs
No, Halloween is not really a thing here in the Netherlands (de de dispite the best efforts of many stores wanting to sell plastic tat). I am going to the uk tomorrow though, so who knows! (I'll be hiking in the district, so probably not)

#MakersHour
I don't really, although I used to help Ratvaark and his friends celebrate, which was fun.

A2: I do not partake. As with all cultural events, I stay well clear.
I’m on enforced annual leave (again) this week, so I’ve been working on my railway block bell, which is now nearly finished!
