Thanks to @pluralistic, I guess I now better understand the frontal assault of #FreeOurFeeds on #bluesky. They're forcing the issue on the relay centralization. Either bs interoperates with them, or their refusal to do so and ability to replicate their whole network helps people to switch relays. It's like a hostile takeover. I don't understand the long term plan but if I'm understanding this correctly, I kinda like it. even though it seems like a fuck ton of money.

Aha, a stalking horse strategy. Well, that's some heady four dimensional chess. Seems like it would be simpler to just get serious about supporting the Fediverse, but greater minds and all that.

@mastodonmigration
yea it's only Cory that makes me think it has to be something smarter and more interesting than it appeared on first glance. perhaps the strategy will only take a tiny percentage of what they raise and the rest can be spent somehow moving people to fedi in a way BS users don't think is too hard, confusing etc.

yeah the amount of money they're asking for seems astronomical considering even the kind of funding Bluesky itself has received... could go a long way if used to improve the fediverse instead.
