Concerning LiMux - and take this as anecdotal hearsay stories - but, to my knowledge, the reason it failed was a combination of lobbying by Microsoft, Conservatives (CSU) winning the local elections, and costs (as well as employee complaints) from having processes be more complicated, the latter mostly thanks to Microsoft’s outright obstructionism concerning document format standards, as well as expertise being relatively costly (whereas finding MS-certified anyones in the office space was relatively easy). Those are considerations to have, but I think more and more, the advantages of Linux and Open Source clearly outweigh that stuff in the face of rising costs and enshittification.

Yeah and I recently heard / read (can't remember where +__+) that they apparently still using a lot of FOSS software stemming from that time.

LiMux was just lobbying. By "pure chance" Microsoft put their headquarters in Munich.

Let's just hope that the EU members don't just revert to the MAGA stack once the orangutan is out of office because "the scare is over".

That's good news. Hopefully it'll spread beyond the military police.

open-source, slowly but surely, wins in the end! It's not an opinion: it's a fact. The only problem is, the normies are too scared to experiment with anything related to computers. We have been too comfortable with being convenient, that we dont take risks for the greater good. It's time people realised this and start taking back the power which was taken away from them... :blobcatstrong:

Euro countries avoiding dependence on U.S. software and companies. I think it's probably going to work because they really want it to.

I'm really happy that the EU is moving further and further away from the US, they have ALWAYS been an unreliable and aggressive partner. My hope is that after the current administration over there ends they won't forget that the problem was never Trump, it's the unfathomable grip of the United States on all the world. Haven't watched you in a while, good to see you're still at it.

Nice video, but should have mentioned one if not the most important reason was Microsoft's lobbying that prevented transitioning to open source softwares.
