Pete Hegseth said this. Out loud. And then put a transcript of what he said up on a site called war.gov

Traditional allies who care about long-standing internationally agreed upon rules of engagement are deemed to be wringing their hands and clutching their pearls

This is as clear a declaration of, "We are committed to committing war crimes and will continue to war crime and just try and stop us!" as I have ever heard

And I was alive during the Bush years

The other loud and clear message is that the US can no longer be trusted to engage in good faith negotiation or diplomacy. We apparently now reserve the right to attack anyone, at any time.

The rest of the world already knows the U.S. can't be trusted. It’s the majority of Americans (not anyone engaged enough to be on the fediverse, of course) who are only just now starting to learn that the world views the U.S. this way.

“The officer then said that even a swift return of America to its former role won’t matter.

Because “we will never fucking trust you again.”

The Americans at the table seemed somewhat startled by the heat of that pronouncement. I agreed with it entirely. So, it seemed to me, did most of the non-Americans.

… it was still being talked about the next day. “Thank God,” one allied official said to me. “Someone had to tell them.””

"We set the terms of this war, from start to finish."
Whiskey Pete, fucking loon

My question is; every one of these orders is illegal, Congress did not declare war on Iran so bombing them is following illegal orders. Is our entire military compromised at this point?

Very much hope so to. Thank you for sharing your perspective from a vantage that has some experience with this.
