Oh no :blobsad:

It's a big shame to see it go, but thank you so much for running it! 👏

It's been such a fixture of the Fediverse, you've done an excellent job. Hopefully the bot owners are able to find instances that are as good as yours!

Massive kudos for keeping it going for so long, and for closing it down gracefully with a warning period for account transfers etc.

thank you for your time and energy and the wonderful space we got to play in!! ❣️

do you or anyone else have any recommendations for where a bot could live after this?

in reply to katherine

@kayserifserif thank you! I don't know of another bot-specific instance offhand. If people have suggestions I'm happy to boost that
in reply to colin mitchell

@kayserifserif The only one that I know about that seems currently active is mastodon.bot.

I am also wondering if I should move my bots to my own server, or create a separate one, and potentially share with others.

Lots to consider!

@stefan Maybe bots can try to find a home near their followers, by using data.stefanbohacek.dev/project… ?

@stefan A feature I've always wished is sorting the top instances by normalised count/concentration. So for example eupolicy.social would be first for me because it's 2 % of my contacts but my contacts are 4 % of their total accounts. (This could help bots find their language communities etc.)

@nemobis Interesting idea!

Do note that you can download the raw data, if that helps in the meantime!

in reply to Stefan Bohacek

@stefan @kayserifserif There should be a way to create simple single-bot instances that avoid all the mastodon software stack complexity.
in reply to colin mitchell

thank you (and kinda hoping @Gargron and friends can look at the Mastodon performance degradation as that’s interesting data).

@GossiTheDog We will need more details about this, please open a GitHub issue and we will have a look. But we have not seen anything like that on our side, so I am really curious about what is happening here.

@renchap Would be interesting! Not sure whether muffinista has the energy for this now. muffinlabs.com/posts/2022/09/1… mentions that the conversations and status tables are especially massive, and I imagine the social graph too given the number of followers. Maybe the new version's follow recommendations are expensive in such a situation? Does the notification grouping query the DB to decide those groups?

in reply to Nemo_bis 🌈

@nemobis I doubt that follow notifications or notification grouping are an issue here if there are not a lot of real users using the web UI. I can not guess what the cause may be without more informations, hence the need for a GitHub issue and more data.

@paul @kayserifserif That's the one being shut down, if you look at the original post.

Unless you meant to share a different link?

No, I didn't mean that. Sorry, I just found out about the shutdown notice there. I removed my post.
