Probably the most telling video is Homeland Security, where they mock BlueSky’s CEO in a video and then go on about the world being amazing after brown people are deported.
in reply to Kevin Beaumont

interestingly the entire bluesky community is like "don't reply to this, don't screenshot it, block it all and pretend it's not there." Here on Mastodon is the first hint I've received of what the accounts are doing

@mcc
Ah, yes, the "ignore the bully and they'll go away" approach...

in reply to xinit β˜•

@xinit you can oppose someone's political program without doing it by arguing with the troll internet account they made specifically to troll you

or, put a different way:

there is no reason to fight your enemy on the terms they chose

in reply to mcc

@mcc
100%. I wasn't intending on disagreeing with your post, as I agree that you definitely can't meet these trolls under their bridge on their rules. I definitely agree that don't engage is the best policy.

I HAVE muted / blocked after replying, but the reply isn't aimed at the troll, but at spectators.

@GossiTheDog

in reply to mcc

Very well said.

Yeah, they are goading us to respond to them. That’s what they want (their terms).

"there is no reason to fight your enemy on the terms they chose"

This is wisdom.

@xinit @mcc Historically proven!

That said, blocking these accounts is the right call. I just wish bsky liberals would like. Go outside and do something about them IRL, too.

in reply to xinit β˜•

@xinit @mcc To be fair, that approach usually works... Until said bully inevitably gets bored and starts punching you in the face. πŸ€•
in reply to Arazil

@arazil @xinit @mcc
TBH the approach works well there cos when you block someone they no longer see your posts either, so the "quote dunking" that happened on Xitter a lot to drive shitty behaviour, even after you'd blocked someone, is not a thing there.

I prefer being here in the Fediverse, but trolls really do have a hard time engaging at Bsky - part of the reason right-wingers claim it's "dead" is because they're quickly blocked and wind up essentially shouting into the void.

in reply to Ian Malcolm

@imalcolm @arazil @xinit @mcc this was my favorite part of Bluesky - the block 'em and let 'em starve on the vine attitude. They'd come in all "Ha-ha cuckliberalsnowflake" and our measured response was silence. They wanted a fight, they got an empty feed. We were too busy sharing sexy Alf picks to give a fuck. It was a shit posting haven.

Then the Twitter exiles started showing up in droves and the just block attitude fell apart.

Not that it was a sustainable solution anyway, but it was nice while it lasted.

in reply to mcc

@mcc Or simply go to bluesky and create one or more accounts just to block these "government" accounts. πŸ˜‚
@mcc
in reply to mcc

@mcc And yet those accounts have thousands of followers, hundreds of likes on each post.

Looks like it's a lot of bot activity and recent accounts w/o bios and posts though.

@mcc

That is very rich. As DeepSeek revealed, China is a lot smarter about its use of surveillance AI and AI development in general. Thanks to the seething contempt of government or of the consent of the governed by the superrich they have guaranteed China will be first on the moon and will be the first in technology.

Destroying science is a great way of cementing technology leadership everywhere, but in the United States.
