Millions of Americans have no retirement savings (20-50% of all U.S. adults, depending on the survey). Consequently, they will never be able to truly retire, or will be dependent on friends and family and/or die in poverty. Social security, if it even survives the Trump butcher block, is generally not enough to live on without additional savings or investments.
