#Palestine / Israel expands censorship enforcement against missile strike documentation

The “unauthorized” footage of the Iranian ballistic missile strike on Bazan factories in #Haifa - which killed three workers - prompted the crackdown. The new order enables the prosecution of citizens and media for sharing unauthorized footage of missile impacts, drone strikes, and military installations. Violators face prosecution for “severe harm to state security” with authorities vowing swift action against those “assisting enemies.“

Presumably, these types of photos, which make it evident to the Israelis that the non-existent victory over a non-existent axis of evil and a non-existent nuclear threat was at their expense and completely disregarded their safety.

@rjohnston 100% trolling

It's part of series of similarly-styled videos schematically showing increasingly implausible war machines hidden in or under civilian structures: F35s in an apartment complex, long range missiles inside an office block, etc. Culminates with an entire aircraft carrier hidden beneath a large government-looking building.

Quoting #Netanyahu:

[…] "There are people who were killed, families who grieved loved ones, I really appreciate that," Netanyahu said. He added that the war's consequences also affected his family. "For the second time, my son Avner had to cancel his wedding due to the threat of missile launches, certainly a heavy personal price paid by him, his fiancée and our family."

#Haaretz English edition archive.is/bGcRU

On a scale from sociopathic to an idiot, where would you rank #Netanyahu’s touching display of empathy—comparing his son’s canceled wedding to mass casualties second time around on his watch, and his fault in both cases? Let’s use comparable world leaders for scale: #Putin’s cold indifference to #Trump’s pathological self-absorption…

I can only list four options, it seems. I would have added Narendra Modi, Xi Jinping, Recep Erdogan, Mohammed bin Salman, and Aleksandr Lukashenko.

Spot the irony: Israel's Trolling Minister Katz accuses Iran's Khamenei of committing war crimes by "firing at hospitals and residential buildings in Israel," while simultaneously announcing plans to intensify attacks on the civilian population in Iran, all while Israel is has been and is still conducting extensive airstrikes on hospitals throughout occupied #Gaza Strip, systematically destroying medical infrastructure and killing patients, medical staff, and civilians sheltering in these facilities.

@JimJoe there's no doubt that's strategic, though I guess that the response in Gaza was opportunistic. There are many voices inside Netanyahu's court, with different interests. Regardless, none of this would have been possible if Israel couldn't count on an equally corrupt regime in the US, and a cowardly, cynical and racist #EU leadership.

The number of seriously injured in Holon has risen to 4; two buildings were hit in the city, extensive damage caused to additional buildings

The number of seriously injured in Holon has risen to four. Two buildings were hit in the city, and extensive damage was caused to additional buildings. Deputy Commander of the Dan District Fire and Rescue Services, Boaz Rakia, said that fires broke out at two impact sites in the center, and that firefighting forces have brought them under control. According to him, at this stage there is no indication of missing persons.

Reminder: Israel's strikes on Iran serve as a distraction from its ongoing genocide in Gaza, while simultaneously leaving Israel's home front vulnerable. This explains the government's efforts to suppress the circulation of such information.

#Ynet’s homepage is regularly adorned with gleeful chauvinism, racism and Islamophobia. Yesterday they celebrated #Iran’s diminished capabilities as a result of the “exceptional” work of the Israeli Air Force. However, today’s news headlines shift back to the price payed by Israel’s home front.

Headline: 129 injured in heavy barrage: 89 in Gush Dan, 40 in Be’er Sheva

Magen David Adom updated that 129 people were injured as a result of this morning’s heavy barrage from Iran: 89 in Gush Dan, where there were direct hits in #Holon and Ramat Gan, and 40 in Be’er Sheva - where #Soroka Hospital was hit.

Of the 89 injured in Gush Dan, three were seriously injured, two moderately injured, 40 lightly injured from shrapnel and blast waves, 31 were injured on their way to protected areas, and 13 are defined as anxiety casualties. They were evacuated to Sheba Tel Hashomer, Schneider, Beilinson, Ichilov, Assaf Harofeh, Wolfson, Meir, Ma’ayanei Hayeshua, Assuta Ashdod, and Barzilai hospitals.

All those injured in Be’er Sheva are in light condition.

When Israelis are killed or injured, there are detailed news reports describing the human impact - the destroyed homes, the search for survivors, the families desperately looking for loved ones, the personal stories that make the tragedy real and relatable. The media coverage allows for mourning, memorialization, and public empathy.

Meanwhile, Palestinian casualties are often reduced to sterile numbers in news reports, if they're reported at all. The destruction of entire neighborhoods in Gaza, the families wiped out, the children killed - these stories rarely receive the same detailed, humanizing coverage that would allow readers to grasp the full scope of the tragedy or for Palestinians to have their grief recognized and witnessed by the world.

From a Haaretz report on the direct hit on an apartment building in Bat Yam:

[...] Just minutes after the impact, the building's facade spilled into the street – melted and burning, like after a volcanic eruption. In front of the facade stood charred cars that were crushed by the blast. Dust, smoke, water flowing everywhere, shattered glass and lost people made it clear that Jerusalem Street had suddenly become a disaster zone. "They found his phone with blood on it," one of the street residents told Haaretz as he tried to locate his friend. "I don't know where he is, I believe he was killed." Others stood before Home Front Command personnel who were maintaining handwritten lists of names, telling them who lived where, who was home and who wasn't. Hundreds of soldiers were deployed at the building site, searching for survivors.

Note that while Israelis get to read about what falling victim to something like this when it happens to them, Palestinians don't even get to grieve.

[follow up] Israel expands military censorship to foreign media and social networks with new emergency order

Israeli Chief Military Censor issued an emergency order requiring all media outlets - Israeli and foreign - plus social media operators to seek prior approval before publishing missile impact locations. The order targets coverage of Iranian strikes and extends censorship rules to international networks and social platforms.

Police have already shut down broadcasts by #AP and #Reuters, claiming their footage was used by Al Jazeera. Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi said the order resulted from collaboration with National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir to "close holes" in coverage by foreign networks.

Legal experts question the order's enforceability, particularly for social media users and foreign outlets. Israel's military censorship reached record levels in 2024, with over 8,000 articles banned or partially censored - more than double previous peaks.

The Government Press Office initially issued a misleading statement suggesting much broader censorship powers than the order actually contains, later calling this an error.

[follow up] Tel Aviv police-affiliated civilian militia (aka "rapid security response"unit) which looks more and more like a budding "Revolutionary Guard", separates foreign and Israeli journalists at incident scene

A Tel Aviv rapid security response unit led by "the Shadow" (Yoav Eliasi) separated foreign journalists from Israeli ones at an incident site, detaining the foreign reporters while allowing Israelis to pass.

Press photographer Mustafa al-Haruf from #Anadolu Agency reported a voulenteer saying "Israeli – you pass, whoever is not Israeli stays." Arab photographers were specifically targeted for ID checks.

A district spokesperson immediately released the detained journalists upon arrival.

The Journalists' Organization contacted police, who subsequently instructed security response units not to identify journalists at incident sites.

Why is Microsoft being targeted by Iran?

Iran's Revolutionary Guards claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that #Microsoft's offices in Be'er Sheva were deliberately targeted due to their "close collaboration with the Israeli military."

In #Gaza, Microsoft's #AI services are reportedly being used by the Israeli military in the creation of the infamous crude "kill lists".

Despite official denials, usage of Microsoft's AI has reportedly increased significantly, coinciding with intensified military operations and a rising civilian death toll.

The International Court of Justice's ongoing investigation into potential genocide has brought increased scrutiny to technology companies involved in Israel's military operations in Gaza.

[cont'd] Iran fires 23 missiles at Israel, 30 injured in Haifa direct hit

While Israeli media is reporting how successful Israel's air forces were at neutralizing launch sites, launch operators, and scientists, #Iran launched 23 missiles targeting areas across #Israel from north to south.

A direct hit in #Haifa injured 30 people, including a 16-year-old critically wounded by shrapnel and two others moderately injured. The strike damaged high-rise buildings, offices, and shops after hitting a parking garage.

In southern areas, interceptor debris caused significant damage to two houses but no casualties. Officials noted most injuries occurred among people not in protected spaces during alerts.

[development] IDF Chief hints at extending the war: “Readiness for a sustained campaign is required”

Lieutenant General Zamir said at the end of a week of attacks on Iran: “We have embarked on the most complex campaign in our history. We embarked on this campaign in order to remove a threat that, given such a scale, against such an enemy, requires readiness for a sustained campaign”.

Even the most brainwashed Israelis wouldn’t be surprised that #Israel’s war on #Iran has turned into a prolonged engagement instead of the quick, limited operation initially promised. Netanyahu’s son’s postponed wedding logistics must be getting quite complicated, but the people who are really paying the price for this strategic farce really don’t seem to have a say at all.
