Poliverso è un progetto indipendente per mettere a disposizione modi alternativi di usare il Fediverso. Ecco i motivi per cui è importante sostenerlo. Anche se sei un utente di altre istanze
Il progetto Poliverso, da cui nasce lo stesso progetto feddit.it, è stato creato per mettere a disposizione degli utenti italiani un'intera istanza basata su Friendica, che non è solo la più completa alternativa a Facebook, ma è anche il software più potente per l'esplorazione del Fediverso!
Con poliverso.org puoi interagire con tutti i profili delle Fediverso, ma puoi anche collegare il tuo account Bluesky; a differenza di Mastodon puoi scrivere post lunghi con il testo formattato e le immagini in linea, ma puoi anche creare eventi o interagire con gli eventi di Mobilizon, seguire il feed RSS di altri siti web o addirittura di canali telegram e puoi impostarne anche la pubblicazione automatica dal tuo profilo. Con Friendica è possibile anche creare utenti di servizio gestiti da uno staff di più utenti ognuno con un proprio account. Infine è possibile creare gruppi del Fediverso, come i gruppi Facebook, ossia degli account che quando vengono menzionati ricondividono automaticamente il post pubblicato, cosicché venga visto da tutti gli utenti (utenti di tutto il fediverso!) che seguono quel gruppo.
Ma il progetto Poliverso non si ferma qui: insieme al blog lealternative.net abbiamo aperto feddit.it, la prima istanza italiana basata su Lemmy, un'alternativa a reddit perfettamente federata con il resto del Fediverso. Su feddit.it puoi scegliere una delle tante comunità tematiche presenti e aprire un nuovo thread, come su un subreddit, e segnalare o commentare i link di articoli di giornale o di post interessanti, visualizzandoli in un interfaccia che ricorda quella di un forum. Feddit.it non è soltanto uno spazio a disposizione dei suoi utenti, ma tutti coloro che dispongono di un account Mastodon, Friendica, Pleroma, Misskey o Pixelfed [b]possono aprire un nuovo thread (anche dal tuo blog WordPress!) creando un nuovo post e menzionando la comunità di proprio interesse![/b]
Il terzo progetto di Poliverso è costituito da poliversity.it, la prima istanza Mastodon in Italia dedicata al mondo dell'università e della ricerca ma anche a quello del giornalismo. Se sei un ricercatore, uno studente, un giornalista o se semplicemente sei interessato a questi temi, poi iscriverti e partecipare alle discussioni.

Diciamo 2010... dài! 😁 E comunque qui hai totalmente ragione: l'interfaccia è davvero retrò, ma qui su Poliverso stiamo valutando la possibilità di creare un accesso alternativo attraverso Soapbox o Semaphore (grazie a un'idea di @Chiara [Ainur] [Айнұр] ❤️). Questi strati applicativi sono molto interessanti e forniscono addirittura un'interfaccia molto più bella e moderna rispetto a quella dello stesso Mastodon, ma dobbiamo prima capire bene come farci girare le funzionalità più avanzate di Friendica, perché sono quelle funzionalità che rendono questo software così unico e vantaggioso rispetto agli altri software del fediverso
Mai usato Friendica, ho giusto dato uno sguardo all'API per un'applicazione a cui ho lavorato (wink wink), ma consultando la documentazione ho notato che implementa l'API di Mastodon. Non basterebbe utilizzare uno dei tanti frontend già disponibili per Mastodon? O per caso Friendica ha delle funzionalità in più che non sarebbero disponibili su tali frontend?
@Nerd02 hai compreso perfettamente il problema: è vero, Friendica implementa l'api di Mastodon, ma per far funzionare alcune funzionalità devono essere tarati gli strati applicativi che oggi vanno bene per mastodon o per pleroma. Questo è il problema che, discutendo con @Fabio è emerso come Maggiore criticità.
Non sono un talebano di Friendica, ma bisogna fare una analisi funzionale per capire quali sono le cose alle quali poter rinunciare e quali no. Sì siamo costretti a eliminare alcune peculiarità distintive del sistema per far somigliare tutto a mastodon o misskey, Allora tanto varrebbe utilizzare mastodon o misskey 😅
Friendica è un software eccezionale nel quale c'è tutto o quasi, ma è chiaramente stato realizzato da sviluppatori eccezionali che tuttavia mancavano di una cultura adeguata nella gestione di prodotto.

Non metto in dubbio i vantaggi di Friendica. Anzi, volendomi avvicinare al mondo del microblogging (dal quale ahimé sono tagliato fuori, usando Lemmy) stavo giusto pensando di aprirmi un'istanza con Friendica, piuttosto che Mastodon. Però personalmente trovo l'UI davvero DAVVERO brutta, è ciò che finora mi ha allontanato dal provarlo.
Se si riuscisse ad avere un backend come l'attuale Friendica e un'UI bella moderna come Soapbox o Misskey sarebbe davvero il meglio dei due mondi.
Effettivamente per un pò ho utilizzato #soapbox per visualizzare il mio account #friendica in #poliverso per beneficiare di una grafica migliore. Ovviamente con le dovute e tante limitazioni.
Se riuscite ad ottimizzare soapbox per friendica fate una gran cosa!

Purtroppo noi siamo ancora nella fase 1, ossia quella per individuare uno strato applicativo versatile e affidabile. Sull'affidabilità, ovviamente, soapbox è avvantaggiato, considerando la sua maturità e la qualità del prodotto. Il problema è che dobbiamo valutare anche la versatilità e per farlo ci serve tempo.
Una volta Superata la fase 1 bisogna passare alla fase 2 che è la valutazione della fattibilità di un'operazione del genere sulla base degli strumenti che abbiamo a disposizione.
Poi c'è la fase 3 che non consiste ancora nel mettere le mani sul codice, perché non abbiamo la forza per farlo, ma piuttosto di iniziare una campagna di coinvolgimento di persone disposte a contribuire allo sviluppo di una versione beta... in questa fase sarà importante coinvolgere sia la comunità di Friendica sia quella di Soapbox.
Sicuramente richiederà del tempo. Se non l'avete ancora fatto provate a far girare la vostra istanza su soapbox e poi magari provate a chiedere ad alex gleasonator. Sono convinto che con una interfaccia più intuitiva ed accattivante le tante persone stanche di fb potrebbero decidersi a provare friendica.
diciamo che l'offerta di una volta era: forum o forum, almeno per un utente medio. Con gli anni sono esplose alternative come #discord, ma anche #twitch che hanno preso piede grazie all'arrivo della banda larga. Inoltre manca #Discourse che oltre a rappresentare i forum della nuova generazione ha appena annunciato di aggiungere il supporto ad #activitypub che porterà il primo vero forum nel fediverso
discord però non c'entra nulla con il web perché è più che altro una piattaforma di comunicazione voip. Per questo motivo è un po' fuori tema rispetto al post. Sarà sicuramente interessante capire in quale modo implementerà ActivityPub se davvero lo farà, Ma così come per Tumblr ho delle perplessità sulla integrazione reale con il Fediverso da parte di strumenti nati per essere privati e centralizzati

There were some really cool demos at FediForum last month, but the one that really opened my eyes was Emissary. It’s a newer project developed by Ben Pate, and it does something totally new: composable interfaces.

It’s very reminiscent of Hubzilla, but it makes customization a first-class citizen.
Deep Customization
There’s a lot of moving parts here, but it’s pretty easy to summarize: instead of simply giving you the power to customize how Emissary looks, you’re also given the power to customize how it works. Examples from the FediForum demo. Left to right: a social reader view, a to-do list view, and a social profile view. All of these were developed using Emissary’s powerful templating system. Emissary offers comprehensive documentation, and a bunch of different template types that can assist in building whatever app comes to mind. From the layout and widgets to the timelines and data types.
By following this method, is possible to turn Emissary into whatever platform you want. It uses a special JSON templating system, and the frontend processes everything with a toolkit based on HTMX. For developers, this means that you don’t need to write a frontend in a special custom framework – instead, Emissary uses the principles of HTML for development.
Contrary to other attempts to build this kind of thing in the past, Emissary lets developers write timelines and activity data as templates. Here’s how you can define a simple to-do list item:
Template Definitions

Federated Music Demo
The latest demo Ben showcased is an attempt to create an alternative to Bandcamp. It’s called Arcadium, and is designed around letting artists customize the look and feel of their band pages. It includes support for streaming audio, links to other services, a custom home page, and events.
It’s an incredible example, and as of this writing, has a little over two weeks of active development time. The idea that this kind of thing is possible so quickly is nothing short of astonishing.
Ben continues to work on Arcadium, but is also seeking insight from Fediverse musicians looking for another Bandcamp alternative. Tapping into an existing community and building for their needs would be a great idea, as we’ve already seen Bonfire do with Open Science Network.
Who is this for?
It could be argued that Emissary is for power users and developers, but I think that’s only part of the picture. Emissary is based on IndieWeb principles, and a big motivation for the project involves giving people the power to shape their Web environment into whatever they want. It’s a powerful, intoxicating idea, and I can’t stop thinking about it.
I’m going to download Emissary and tinker with it. Should my efforts bear fruit, I hope to write some guides in the near future!

Hi everyone! We're releasing on Wednesday again because "what a week, huh?" but I hope it's equally fine for everyone. This development release has a couple of features you requested (marking read posts and showing the number of unread comments, both of which must be manually enabled from the advanced settings screen because I wanted to keep the experience consistent for most users). Plus a series of fixes and improvements.
In this release I have welcomed an external contribution too,which fixed a bug with credential autocompletion. The project is slowly but steadily finding its place in the lemmy-verse it seems. Thanks to everyone who is helping in this journey and, as usual, L. F. E. T. 🦝🦝🦝

Faker
Faker brings the power to create placeholder Actors, with mocked-up data, allowing developers to see what interactions actually look like on their server in real time.
Fetch
Fetch is, more or less, the Webfinger tool we all know and love. Instead of rendering an Activity, though, it instead shows you the JSON of what that Activity looks like.
Bouncer
Bouncer gives developers the ability to look at HTTP Signatures, which are used to sign messages, and determine what’s different from one implementation to the next.
Radar
Radar lets developers create a temporary inbox, allowing them to see how new Activities come in, and what the data behind them looks like.
The best part of this thing is that, like Pixelfed’s other efforts, PubKit aims to be 100% Free and Open Source. They even included a pricing page as an easter egg, to drive the point home.
I might need the Growth plan, honestly.
We just signed up for the Beta to test it out with our own clearly-real-and-not-fake app, Womp Triangle, and are excited to take a deeper tour once we get in. According to Dansup, PubKit intends to open up to the general public within the coming month. For the time being, though, he was nice enough to share a few screenshots. If you’re reading this, chances are, you’re brand new to the idea of the Fediverse, and are just now hearing about it. Someone may have tried to explain it to you in the comments, saying “it’s like email, but social!”, leaving you no closer to deducing what it even means. Don’t worry – we’re here to help you go through the concepts, step by step, without making anything complicated.
The Fediverse (Federation + Universe) is an open communication network, built on top of the Web, where individual sites can talk to each other. A person on one site can follow someone else on another, and interact with them in a way that’s pretty similar to traditional social media.
An Easy Example
To make it even simpler: there was a time in the mid-2000’s where Facebook started to overtake Myspace in terms of popularity. For a while, it was common to have half of your friends in one place, and half of your friends in the other. Your Myspace friends couldn’t use Myspace to talk to their Facebook friends. There’s just no way to make those services talk to each other.
Tom and Mark could never follow each other this way.
At first, this seems kind of obvious. Well, duh, of course that’s not going to work! There’s no way for either site to connect or even understand each other. But if you think about it, there’s no real reason that services can’t talk to each other. They just need a common language and shared understanding to work.
That’s basically what ActivityPub is designed to do.
Wait, what is ActivityPub?
ActivityPub is what we call a federation protocol. Federation is the way that servers in this network talk to each other, and a protocol is just the shared language they use to make sense of each other. ActivityPub is just one effort to make this thing work – there have been others in the past, like OStatus or Zot, and there are other approaches currently in use, like the AT Protocol that Bluesky uses. Left: Mastodon, Right: Pixelfed. People on either app can talk to each other! Without getting too into the weeds: ActivityPub is designed around making different kinds of platforms capable of talking to each other.
Mastodon, for example, bears a passing resemblance to Twitter. Pixelfed looks a lot like Instagram. People on each platform can talk to each other and see each others’ stuff with very little friction. Mastodon users can even watch PeerTube videos from their timeline, and listen to Funkwhale music!

It turns out that this is a really powerful idea! It’s possible to tear down walls between platforms, and with this new shared understanding, talk to each other natively.
Interacting with the Fediverse from Threads
The Fediverse is a big, big world: it spans nearly 20,000+ individual servers, the majority of which connect in some way, shape, or form. It can be exciting to explore, but navigating it can take some getting used to.
Can my Threads account connect to the Fediverse?
Kind of. Fediverse integration for Threads is still in Beta, and is mostly one-way at the moment. What this means is that people across the network can see your posts, and they can send likes back to you, but you can’t follow anybody or see their comments yet. Mastodon and the rest of the Fediverse are capable of following Threads users that have the integration turned on, provided that the Mastodon server operators haven’t blocked Threads. A lot of people are uncomfortable with the idea of Meta being part of an open network, and some servers have blocked Threads completely.
So, I can’t follow anyone not on Threads?
Not at the moment. Fediverse users can follow your Threads account, see and boost your posts, and like them.
It’s kind of a weird choice on Meta’s part to do the integration this way, but it’s likely they wanted to prioritize broadcasting before they dug into the messier business of receiving.
Is there a way to see Fediverse replies to my post?
Actually, yes! It’s a workaround for the moment, but you can look up your profile on Mastodon to see the Fediverse replies. Mastodon.social currently lets you do this, and doesn’t require an account. Copy and paste your Fediverse username into the search form on Mastodon, and your Threads account will show up!
Keep in mind, this is an imperfect solution. This view simply shows you the responses that specific Mastodon server knows about. There are a number of servers that either don’t connect to each other, or don’t keep every reply on hand.
Do I have control over which servers my posts go to?
Privacy controls on Threads are still a bit limited, but it’s possible to block specific Fediverse users under Settings > Privacy > Block Users in the Fediverse.
Currently, it doesn’t look like there’s a way to block entire servers.
Joining the Fediverse Outside of Threads
After opening up sharing with the Fediverse from your Threads account, you might be curious about trying it out for yourself.
There’s a lot of cool stuff to do – which is why a big part of our site is dedicated to writing about the subject. Here’s a handful of questions that we’ve seen from Threads users already.
Why would I want to try the Fediverse elsewhere?
There are a couple of benefits that makes the wider network worth exploring. Let’s dig in!
Greater User Control
The Fediverse typically provides more control to end users regarding what they see, who they connect to, and how they share content online.
While you are still beholden to the admin of your server and the Terms of Service there, you’re far less likely to see a company like Meta restricting your articles, if you’re not on their servers. You can do your community, your way.
Tons of Communities
As a network, the Fediverse is a medley of different platforms, communities, and mediums. There are thousands of servers connected to each other, featuring academics, researchers, authors, musicians, artists, comedians, and more.
Diverse Experiences
The Fediverse already has analogs of most popular social networks:
There are also a lot of platforms that don’t have a direct thing to compare to, like Hubzilla, Misskey, and Emissary.
A lot of people are out there building the experiences they want to see, while plugging into a network that’s constantly getting bigger. A huge selling point is that they can work together.
Unique Apps
Out of all the Fediverse platforms out there, Mastodon currently has the most mobile apps. There’s a huge amount of variety – just look at all these!
Do I have to start my own server?
You don’t! While a lot of people do end up running their own servers, it’s never a requirement for participating. There are lots of community-run servers for just about every platform in the space.

There’s no proper way to say this, but Hinterlands feels like a musical 80’s synth rock adaptation of The Neverending Story to me. The heavy stadium guitars, the glamorous diamond-like synth melodies twinkling in the background, Solissa Thole’s powerful delivery with vocals.
This track goes off with a bang, and sounds like a marriage of Joe Satriani’s Surfing With the Alien with the best the surf rock genre has to offer. It’s a really fun sound, rife with shredding and distortion while reminding me of summer.

For the past ~2 months I’ve been working on my own implementation of an ActivityPub server, as a personal challenge. It’s finally come to the point where I could set up a public federation testing instance (https://testpilot.shinolabs.com/) which surprisingly just works.
While it doesn’t have a frontend yet (due to my severely lacking skills), Toki supports the Mastodon API set, allowing most fedi clients to connect to it.
It’s been a wild journey going from barely understanding ActivityPub and ActivityStreams to having something that actually federates and allows me to talk with the wider Fediverse network. It’s been something I wanted to do since at least 2018, but only now really took the steps to properly attempt it.
I’d love to hear any suggestions or potential bugs people can find (contributions are also welcome ^^)!

Leggendo questo post sembrerebbe piuttosto verosimile che la fruizione di #Threads dal Fediverso sia migliore rispetto a quella che si avrebbe utilizzando Threads dall'app e dal sito ufficiale!
Questo è un elemento su cui bisognerà riflettere quando Threads farà accedere al Fediverso anche gli utenti italiani.
Vale la pena continuare a defederare o anche solo silenziare qull'istanza? Oppure sarà più lungimirante tenere i porti aperti?
Ovviamente rispetto le istanze che decidono di defederare #Threads ma continuerò a sostenere che defederare una istanza a priori è dannoso per il concetto stesso di #fediverso, che nasce appunto per unire il web, e non per dividerlo in tribù che, pur potendo, decidono di non parlarsi per questioni meramente ideologiche. Poi non so come andrà, e se diventerà oggettivamente necessario defederarlo. Ma la vivrei come una sconfitta del fediverso.
@andreabont in linea di massima sono d'accordo con te, anche se, Considerando la storia di Facebook, la decisione di defederare Threads Non può essere considerata un semplice "a priori". Oltretutto è importante che esistano istanze disposte ad accogliere gli utenti che vogliono abitare in un luogo che non sia federato con Meta. D'altra parte, mi sembra che Threads si stia dimostrando meno tossico di quel che temevo e se continua così potrà essere un terreno di gioco interessante
@bestiolina Bisogna valutare caso per caso. Se Hitler aprisse una istanza il problema più che altro sarebbe chi si porta dietro, in quel caso l'intera istanza sarebbe tossica e capisco la necessità di isolarla. Con #Threads la situazione è molto diversa: molti non condividono le azioni della azienda (Meta) che l'ha aperto, per via di alcuni comportamenti passati, ma i suoi utenti che ruolo hanno in tutto questo?
@bestiolina Credo che si debba stare molto attenti, in un mondo sempre più complicato come il nostro, a prendere decisioni eccessivamente tranchant. Si rischia di fare la guerra a degli innocenti, discriminandoli solo perché non hanno fatto la nostra stessa scelta. E se è vero che non possiamo tollerare l'intolleranza, dovremmo impegnarci a tollerare chi ha idee diverse dalle nostre (purché queste idee non siano intolleranti), altrimenti saremmo intolleranti noi per primi.

Facebook fa schifo e il suo amministratore delegato è uno dei personaggi peggiori prodotti da questo secolo, ma bisogna sempre ricordare che le leggi europee sulla disinformazione costringono Meta a prendere i dovuti provvedimenti contro l'odio online e la disinformazione. Pertanto la reductio ad hitlerum non è troppo pertinente

penso che l'istanza Threads sia troppo generalista per affermare con sicurezza che tutti quelli che vi sono dentro la pensano come il fondatore o l'amministratore. La maggior parte delle persone pensa a Threads come un servizio gratuito in cui possono esprimersi liberamente. Non è come se apri un account su @fosstodon dove ragionevolmente puoi aspettarti che la gente che la frequenta sia un estimatore dell'open source. Defederare tout-cour non ha senso.
io più che altro mi preoccupo per i contenuti che passano. Su facebook ci sono stata poco e con nomi falsi, ma vedevo le peggio porcherie e tutte "rispettavano gli standard di comunità", non mi aspetto che threads sia diverso. Mastodon ora è un posto sicuro per varie minoranze, che qui non trovano in timeline discorsi d'odio. Lo sarà ancora una volta federato con threads? [segue]

Pensa che io ho un account da settembre e buona parte dei miei collegamenti non pubblicano nulla da qualche giorno dopo essersi iscritti! 😁
ricordo di aver letto una persona che riceveva spesso post con inviti a sucidarsi e descrizione dei vari metodi per farlo, e stando a questa persona i moderatori facevano poco e niente. Ecco, io temo che se apriamo le porte a threads ci troviamo questa roba anche su mastodon. E questo è ben più serio delle mie paranoie. Ho detto più volte di non fidarmi di Zuckerberg, ma i problemi di aprire le porte a discorsi d'odio mi preoccupano molto di più

Come ti ho già detto prima, gli utenti di threads non sono poi così tanti e noi moderatori interveniamo Sempre con molta celerità per bloccare gli utenti problematici. Per me i problemi principali sono quelli del possibile sovraccarico, che anche in questo caso potrebbe rivelarsi uno spauracchio senza conseguenze, e quello della privacy degli utenti, che però hanno a disposizione sempre più strumenti di protezione
@sabrinaweb71 però questa è una problematica che non riguarda thr3ds in quanto tale, ma le persone che lo frequentano. Persone che potremmo trovare anche su Mastodon. Non è la piattaforma che crea "magicamente" i contenuti, ma lə utenti.
@yrioll gli utenti creano i contenuti, ma le piattaforme "creano" gli utenti. Io penso che vedere che certi post grondanti veleno sono accettati incoraggi altra gente a vomitare odio sentendosi normali. Se poi la piattaforma ha un algoritmo che li amplifica perché "generano engagement" è anche peggio

È vero che le piattaforme amplificano ciò che crea traffico, ma se ciò che crea traffico è l'odio la colpa è di chi quell'odio lo crea in primis ma anche di chi lo alimenta, lo condivide. Ogni utente ha il potere di non interagire con chi vomita odio. La scelta se aggiungere il proprio schifo o se bloccare l'odiatore è della persona, non dell'algoritmo.
penso che abbiate ragione un po' tutti. Da un lato le piattaforme social commerciali enfatizzano i contenuti più discutibili proprio perché creano engagement (= maggiori introiti pubblicitari). Questo problema non esiste per ora nel fediverso, ciò non significa che ne sia immune. Prova ne è la presenza di decine di istanze perlopiù medio/piccole e di lingua inglese dove viene pubblicato un po' di tutto e che per fortuna vengono bloccate / isolate. 😥

Un'istanza o fa 10 visualizzazioni o ne fa 100000000 non cambia nulla, così come al singolo utente. Non girando soldi, non c'è quel voler "apparire per guadagnare". Anzi è l'opposto, se rompi troppo le scatole facendo discussioni inutili, volgari o intasanso l'istanza di post inutili, vieni bannato. Con Threads proveranno a far casini, ma saranno rimbalzati
Sì, hanno abbastanza risorse per farlo la mia idea di massima è che Zuckerberg abbia investito nel fediverso proprio perché, oltre a essere una opportunità in più che comporta investimenti ridicoli per quel gigante, può comportare un danno importante per tutto l'ecosistema del fediverso libero

Non so bene cosa abbia in mente zucchino, ma dubito che sia qualcosa di buono per il fediverso, dato anche che ha chiesto agli admin delle istanze che accettavano di discutere con loro un accordo di non divulgazione. Forse è solo paranoia, ma sono contenta di stare su un'istanza dove threads è bloccato, anche se per motivi diversi dai miei

Ho quasi idea che Thread non abbia una vera strategia, ma sia una mossa disperata di una compagnia sotto scandalo che cerca di distrarre con qualcosa di nuovo. Prendere il codice Mastodon è solo la maniera più veloce di farlo.

@Overwhelmed sì, ma Considera che questo è quello che succede ogni volta che sia a che fare con un'istanza problematica: all'inizio blocchi i singoli molestatori, Ma se poi ti rendi conto che quei molestatori continuano a sopravvivere in quella istanza, Allora blocchi tutta l'istanza o se proprio vuoi dare un'ultima chance, la silenzi e vedi se gli utenti che ne fanno parte continuano a molestare gli utenti della tua istanza.
@Overwhelmed Inoltre, per quanto il fediverso sia estremamente più piccolo rispetto al solo Threads, devi tenere presente che questa volta meta non la fa da padrone, ma deve confrontarsi con una comunità molto attiva nel mondo dell'information Technology e dell'attivismo, per cui ogni comportamento aziendale tossico, non resta confinato all'interno della piattaforma, ma è pubblico e può comportare un gravissimo danno reputazionale verso Meta

OS/2: estinto. Linux e BSD erano "appena nati". La scelta stava tra Ms-Dos o Apple, e questo è sempre stato un po' costoso. NextStep, BeOs e simili erano un po' di nicchia (tipo workstations).

Si può odiare Facebook e Twitter, ma sono due servizi con dinamiche diverse. Thumblr (meno noto forse) è anch'esso qualcosa a parte. Non sono sicuro cosa voglia ottenere Meta con una copia dell'idea di Twitter, come spiegato altrove forse è più un ripiego per deflettere i loro problemi con altri servizi.

manca ancora un'app mobile di qualità, al fediverso IMHO. Ce ne sono tante, alcune funzionano benino, ma l'utente medio è abituato a ben altra cura dei dettagli (soprattutto lato UI).
@Kir Su Android a parte Fedilab c’è davvero pochino, ma su iOS la situazione è decisamente migliore: Ice Cubes (gratis) e Mona (una tantum, cifra onesta) sono davvero ben fatte. Se poi uno vuole sborsare una discreta cifra annuale, Ivory - creata dagli ideatori del fu Tweetbot - è una vera opera d’arte secondo me.
@Kir Ho entrambi e lato Cupertino - con tutti i difetti/limiti che io per primo riconosco al loro sistema operativo - la qualità delle app è generalmente (in diversi casi nettamente) migliore.

If you’re reading this, chances are, you’re brand new to the idea of the Fediverse, and are just now hearing about it. Someone may have tried to explain it to you in the comments, saying “it’s like email, but social!”, leaving you no closer to deducing what it even means. Don’t worry – we’re here to help you go through the concepts, step by step, without making anything complicated.
The Fediverse (Federation + Universe) is an open communication network, built on top of the Web, where individual sites can talk to each other. A person on one site can follow someone else on another, and interact with them in a way that’s pretty similar to traditional social media.
An Easy Example
To make it even simpler: there was a time in the mid-2000’s where Facebook started to overtake Myspace in terms of popularity. For a while, it was common to have half of your friends in one place, and half of your friends in the other. Your Myspace friends couldn’t use Myspace to talk to their Facebook friends. There’s just no way to make those services talk to each other.
Tom and Mark could never follow each other this way.
At first, this seems kind of obvious. Well, duh, of course that’s not going to work! There’s no way for either site to connect or even understand each other. But if you think about it, there’s no real reason that services can’t talk to each other. They just need a common language and shared understanding to work.
That’s basically what ActivityPub is designed to do.
Wait, what is ActivityPub?
ActivityPub is what we call a federation protocol. Federation is the way that servers in this network talk to each other, and a protocol is just the shared language they use to make sense of each other. ActivityPub is just one effort to make this thing work – there have been others in the past, like OStatus or Zot, and there are other approaches currently in use, like the AT Protocol that Bluesky uses. Left: Mastodon, Right: Pixelfed. People on either app can talk to each other! Without getting too into the weeds: ActivityPub is designed around making different kinds of platforms capable of talking to each other.
Mastodon, for example, bears a passing resemblance to Twitter. Pixelfed looks a lot like Instagram. People on each platform can talk to each other and see each others’ stuff with very little friction. Mastodon users can even watch PeerTube videos from their timeline, and listen to Funkwhale music!

It turns out that this is a really powerful idea! It’s possible to tear down walls between platforms, and with this new shared understanding, talk to each other natively.
Interacting with the Fediverse from Threads
The Fediverse is a big, big world: it spans nearly 20,000+ individual servers, the majority of which connect in some way, shape, or form. It can be exciting to explore, but navigating it can take some getting used to.
Can my Threads account connect to the Fediverse?
Kind of. Fediverse integration for Threads is still in Beta, and is mostly one-way at the moment. What this means is that people across the network can see your posts, and they can send likes back to you, but you can’t follow anybody or see their comments yet. Mastodon and the rest of the Fediverse are capable of following Threads users that have the integration turned on, provided that the Mastodon server operators haven’t blocked Threads. A lot of people are uncomfortable with the idea of Meta being part of an open network, and some servers have blocked Threads completely.
So, I can’t follow anyone not on Threads?
Not at the moment. Fediverse users can follow your Threads account, see and boost your posts, and like them.
It’s kind of a weird choice on Meta’s part to do the integration this way, but it’s likely they wanted to prioritize broadcasting before they dug into the messier business of receiving.
Is there a way to see Fediverse replies to my post?
Actually, yes! It’s a workaround for the moment, but you can look up your profile on Mastodon to see the Fediverse replies. Mastodon.social currently lets you do this, and doesn’t require an account. Copy and paste your Fediverse username into the search form on Mastodon, and your Threads account will show up!
Keep in mind, this is an imperfect solution. This view simply shows you the responses that specific Mastodon server knows about. There are a number of servers that either don’t connect to each other, or don’t keep every reply on hand.
Do I have control over which servers my posts go to?
Privacy controls on Threads are still a bit limited, but it’s possible to block specific Fediverse users under Settings > Privacy > Block Users in the Fediverse.
Currently, it doesn’t look like there’s a way to block entire servers.
Joining the Fediverse Outside of Threads
After opening up sharing with the Fediverse from your Threads account, you might be curious about trying it out for yourself.
There’s a lot of cool stuff to do – which is why a big part of our site is dedicated to writing about the subject. Here’s a handful of questions that we’ve seen from Threads users already.
Why would I want to try the Fediverse elsewhere?
There are a couple of benefits that makes the wider network worth exploring. Let’s dig in!
Greater User Control
The Fediverse typically provides more control to end users regarding what they see, who they connect to, and how they share content online.
While you are still beholden to the admin of your server and the Terms of Service there, you’re far less likely to see a company like Meta restricting your articles, if you’re not on their servers. You can do your community, your way.
Tons of Communities
As a network, the Fediverse is a medley of different platforms, communities, and mediums. There are thousands of servers connected to each other, featuring academics, researchers, authors, musicians, artists, comedians, and more.
Diverse Experiences
The Fediverse already has analogs of most popular social networks:

IFTAS, the Trust & Safety organization dedicated to the Fediverse, published a guide on the EU’s Digital Services Act earlier this week. The guidance is primarily geared towards instance admins and moderation teams in the Fediverse, and spells out policy obligations for compliance.
If your server has member accounts in the EU, or is publicly viewable in the EU, your service is most likely impacted by this regulation, even if you are not based or hosted in the EU. IFTAS BLOG
Despite the fact that there are now new considerations in place for people who run Fediverse instances, there are a number of positive outcomes here:
Most Fediverse servers are relatively small communities, and likely fall under the designation of “Small and Micro Enterprises” – if your server doesn’t employ 50 or more people, and doesn’t take an annual income of over 10 million Euros, you’re probably in this designation. Compared to Very Large Online Platforms, your obligations are fewer in comparison.
Services are not considered liable for content unless they have been notified of its presence. Failure to take said content down is where the liability starts
Platforms are not held liable for proactively searching for and removing illegal content.
Big Takeaways
Most of what’s listed in EU DSA requirements come across as simple, common sense, and already-adopted practices. The report published by IFTAS provides suggestions for best practices, and even includes templates for the bare minimum requirements for admins to use.
The biggest changes admins need to be aware of mostly relate to accountability: servers need to assign an EU representative for compliance, need to report on malicious content to local authorities, and needs to provide a notice mechanism (such as email) to inform suspended or banned users of a service of the action taken, as well as the reason.
On the matter of being required to assign an EU-based representative for compliance, IFTAS states the following:
If your service is accessible to users in the EU but you don’t have an establishment there, you’re required to designate either a legal or natural person as your legal representative within one of the Member States where you offer services.
Your legal representative will act on your behalf for interactions with the EU’s Member States’ authorities, regarding compliance with and enforcement of the DSA. You must notify the Digital Services Coordinator in the Member State of your representative’s name, postal address, email address, and telephone number. Ensure this information is public, easily accessible, accurate, and regularly updated. Most legal representative services do not offer an affordable option for donation-driven services.
IFTAS is researching ways to offer this service, but in the meantime, we strongly recommend you ensure you have added a designated contact for authorities to reach you
This will probably be the biggest hurdle for instance operators in the short term, as many instances are roughly the same size as a community group or forum, in terms of users. This is a new consideration for a lot of admins, and not necessarily one that anybody’s given thought to in the past fifteen years.
Regardless, IFTAS has produced a valuable service with lots of insight, advice, and examples for server admins. Hopefully, this will serve as a benefit to the Fediverse as many attempt to navigate compliance for the very first time.

Most of what’s listed in EU DSA requirements come across as simple, common sense, and already-adopted practices. The report published by IFTAS provides suggestions for best practices, and even includes templates for the bare minimum requirements for admins to use.
The biggest changes admins need to be aware of mostly relate to accountability: servers need to assign an EU representative for compliance, need to report on malicious content to local authorities, and needs to provide a notice mechanism (such as email) to inform suspended or banned users of a service of the action taken, as well as the reason.
On the matter of being required to assign an EU-based representative for compliance, IFTAS states the following:
If your service is accessible to users in the EU but you don’t have an establishment there, you’re required to designate either a legal or natural person as your legal representative within one of the Member States where you offer services.
Your legal representative will act on your behalf for interactions with the EU’s Member States’ authorities, regarding compliance with and enforcement of the DSA. You must notify the Digital Services Coordinator in the Member State of your representative’s name, postal address, email address, and telephone number. Ensure this information is public, easily accessible, accurate, and regularly updated. Most legal representative services do not offer an affordable option for donation-driven services.
IFTAS is researching ways to offer this service, but in the meantime, we strongly recommend you ensure you have added a designated contact for authorities to reach you
This will probably be the biggest hurdle for instance operators in the short term, as many instances are roughly the same size as a community group or forum, in terms of users. This is a new consideration for a lot of admins, and not necessarily one that anybody’s given thought to in the past fifteen years.
Regardless, IFTAS has produced a valuable service with lots of insight, advice, and examples for server admins. Hopefully, this will serve as a benefit to the Fediverse as many attempt to navigate compliance for the very first time.

That's only the one side of the medal. There's also the second one. Lots of dev's are pretty good at what they are doing yes, but also they don't pay enough attention to other aspects of their work. Those direct ones and especially indirect ones as well. There many more things to have in mind as only code, usability, UI and such. There are laws, social impacts, mental or even moral ones as well. Most of devs doesn't know about that. And that's fine, because they don't have such duty. 1/2

They need to hire a lawyers or other experienced in some topics people, and this cost enormous amount of money. They need to learn how something like that works, they need to take all responsibility of what they are doing and what effects their work/projects will have in the future on people. And this can be very overwhelming for some of them.

I for one salute and thank the developers. I really appreciate no force feeding, no advertisements except from artists and crafts people trying to make a living.
Dev abuse is why key packages end up with ill-intentioned maintainers. #xz Spoilt little brat problem has dogged open-source since forever; entitlement of some people is absolutely staggering. 'negative feedback' being any complaining without a supplementary ticket/issue. Generally I have been lucky (your user demographic really makes a difference apparently) - "non-technical" people being much more respectful and appreciative.
If you can not donate, tell your friends & family who use #Instagram that there is a better alternative called Pixelfed & that they should check it out. You could even encourage them to start their own Pixelfed instance together too!
The weird/new thing about Fedi, is how many people have strong critical opinions about websites they aren't using, and exactly what principles those websites should be advancing.
I do think _operating_ a forum is inherently more thorny than software development.
But I don't suppose that's much comfort, when you're a small developer of forum software. Norms against harassment don't seem to be very strong in this case.
There is no place on social media for personal attacks on anyone. If I ever see a toot with a personal attack I block and report that account, even if the toot is not directed at me. We should all be doing this. F*ck these nasty people.
And on other media? As a YouTube creator with a relatively popular channel (FlyingMAir), my policy on any commentor with something nasty to say to me or another commentor was to block them from comments. I have zero tolerance for this shit.
One good way to support the Fediverse's volunteer devs: ask them to work with volunteer design and user-research practitioners who help them to develop and test usable designs – before any substantial code is written.
Testing mockups and prototypes with the community would reduce unhappiness all around.
I don't use Pixelfed, but I do love the work you do. As one open source dev to another, thanks bro. A lot of people appreciate what you do and your work, even if they don't say so.

Mastodon is well developed. The rest ... I can't really speak for. When an app like Lemmy that purports to be a Reddit replacement locks users who enable 2FA out of their accounts, you can't be surprised users get angry

E comunque qui hai totalmente ragione: l'interfaccia è davvero retrò, ma qui su Poliverso stiamo valutando la possibilità di creare un accesso alternativo attraverso Soapbox o Semaphore (grazie a un'idea di @Chiara [Ainur] [Айнұр] ❤️). Questi strati applicativi sono molto interessanti e forniscono addirittura un'interfaccia molto più bella e moderna rispetto a quella dello stesso Mastodon, ma dobbiamo prima capire bene come farci girare le funzionalità più avanzate di Friendica, perché sono quelle funzionalità che rendono questo software così unico e vantaggioso rispetto agli altri software del fediverso

in reply to Nerd02 • •@Nerd02 hai compreso perfettamente il problema: è vero, Friendica implementa l'api di Mastodon, ma per far funzionare alcune funzionalità devono essere tarati gli strati applicativi che oggi vanno bene per mastodon o per pleroma. Questo è il problema che, discutendo con @Fabio è emerso come Maggiore criticità.
Non sono un talebano di Friendica, ma bisogna fare una analisi funzionale per capire quali sono le cose alle quali poter rinunciare e quali no. Sì siamo costretti a eliminare alcune peculiarità distintive del sistema per far somigliare tutto a mastodon o misskey, Allora tanto varrebbe utilizzare mastodon o misskey 😅
Friendica è un software eccezionale nel quale c'è tutto o quasi, ma è chiaramente stato realizzato da sviluppatori eccezionali che tuttavia mancavano di una cultura adeguata nella gestione di prodotto.
Friendica sembra essere stato sviluppato Per esaudire tutti ma proprio tutti i desideri di tutti i potenziali utenti...
In pratica, si è voluto realizzare un gigantesco e potentissimo Mecha modulare come Voltron
Purtuttavia il risultato estetico ed ergonomico è stato più simile a uno di quei mostri Goffi e dimenticabili che venivano spediti a ogni puntata per sconfiggere il robottone protagonista...😁 😄 🤣

Non metto in dubbio i vantaggi di Friendica. Anzi, volendomi avvicinare al mondo del microblogging (dal quale ahimé sono tagliato fuori, usando Lemmy) stavo giusto pensando di aprirmi un'istanza con Friendica, piuttosto che Mastodon. Però personalmente trovo l'UI davvero DAVVERO brutta, è ciò che finora mi ha allontanato dal provarlo.
Se si riuscisse ad avere un backend come l'attuale Friendica e un'UI bella moderna come Soapbox o Misskey sarebbe davvero il meglio dei due mondi.

Purtroppo noi siamo ancora nella fase 1, ossia quella per individuare uno strato applicativo versatile e affidabile. Sull'affidabilità, ovviamente, soapbox è avvantaggiato, considerando la sua maturità e la qualità del prodotto.
Il problema è che dobbiamo valutare anche la versatilità e per farlo ci serve tempo.
Una volta Superata la fase 1 bisogna passare alla fase 2 che è la valutazione della fattibilità di un'operazione del genere sulla base degli strumenti che abbiamo a disposizione.
Poi c'è la fase 3 che non consiste ancora nel mettere le mani sul codice, perché non abbiamo la forza per farlo, ma piuttosto di iniziare una campagna di coinvolgimento di persone disposte a contribuire allo sviluppo di una versione beta... in questa fase sarà importante coinvolgere sia la comunità di Friendica sia quella di Soapbox.
Solo dopo si può iniziare a fare qualcosa... 😭

Se non l'avete ancora fatto provate a far girare la vostra istanza su soapbox e poi magari provate a chiedere ad alex gleasonator. Sono convinto che con una interfaccia più intuitiva ed accattivante le tante persone stanche di fb potrebbero decidersi a provare friendica.
