#ActivityPub in #PHP?
Why not?

ActivityPub Server in a Single PHP File
Any computer program can be designed to run from a single file if you architect it wrong enough! I wanted to create the simplest possible Fediverse server which can be used as an educational tool to show how ActivityPub / Mastodon works.Terence Eden’s Blog
I'm trying to debug an ActivityPub plugin problem, and so far the only thing I've found is this in the access_logs:
"POST /wp-json/activitypub/1.0/actors/270596/inbox HTTP/1.1" 404
Any ideas? #wordpress #activitypub #mastodon

Mastodon gGmbH is listed as a partner of the #SocialWebFoundation!
The mission of SWF does not match, if not contradicts the purpose and object of the gGmbH.
In my point of view this is the beginning of "embrace, extend and extinguish" of #activitypub like we saw with #xmpp
I'm so happy to see #opensource #foss projects supporting non-corporate platforms like #peertube 😀 @Penpot :penpot:
Make sure to give them a follow using #activitypub to get alerted to all new videos that they post... and as an added bonus you can comment directly from the #fediverse client of your choice:)

I submitted a Pull Request to update MacPorts' snac to 2.60 here:
github.com/macports/macports-p…
All GitHub Actions Continuous Integration checks passed OK.
I still am not in a place in my life where commit access is a responsibility I am willing to take on, so it is up to someone else to merge it.
Neat to see the improvements to Mastodon migration in this release! Maybe that will help facilitate more users?
Thank you, as usual! Also, nice to see a code push on a Thursday (in UTC at least?) not a Friday! ^_^

yea trying to understand bluesky moderation. afaik it's potentially decentralized but not really. not yet at least. it's like if a much larger percentage of #ActivityPub users were all on mastodon dot social. and since bluesky is bigger, there must be a ton of human mods. where/who are they? since it's VC backed, are they paid well? obviously I do not understand their business.

did you know that the #ActivityPub plugin for #WordPress supports "content warnings"?

I don’t think people understand that this is a WordPress blog, so their replies get converted to comments I have to approve. While your replies appear instantly on your instance, they have to be approved on mine. I trash all negative or antagonistic comments if I even read them.
If you are particularly persistent, I shadowban you by disallowing your comments. If your instance, as a whole, is problematic, I will just IP ban your entire host. This is my instance. I can do that. The way it works is that I can disallow your comments so that while they show up on your instance and the instances your instance is federated with, they are disallowed from even becoming pending comments. I don’t respond; I literally just delete your comments.
So, while your replies are visible on your side, they are not visible on my site because I’ve trashed them. How people waste their time is wild to me.
I just couldn’t imagine coming onto someone else’s site—this is a blog—and giving your unsolicited opinion to a complete stranger that no one asked you for, especially when they will just delete your reply.
While this is a blog and my posts are rather long-winded, make no mistake: I don’t write for a living. So, you are not affecting me in any way. You are just wasting your time because I will merely delete your reply.
If I am feeling particularly petty and it has no favorites or boosts, I might redraft the post so that your reply has been deleted on my end and is no longer linked to yours on your instance.
Nine out of ten times, I will not respond and will just think you are an idiot as I delete your reply without even fully reading it.

Government communications should never be limited by commercial paywalls. Requiring sacrificing control of my data and privacy is no different than a paywall.
#ActivityPub is not the answer for everything; open RSS or @Mastodon feeds for happenings, POTS or @signalapp for comms. Most importantly, government presence online must be from an official domain like .gov
After getting to try the #Snac activity pub server developed by @grunfink on bsd.cafe thanks @stefano , I'm kind of tempted to spin up my own instance. Anyone here other than Stefano that runs their own instance ? Please share you pro's and con's plus any workarounds you have come up with.
Also how are you viewing / posting on mobile ? Are you just sticking with web or using the likes of #Tusky ?
#Fediverse #ActivityPub
I am following the situations with WordPress, WP Engine, and Mozilla Firefox. I more or less use WordPress just to access the fediverse and for personal blogging. I am a little concerned that this might affect ActivityPub-related functionality.
Here is an AI summary of a TechCrunch article:
WordPress is facing a major dispute between its founder, Matt Mullenweg, and hosting provider WP Engine. Mullenweg criticized WP Engine for disabling post revision history and misusing the “WP” brand, leading to confusion. WP Engine responded with a cease-and-desist letter, alleging Mullenweg tried to extract fees for the WordPress trademark. Mullenweg then restricted WP Engine’s access to WordPress.org, causing disruptions.WP Engine sued Automattic, accusing Mullenweg of abusing power. The controversy has raised concerns about control over WordPress, with 159 Automattic employees leaving in protest over Mullenweg’s leadership.
So, at the moment, I do not mind using it, but the hints at the enshittification of WordPress have me considering writing a CMS of my own more and more. Honestly, I don’t want to put forth the effort. Since CMSs are basically CRUD applications and WordPress is open source and has been around forever, AI would probably be really effective at writing the code, so I could just use AI to write the code for me.
Considering that ActivityPub is relatively easy to implement, I could just have it write my own module for that. At the moment, things are not bad enough, but if things continue to go south with WordPress, I will replace them with AI to write the code for my own CMS. How’s that for ironic?
I haven’t written anything in PHP in years, and honestly, I don’t want to try to relearn PHP just for the purpose of creating a CMS. The programming language I am fond of is Python. I am heading into my 40s, so I am long since past that age where I need to argue with complete strangers on the Internet or overshare for validation. To be completely honest, I use social media as a vehicle for sadomasochism and schadenfreude more than anything.

Actually, you know, I can make a pretty compelling case that #ActivityPub-as-a-standard-protocol is already dead and has been for quite awhile.
Again. Doesn't mean that it is useless to write in it. But it does mean that what you are writing in is almost certainly some specific flavor of the protocol, not AP-proper or your own variant.

Implementing ActivityPub from scratch requires more than you might think. Just use Fedify and feel free to create your own ActivityPub implementation!
