The duopoly's housing push is already trampling natural habitat. We can build fast AND build for biodiversity. It's not either/or. It's a choice the majors just aren't making.

First day of our CH-2026 tour. Today we hiked up to the Europahütte. We found a lot of small flags along the route, which led us to think that a trail running event took place or was about to take place. At the hut it indeed showed that today stage 1 of the Ultra Tour Monte Rosa (UTMR) came by (the athletes were already through when we came on their route).
The whole day we had excellent views on the Bishorn (4149m). We climbed it back in 2016 (via the normal route at the back). Unreal to see it from this side. The glacier on the left side of the zoomed-in picture is currently unstable and since this week the hiking routes below it are closed. It might crash on the bigger glacier below and go down into the valley.

Day 2 started with 40 trailrunners on the hut terrace and quickly afterwards we heard rumble from the Bishorn (no relation I guess 😅). Something had broken of somewhere, but even comparing the pictures if yesterday did not show exactly what. It took approx 10 minutes for the rumble to die down.
After descending to Täsch (because of trail closures) we ascending towards the Täschhütte. The hut is located high above the valley and is visible from afar (on the first picture high on the left).

Is one way to think about the plight of graduates, not to differentiate between workers & AI-agents (and associated technologies), but rather (in a statistical sense) to treat new automated technologies as 'knowledge workers' themselves?
if so, AI & its associated technologies have massively (and quickly) expanded the knowledge workforce & as such the decline in the price of knowledge work (wages/graduate premium) is dropping due to an excess of labour supply...

After cca 3 years of struggling with botnet, registering fake accounts on our instance, I finally started to play with some internet security basics.
The first free blocklist I stumbled upon was github.com/stamparm/ipsum - because web sites with fancy graphics seem to offer just few free queries and then ask for money (the security game is about money, just like advertising and spam... maybe even more so). The blocklist seems to be mostly list of tor exit nodes and known hacked routers.
Surprisingly, almost all IP addresses where the fake accounts came from were on this list. And in few cases, when won't, the subnet pattern was obvious and my malicious IP was the one the few, which were missing from mapped subnet. In other cases, I narrowed my suspected /24 subnet into smaller range using the blocklist.
Automatic conversion of the ipsum.txt file to list of obvious malicious subnets may be nice challenge for former programmer, like me...
There is API for maintaining Mastodon instance IP block list, but it is just like with closing the registrations (registration approval won't stop bots from attempting). There would be still some chance, that some IPs on the list are by mistake. So I am mostly using the list to verify manual blocking, for now.
Basically, any security based on centrally maintained block lists is doomed by default. It would be nice, if Mastodon (or other future, better Fediverse software) can federate IP blocklist of instances which trust each other, so we can crowdsource the hard work.
