Artificial intelligence and the wellbeing of workers: no evidence of a sizeable negative impact of AI on workers’ well-being and mental health.
We find no evidence of a sizeable negative impact of AI on workers’ well-being and mental health. If anything, there is evidence of an improvement in health status and health satisfaction, which may be explained by the decline in job physical intensity. Overall, our results are consistent with the lack of negative effects of AI on the labor markets.

CEOs Using AI to Terrorize Their Employees
As artificial intelligence becomes the corporate buzzword du jour, executives are finding more and more ways to shoehorn the trendy tech into their everyday business operations. That has a lot of workers anxious about automation, income inequality, and increased workloads — something c-suite bigwigs are all too happy to take advantage of.
Though AI — really just a fun name for large language models (LLMs), or predictive chatbots — in its current state isn't likely to bring a labor revolution anytime soon, CEOs find that the threat of AI automation works just as well.

Republican lawmaker nearly died amid new Florida abortion laws – but blames the left
Kat Cammack recounts emergency room ordeal but claims ‘fearmongering’ by Democrats and pro-choice activists sowing confusion among medical professionals
Florida Republican Rep. Kat Cammack has revealed that she almost died last year as a result of her state’s six-week abortion ban, which left hospital staff reluctant to treat her ectopic pregnancy for fear of criminal prosecution.
Cammack was only five weeks pregnant at the time, the embryo had no heartbeat and her own safety was in jeopardy, but nevertheless the congresswoman found herself forced to pull up the letter of the law on her phone to argue the case and even put in a call to Governor Ron DeSantis, without being able to reach him, before staff relented and came to her aid.
But surprisingly, given her ordeal, the representative does not feel the law itself is at fault and instead blames Democrats for scaring medical professionals into confusion over their responsibilities.

Republican senators’ proposed Medicaid cuts threaten to send red states ‘backwards’
Advocates fear Senate’s version of Trump’s budget bill could leave millions without healthcare and boost corporations
Advocates are urging Senate Republicans to reject a proposal to cut billions from American healthcare to extend tax breaks that primarily benefit the wealthy and corporations.
The proposal would make historic cuts to Medicaid, the public health insurance program for low-income and disabled people that covers 71 million Americans, and is the Senate version of the “big beautiful bill” act, which contains most of Donald Trump’s legislative agenda.
“With the text released earlier this week, somehow the Senate made the House’s ‘big, bad budget bill’ worse in many ways,” said Anthony Wright, the executive director of Families USA, a consumer healthcare advocacy group, in a press call.

An AI video ad is making a splash. Is it the future of advertising?
In just 30 seconds, the video sprints from one unlikely scenario to another: a pot-bellied partier cradles a Chihuahua; a bride flees police on a golf cart; a farmer luxuriates in a pool full of eggs. Oddball details fill the screen, like a sign reading "Fresh Manatee.""Kalshi hired me to make the most unhinged NBA Finals commercial possible," the video's creator, P.J. Accetturo, said on X.
The Kalshi ad had a high-profile debut, appearing in the YouTube TV stream of Game 3 of the NBA Finals on June 11. That placement, and the over-the-top content, might suggest weeks of work by a team of ad agency creatives, film crews and actors at far-flung locations. But Accetturo says he used AI tools instead, taking just two days to create an ad whose tone flits between internet memes and Grand Theft Auto.

Israel threatened to kill wives and children of Iranian generals if they refused to leave Iran
People working for Israel’s security services who speak Persian, Iran’s primary language, called senior Iranian officials on their cellphones and warned them that they, too, would die unless they ceased supporting the regime of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader, according to the three people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss clandestine operations. One of them estimated that more than 20 Iranians in positions of power were contacted.
The Washington Post obtained an audio recording and transcript of one such call, which took place the same day, June 13, that Israel began its bombardment of Iran.
“I can advise you now, you have 12 hours to escape with your wife and child. Otherwise, you’re on our list right now,” an Israeli intelligence operative told a senior Iranian general close to the country’s rulers, according to the audio recording. The operative then suggested that Israel could train weapons on the general and his family at any moment. “We’re closer to you than your own neck vein. Put this in your head. May God protect you,” he said.
Could Windows and installed apps upload all my personal files?
Could Windows and installed apps upload all my personal files?
Dear all
I have deleted Onedrive and disabled File system access in Privacy.
- I would like to know, which other ways that my personal files could be uploaded in a non-malicious non-hacker way?
- Just by using Windows, Microsoft could upload all my personal files to themselves if they would?
- Does every installed App / software have full access to my whole drive? How can I found out, how much access it has?
Thank you for your interest and reply
Best regards
Yes, every application has access to everything. The only exception are those weird apps that use the universal framework or whatever that thing is called, those need to ask for permissions. But most of the apps on your PC have full access to everything. And Windows does collect and upload a lot of personal information and they could easily upload everything on your system. The same of course applies for the apps as well, they have access to everything except privileged folders (those usually don’t contain your personal data, but system files).
Yes, in theory any program, including Windows itself, could upload data to the Internet if not blocked.
Windows can be restricted by a network firewall. Programs can be restricted by filesystem permissions and the OS firewall, and not running them as admin.
But is this happening? Unlikely, unless you have malware. You can inspect your traffic.
Programs can be restricted by filesystem permissions and the OS firewall, and not running them as admin
can you explain how to do this?
steam games for example are nearly impossible to run without admin, can I restrict filesystem permissions for these software?
thanks
does this mean software with admin privilege only have access to user folder not root folder of C drive?
steam games for example are nearly impossible to run without admin
What steam game requires admin permissions? I'm not aware of any games that require admin permissions.
Well, that is fair. Those anti-cheats are in user-land on not-windows. Don't think I have given admin permissions to any game, including those with Easy Anti-Cheat, etc.
I'm still surprised Microsoft allows those to exist. Particularly for something as mundane as games.

How can I make LUKS show me the number of characters I'm entering when unlocking my drive?
It's kind of buggy where I'll enter characters but they won't register. I can verify this because when booting, sometimes my num and caps lock keys will have a delay after pressing before their light changes.
This is very annoying when trying to unlock the computer, because I essentially have to wait an arbitrary amount of time before I think inputs will register properly. This wouldn't be as much of an issue if I could, you know, get some feedback that they keys I'm entering are actually being entered.
Is there a way to change this to suit my needs better?

Since I started my role as Head of Communications at Mastodon, I’ve been finding my surroundings becoming more and more… purple.
Our brand palette is a set of purple / indigo hues, and of course, I want to represent the organisation appropriately! 😄
I now have a couple of pairs of glasses with varieties of purple frames. Naturally, I also got a purple (sort of) watch band as well.
[side note – I am now a big fan of IOLLA, a Scottish brand, who made one of the pairs I’m now wearing regularly – they have brilliantly-designed clip-on sunglasses too]
I’ve also taken advantage of Framework’s new translucent purple laptop accessories, and have added a bezel and a couple of USB-C expansion modules in that colourway.

Oh, and I made a GNOME Shell user theme that uses the brand colours, with a little SVG Fediverse logo for the app menu, configured using the ArcMenu extension).
On a more technical side, I also made some small tools to create LibreOffice and macOS colour palettes out of lists of colours in text files. One hundred percent connected to the fact that I wanted to use the right colour scheme in documents and presentations 👍

Chameleon vs JShelter
What is the difference between Chameleon and JShelter?
- Chameleon – Get this Extension for 🦊 Firefox Android (en-US)
- Chameleon is a WebExtension port of the popular Firefox addon Random Agent Spoofer.
- JShelter – Get this Extension for 🦊 Firefox Android (en-US)
- JShelter is a browser extension to give back control over what your browser is doing. A JavaScript-enabled web page can access much of the browser's functionality, with little control over this process available to the user: malicious websites can uniquely identify you through fingerprinting and use other tactics for tracking your activity. JShelter aims to improve the privacy and security of your web browsing.
- Like a firewall that controls network connections, JShelter controls the APIs provided by the browser, restricting the data that they gather and send out to websites. JShelter adds a safety layer that allows the user to choose if a certain action should be forbidden on a site, or if it should be allowed with restrictions, such as reducing the precision of geolocation to the city area. This layer can also aid as a countermeasure against attacks targeting the browser, operating system or hardware.
JShelter seems to spoof info by controls the APIs provided by the browser? and Chameleon spoofs user agent and many other information.
To me both seems to serves the same purpose of spoofing. Is Chameleon spoofing without interfering with js and JShelter spoofing with interfering with js the main difference between them? In addition JShelter seems to be able to block malicious js
How JShelter and Chameleon achieves spoofing differently?

Amid its war against Ukraine, Russia condemns US strikes on Iran as ‘violating international law.’ Moscow condemned on June 22 the recent U.S. strikes against Iranian nuclear facilities, calling them a violation of international law and Iran’s sovereignty, a statement in stark contrast to Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine.

Funny how every time the GIOP does something awful we see a lot of BoTh SIdes ArE The SAMe memes.
No actual plans or ideas, but lots of memes telling people not to vote.
Is the response for "if was Kamala nothing of this would happen".
"The strongest, most lethal fighting force in the world." would do the same fucking shit
you missed the point. democrats are not leftists and will be just as bad.
don't blame leftists for how fascists coopt an electoral system in their favour.
leftists aren't really voting for trump though. most leftists i know vote for the lesser evil, but with the consciousness it ain't doing much.
it’s impossible to understand why this criminal asshole is in the WhiteHouse and not in Jail since tears ago
the way fascism coopts the masses and capitalism lets it, thats literally fascism running its course. its been documented throughout history.
it comes up when capitalism is in crisis and the people aren't aware of the class war being fought against them. part of that comes from thinking politics is just voting for the lesser evil.
leftists offer plenty of solutions starting with unionization. and much more depending on which poison you pick.
first things first though you need to notice you won't be able to vote fascism away.
You just fucking said you can’t vote away fascism. So if fascism is already here, which it is, you’re saying it can’t be voted away, which HEAVILY implies that one shouldn’t vote cuz it’s pointless; fascism can’t be voted away, so why vote?
Do you need any other explanations, you obtuse jackass pretending not to know how language works?
thats your conclusion. i literally don't care if you bother voting.
i even stated this much, how is that so hard to understand? do you need me to clarify something? why the fuck are you that angry?
Leftists are always telling you to read theory and organize. Here's a Marxist-Leninist intro reading list, and the Party for Socialism and Liberation is a good org to join.
Nowhere in this meme does it say that “both sides are the same”. It’s (correctly) showing how both parties don’t give a shit about the working class.
Republicans are horrible but you can’t expect the Democrats to save or help you from them after we have tons of evidence showing they will also break strikes, pass right wing immigration laws, attack protesters, support genocide, and do almost nothing to stop rising fascism.
Also trying to diminish supplying and funding a genocide to just “a single foreign policy issue” is pretty fucked up and not even accurate. Leftists were willing to overlook hundreds of issues we had with Kamala as a candidate if she could just do the bare fucking minimum of not actively funding and supplying a genocide and she couldn’t even do that.
Fascism and liberalism are not distinct ideologies, but the same ideology in different circumstances. Liberalism is the nice mask, fascism is the brutal one, and Capitalism will use whichever the bourgoeisie feels is necessary to maintain control and profits.
Critiquing liberalism is a "left" thing, not an "alt-left" thing, and I don't even know what that means.
