Citiverse.it è un progetto che stiamo portando avanti con pochissime risorse, ossia qualche donazione e, soprattutto, l'autofinanziamento da parte dei due promotori, ossia il progetto poliverso.org (by @informapirata ) e l'ecosistema che si è sviluppato intorno al sito @lealternative D'altra parte si tratta di un progetto molto ambizioso perché mira a creare uno spazio per gli utenti italiani che vogliono un'alternativa ai gruppi facebook locali.
Facebook infatti deve il proprio successo a diversi fattori, primo tra tutti l'effetto rete che rende più interessante un luogo in cui sono presenti "miliardi" di persone, ma il motivo per cui tanti utenti rimangono è l'ecosistema che si è creato che prevede la creazione e la fruizione di:
1) eventi 2) annunci di vendita 3) gruppi Facebook
Per i primi due aspetti abbiamo già delle alternative nel #Fediverso.
L'aspetto degli eventi è coperto da Mobilizon, una piattaforma sviluppata da Framasoft proprio per creare un'alternativa agli eventi Facebook e che in Italia è presente con il portale mobilizon.it; ma in Italia abbiamo anche le bacheche federate delle diverse istanze locali Gancio, che con un'interfaccia minimale possono consentire a chiunque di inserire un evento datato e geolocalizzato; infine Friendica consente ai suoi utenti di creare eventi che hanno lo stesso aspetto degli eventi Facebook e inoltre l'utente #Friendica è anche in grado di "vedere" nel proprio calendario gli eventi creati da #Mobilizon e #Gancio! Aggiungiamo che il plugin #EventBridge for #Wordpress consente già ora di federare i blog Wordpress che hanno attivato il plugin #Activitypub for Wordpress e uno dei plugin dedicati alla gestione dei calendari.
Per quanto riguarda invece gli annunci di vendita, il nuovo progetto Fedimercatino.it ha portato per la prima volta in Italia un server #Flohmarkt, un ambiente dedicato soprattutto al riuso in cui tutti gli utenti iscritti possono inserire il proprio annuncio di vendita (ma con un limite di prezzo impostato a 200 euro).
Per sostituire i gruppi Facebook abbiamo già messo a disposizione sia i gruppi Friendica, sia una intera piattaforma basata su Lemmy, feddit.it, appunto, ma questa soluzione non consentiva una gestione ottimale dei gruppi locali.
Con il server citiverse.it abbiamo finalmente dato una risposta valida a questa esigenza!
Citiverse.it è basato su #NodeBB, una piattaforma open source nata per i forum e che proprio nel suo design consente di cerare diverse categorie ramificate. Lo sviluppatore di NodeBB ha intrapreso un percorso di ricerca delle tecnologie possibili per cercare di trovare una soluzione che consentisse di mettere in connessione tutti i forum basati sulla sua piattaforma, in modo che un utente di un forum NodeBB potesse riuscire a leggere e commentare i contenuti di un altro forum NodeBB mantenendo il proprio account. Questa soluzione è stata trovata proprio grazie al protocollo Activitypub e oggi possiamo riconoscere che l'implementazione di Activitypub in NodeBB è il caso di successo più interessante di tutto il Fediverso, forse ancora più interessante del capolavoro che, grazie allo sforzo di Matthias Pfefferle, ha reso Wordpress la soluzione oggi più facile di creare un'istanza federata.
NodeBB ci ha sorpreso molto positivamente: le funzionalità complete di una piattaforma forum professionale si sono sposate benissimo con l'implementazione di Activitypub e le possibilità di federare utenti e gruppi (le "categorie" vengono tradotte proprio in gruppi, come le comunità Lemmy o i gruppi Friendica) sono incredibilmente performanti.
Oggi abbiamo quindi deciso di imprimere una forte accelerazione che viene simboleggiata dalla modifica del logo provvisorio che avevamo creato per citiverse.it e che oggi, pur mantenendo i vecchi colori, vuole trasmettere l'idea della territorialità, della localizzazione del Fediverso e della componente più importante oggi gestita, ossia quella dei luoghi e delle città.
Oggi l'utilizzo di citiverse.it consente una convergenza tra tipologie diverse di utenti, pur mantenendo alcune caratteristiche distinte:
1) chi si iscrive al forum, infatti può disporre di poteri di moderazione (che vanno richiesti agli amministratori) e può "visualizzare" la struttura alberata tipica del Forum; ma può anche interagire con altri utenti del Fediverso e può "iscriversi" ad altri gruppi Activitypub come i gruppi Friendica, le comunità Lemmy, i magazine Mbin o le riviste Flipboard; 2) gli utenti del Fediverso possono comunque utilizzare le categorie del forum: chi abita nel Fediverso dei gruppi (Lemmy, Mbin, Piefed, etc) può "iscriversi" alle categorie di Citiverse e creare o partecipare alle discussioni; chi abita nel Fediverso dei social (Mastodon, Friendica, Misskey, Pixelfed, etc) può invece "seguire" quelli che verranno mostrati come account di tipo "gruppo" e può crear un proprio thread semplicemente menzionando l'account corrispondente alla categoria, oltre naturalmente a seguire i singoli utenti del Forum!
Citiverse.it non è solo luoghi e città, ma presenta anche altre categorie, eppure il focus principale è sulle comunità locali e le associazioni locali; ci sono, è vero, anche categorie su temi di interesse generale, ma chiediamo a tutti gli utenti del Fediverso di valorizzare soprattutto le categorie locali, perché è da questo che dipenderà il successo dell'iniziativa e la sua "portata" nel Fediverso.
Oggi siamo arrivati a creare una novantina di città, tra province e alcune località più rilevanti, ma dobbiamo aggiungerne ancora una quarantina per completare le province e se avete qualche richiesta particolare, potete farci una richiesta. Abbiate fiducia!
Per questo progetto abbiamo investito le nostre risorse e il nostro tempo, perché riteniamo importante creare alternative: non abbiamo voluto creare citiverse.it per rinchiudere i "nostri" utenti sequestrandoli nel nostro forum, ma per offrire un servizio a tutti gli utenti italiani, sia quelli del nostro forum, sia quelli delle nostre istanze, sia quelli di tutte le istanze!
Quando utilizzate le categorie di citiverse.it ricordatevi di questo nostro sforzo e, dopo avere naturalmente sostenuto le istanze che vi ospitano, ricordatevi anche che un modo molto gradito di farci avere un riscontro positivo è quello di aiutarci nella campagna di autofinanziamento!

Servo 0.0.3 aggiunge menu contestuali e parsing CSS parallelo
Servo, il motore di rendering web sviluppato come alternativa leggera a Chrome e Firefox, ha rilasciato la versione 0.0.3 con diverse novità interessanti. Il progetto open source punta a offrire agli sviluppatori uno strumento più snello per integrare tecnologie web nelle proprie applicazioni.
Le novità principali
Come riporta il blog ufficiale, l’aggiornamento introduce i menu contestuali per link, immagini e altri contenuti web, rendendo l’esperienza d’uso più completa. Dal punto di vista delle prestazioni, Servo ora elabora i fogli di stile CSS in parallelo rispetto a script e impaginazione, velocizzando il caricamento delle pagine.
L’API per integrare Servo in altre applicazioni è stata migliorata con il supporto per finestre multiple e una nuova gestione dei menu contestuali più efficace. Sono arrivati anche controlli nativi per i video e il supporto per algoritmi crittografici moderni come SHA3, Argon2 e ChaCha20-Poly1305.
Sul fronte della stabilità, gli sviluppatori hanno risolto problemi che causavano blocchi su siti come The New York Times e crash nei benchmark Speedometer 3.0 e 3.1. Inoltre, la compilazione just-in-time (JIT) è diventata opzionale, utile in contesti dove generare codice nativo non è permesso.
Il progetto continua a crescere grazie alle donazioni mensili, che hanno raggiunto i 6.433 dollari al mese, in aumento dell’11,8% rispetto a ottobre!
Scoperte 17 estensioni malevole per Firefox che nascondevano codice dannoso direttamente nei file icona PNG. La campagna, battezzata GhostPoster, ha totalizzato oltre 50.000 download prima che Mozilla rimuovesse tutto dallo store.
Le estensioni si spacciavano per strumenti utili: VPN gratuite, tool per screenshot, traduttori di Google, ad blocker e temi dark mode. L’estensione più vecchia risale al 25 ottobre 2024.
Come funziona l’attacco
Il trucco è sofisticato: quando carichi l’estensione, il file icona PNG viene scaricato normalmente. Ma dentro quel PNG c’è del codice JavaScript nascosto dopo un marcatore speciale (===). Il malware lo estrae e lo esegue, contattando server esterni per scaricare il payload completo.
Per non farsi beccare, il sistema è progettato per attivarsi solo nel 10% dei casi e aspetta 48 ore tra un tentativo e l’altro. Inoltre non si attiva fino a 6 giorni dopo l’installazione. Non semplicissimo da individuare, insomma.

Header di sicurezza rimossi: elimina protezioni come Content-Security-Policy e X-Frame-Options dalle risposte HTTP, esponendoti a clickjacking e attacchi XSS
Iframe nascosti: inserisce iframe invisibili che caricano URL controllati dagli attaccanti, permettendo frodi pubblicitarie e click fraud
Bypass CAPTCHA: aggira i controlli anti-bot per far sembrare le operazioni del malware come traffico umano legittimo

Non tutte usano la stessa tecnica steganografica, ma tutte comunicano con la stessa infrastruttura di comando e controllo, segno che dietro c’è un singolo gruppo o attore.

Anche Internxt lancia la sua intelligenza artificiale (ma qualcosa non torna)
La startup spagnola presenta un chatbot che promette anonimato e sovranità europea. Ma, almeno secondo le prime impressioni, pare che sotto al cofano ci sia solo un modello linguistico di OpenAI.
Internxt, azienda valenciana nota soprattutto per i servizi di archiviazione cloud cifrata e che non è nuova a cambi di direzione e pseudo-annunci roboanti, ha lanciato Internxt AI: un chatbot gratuito che non richiede registrazione e promette di non conservare le conversazioni. E fin qui nulla di particolarmente strano o nuovo sotto il sole.
Il problema nasce quando si leggono le dichiarazioni ufficiali. Come riporta Tech.eu, il CEO Fran Villalba Segarra parla di “prima IA privata d’Europa“, di “modello europeo open source con oltre 20 miliardi di parametri” e di “infrastruttura 100% europea”. Lo slogan è ambizioso: costruire un’alternativa etica e sovrana ai colossi americani come ChatGPT, Gemini e Copilot.

La risposta che non ti aspetti
Ho dato una sbirciata al codice su GitHub e, sia il frontend che il backend del servizio sembrano girare su Cloudflare Workers, piattaforma di un’azienda americana. Il backend di Internxt AI sembra utilizzare gpt-oss-120b, un modello rilasciato da OpenAI (azienda californiana) sotto licenza Apache 2.0. Il servizio quantomeno dovrebbe girare sui server di OVHcloud, provider francese. Così come curiosità, anche se so che non è proprio una reale prova, ho interrogato l’assistente chiedendogli quale modello linguistico utilizza. La risposta tuttavia sembra confermare quello che si vede nel backend ovvero: “Sono basato su GPT-4, il modello di linguaggio di grandi dimensioni sviluppato da OpenAI.” Anche i loro Termini e Condizioni, almeno nel momento in cui scrivo questo articolo, non sembrano riportare nulla di interessante al riguardo.
Cosa significa in pratica
La buona notizia è che i dati restano fisicamente in Europa grazie a OVH, nel rispetto del GDPR. La notizia meno buona è che definire il tutto comr “prima IA europea” sembra essere una forzatura bella e buona: di chatbot basati su modelli europei (come Mistral) o svizzeri (come Euria di Infomaniak) ne esistono già e questo sembra solo sfruttare i modelli di OpenAI (a sto punto meglio Proton Lumo che almeno utilizza solo modelli open source europei).
Insomma come spesso accade con Internxt le cose stanno sempre in maniera un po’ diversa da come vengono pubblicizzate, è un’azienda che spesso mi lascia perplesso e interdetto con questo suo modo di fare.
Il contesto europeo
Internxt AI potrebbe comunque avere senso per chi cerca un’interfaccia che non richiede account e dichiara di non conservare log delle conversazioni. Ma le promesse di sovranità tecnologica europea, almeno per ora, sembrano più marketing che sostanza.

Brave sperimenta la navigazione automatica con l’intelligenza artificiale
Il browser Brave ha reso disponibile una nuova funzionalità che permette all’assistente AI integrato nel browser, Leo, di navigare autonomamente sul web per conto dell’utente. Per ora si tratta di una versione sperimentale accessibile solo tramite Brave Nightly, il canale di sviluppo del browser.
L’idea è semplice da immaginare: chiedi a Leo di cercare informazioni su più siti, confrontare prezzi tra diversi negozi online o trovare codici sconto prima di un acquisto, e l’assistente lo fa da solo visitando le pagine necessarie. Un agente AI che naviga al posto tuo, insomma.
Il problema della sicurezza
Come riporta Brave sul proprio blog, la questione non è banale. Dare a un’intelligenza artificiale il controllo della navigazione espone a rischi concreti: accesso involontario a dati sensibili, azioni non volute dall’utente, e soprattutto vulnerabilità alle cosiddette “iniezioni di prompt indirette” ovvero tecniche con cui un malintenzionato può nascondere istruzioni malevole all’interno di una pagina web per manipolare il comportamento dell’AI.
Per mitigare i rischi, la navigazione AI avviene in un profilo completamente isolato: cookie, sessioni attive e cache restano separati da quelli del browser principale. In pratica, anche se qualcosa dovesse andare storto, l’agente non avrebbe accesso ai siti su cui siete già autenticati. Un secondo modello di verifica controlla inoltre che le azioni dell’AI siano coerenti con le intenzioni dell’utente.
Come provarla
Chi vuole testare la funzionalità deve installare Brave Nightly e attivare manualmente il flag “Brave's AI browsing” nelle impostazioni sperimentali scrivendo nella barra delle applicazioni brave://flags.
La navigazione automatica va poi avviata esplicitamente dall’interno di Leo, e tutto il processo rimane visibile in una scheda aperta. Non ci sono quindi azioni nascoste.
Brave sottolinea che si tratta di un lavoro in corso e che la funzionalità non verrà distribuita alla versione stabile finché non sarà sufficientemente sicura. Per incentivare la ricerca di problemi, il programma di bug bounty prevede ricompense doppie per le vulnerabilità trovate in questa specifica funzione.

Tor Project raggiunge i 250.000 dollari: missione compiuta per la campagna di donazioni
Tor Project ce l’ha fatta. La campagna di raccolta fondi di cui avevo parlato qualche settimana fa ha centrato l’obiettivo: 250.000 dollari raccolti e tutti raddoppiati grazie alla partnership con Privacy is Possible.
L’annuncio è arrivato l’8 dicembre direttamente dai canali ufficiali dell’organizzazione, che ha ringraziato la comunità per il supporto. Per chi se lo fosse perso, l’iniziativa prevedeva che ogni donazione venisse automaticamente raddoppiata fino al raggiungimento del tetto massimo e la risposta della comunità è stata evidentemente all’altezza! 💜

Dicembre 2025. Il progetto di prolungamento della linea metropolitana M5 da Milano a Monza ha compiuto un passo decisivo avanti. La Giunta del Comune di Milano ha approvato sia l’aggiornamento della progettazione definitiva, adeguata alle prescrizioni del Provvedimento Autorizzativo Unico Regionale (PAUR), sia gli indirizzi per una nuova Convenzione tra il Ministero delle Infrastrutture e dei Trasporti, Regione Lombardia e Comune di Milano, necessaria per il finanziamento e la realizzazione dell’opera. Il progetto definitivo, redatto da MM Spa, ha un costo complessivo aggiornato di circa 1 miliardo e 885 milioni di euro.

Presearch lancia il suo indice indipendente Indee: ma è davvero attivo su tutte le ricerche?
Presearch ha annunciato nel Project Update #198 del 5 dicembre 2025 che il motore di ricerca decentralizzato è ora “powered by Indee”, il loro indice proprietario. Secondo il team, l’indice indipendente sarebbe attivo “dietro ogni ricerca”.
La notizia segna un passo importante per chi cerca alternative a Google che non dipendano comunque dai risultati del colosso di Mountain View. Finora Presearch funzionava principalmente come meta-motore, aggregando risultati da Google, Bing e altre fonti.
C’è però un dettaglio che non convince del tutto: l’annuncio riporta un asterisco accanto a “live” senza spiegazione visibile. La comunicazione ufficiale resta vaga su come esattamente l’indice Indee si integri con le altre fonti, e se queste ultime siano state effettivamente eliminate o solo affiancate.
Non sono ancora riuscito a vedere il video di un’ora dove magari questo particolare viene spiegato, nel caso aggiornerò l’articolo non appena possibile!

Jolla Phone: torna lo smartphone Linux europeo, preordini aperti
Jolla rilancia con un nuovo smartphone basato su Sailfish OS e apre i preordini per quello che sarà il successore del modello originale del 2013. Il progetto segue un modello di crowdfunding: servono almeno 2.000 preordini entro gennaio 2026 per avviare la produzione, altrimenti si viene rimborsati.
Il preordine costa 99 euro (interamente rimborsabili), che verranno scalati dal prezzo finale di 499 euro, scontato rispetto ai 599-699 euro previsti a listino. Consegna stimata entro la prima metà del 2026, inizialmente solo in Europa, Regno Unito, Norvegia e Svizzera.
Specifiche e filosofia
Il telefono monta un chip Mediatek con 5G, 12 GB di RAM e 256 GB di memoria espandibile. Il display è un AMOLED da 6,36 pollici, la batteria da circa 5.500 mAh è sostituibile, così come la cover posteriore (disponibile in tre colori). Ci sarà anche un interruttore fisico per la privacy, configurabile per disattivare microfono, Bluetooth o le app Android.
Sailfish OS 5 promette zero tracciamento e nessuna telemetria nascosta, con la possibilità di usare app Android tramite AppSupport o di disattivarle del tutto per un’esperienza completamente de-Googlizzata.
Continuano i progressi di Ladybird Browser: ora ChatGPT va in “tempo reale” e ci puoi giocare a Diablo
Il browser open source Ladybird continua a crescere e a novembre ha registrato passi avanti interessanti. Come riporta l’aggiornamento mensile del progetto, sono state integrate 215 modifiche al codice da parte di 34 sviluppatori, testimoniando così quanto la comunità creda in questo tentativo di creare un motore di navigazione completamente indipendente dai soliti Chromium e WebKit.
Le novità più evidenti
Una delle migliorie più visibili riguarda i font variabili, ovvero i caratteri che si adattano automaticamente modificando peso e larghezza “al volo”. Fino a ora Ladybird li supportava male e molti testi apparivano sempre troppo sottili. Ora invece funzionano correttamente e i siti hanno finalmente l’aspetto giusto.
Gli sviluppatori hanno anche riscritto il sistema di caricamento dati dalla rete. Risultato pratico? Quando si usa ChatGPT da Ladybird, le risposte compaiono progressivamente parola per parola, proprio come succede negli altri browser. Prima invece il testo appariva tutto insieme alla fine.
Altra curiosità: grazie a diverse ottimizzazioni, ora è possibile giocare alla versione web di Diablo a 20 fps costanti. Sembra una sciocchezza ma in realtà è un bel test di quanto il browser stia diventando affidabile.
Uno degli ingegneri del progetto è persino riuscito a completare un acquisto su Shopify usando Shop Pay, che è un altro di quei traguardi pratici che dimostrano come Ladybird stia diventando utilizzabile nella vita reale.
Sul fronte più tecnico, il browser ora gestisce meglio le immagini SVG, supporta nuove proprietà CSS per effetti 3D e ha superato circa 7.500 nuovi test della suite Web Platform Tests. Insomma, il divario con i browser più maturi si sta riducendo anche se c’è ancora parecchia strada da fare!

I setup a local workflow that allows me to turn a webpage to an epub on my android phone and send it to my Kobo
Introduction
Since Mozilla killed Pocket, i have been looking for an alternative that didn't depend on decisions from any tech company, but only on myself.
I used the Pocket feature quite a lot, and, even if I appreciated the effort from Kobo to replace it with Instapaper, I didn't want to depend on someone else for something as simple as reading an article later on my eink device.
I considered Wallabag and Readeck, but, for both I had to depend on someone else server, or I had to self-host, and I didn't want to deal with the complexity.
I wanted an approach where I was in control, so all the steps needed to be based on FOSS software that I could at least understand.
The basic idea
I thought that what I needed is a 2 step approach, and I could solve both of them
Turn a webpage into an epub
Send the epub to my kobo
The explanation below is long, but, especuially following step 1-a and step 2-a is fairly easy and doesn't involve any modification or coding
Step 1: Turn a webpage into an epub
In the long search to do this I ended up finding 2 apporaches, on available "off the shelf" and one that involved much more coding.
Step 1-a: einkbro
i found out that there is a fantastic FOSS browser, EinkBro, that is designed for eink screen devices, but works very well for any Android device. It is slick, fast, configurable and well designed. It implements the readibility library from mozilla, which is great, and, more than anything else, can directly export webpages as epub files. You can configure the toolbar so that the "export to epub" icon is directly visible. The exported epub is nice, looks like the "readibility" version of the webpage (probably because it is...). So, when I want to save a article I share it from my browesr to einkbro, and, from there, I export it to epub.
Step 1-b: Termux + readiblity scrape + pandoc
For this one I went all-in the rabbit hole of total control... Or maybe I could have done worse. Anyway, here are the components:
Termux: a terminal emulator for android, that allows you to do almost whatev you can do in a terminal emulator on a full blown Linux machine
Readability scrape is a command line tool that scrpaes an url and returns a simplified version of it, using the readability library from Mozilla (as in the read-mode from Firefox)
Pandoc is a command line tool that can convert documentation from one format to another, like, in our case, html to epub
I won't go into the details , of how to install what. In case, just ask.
I setup termux so that, if i share a webpage to termux via Andorid share menu, it triggers the following script ~/bin/termux-url-opener (see this webpage to understand how termux handles shared URLs):

I spent time to craft the script to produce an output that I like, but, honestly, it's not better than the one produced by einkbro in Step1-a. The advantage with the termux script is that it is a one click process. I share the link to termux, and the script generates the epub and saves to a folder that is setup in the next step to do the uplaod automatically
Step 2: send the epub to my kobo
Again also for step 2 i found 2 alternatives, one more "manual" and direct, and the second more automatic
Step 2-a: share to http
For this I use a simple app, share via http: I share the epub file via android share menu to this app. The app generates a mini web server at my local IP address (on the wifi, that can also be the one from android hotspot). I then use the kobo browser to the local address. The browser asks if you want to download the file. Once downloaded the file is added to the kobo ebooks.
By using Nickelmenu I added a shortcut to the kobomenu to start the browser, to make things faster.
This is the simplest solution, everything work locally, no third party involved
Step 2-b
As an alternative I setup a nextcloud sync.
On android I setup the folder where I save epubs as "automatic upload", so epub files are uploaded to a folder on my nextcloud as soon as I asve them
On kobo I setup nexcloud syncronization. There is more than one alternative, I used this one. Whenever I connect my kobo to wifi, the new epubs are downloaded to my kobo and added to the library. The only downside is that to delete an article, I have to delete form the nexcloud foder; if I delete it from my kobo, it gets re-added as soon as I connect the wifi
Conclusions
Maybe this looks too complex, but I learned a lot of stuff and had fun in the process. i find that pandoc is probably a bit too much for what it is needed here, in the end the epub content is a bundle of html and images, probably there is a better and slicker way to package them. If you have any suggestion to improve the workflow it is welcome 😀

ah la questione mobi non sarebbe comunque un problema perche' il vecchio kindle (con tastiera fisica, per darti l'idea!) e' jailbreakato e quindi legge anche gli ePub 😀

Two things: this is an accepted practice all over the country and the traffic code has its own traffic sign for it when it is permitted. And the suggested amendment would only make it legal in situations where there would remain 1.6m of space for pedestrians, wheelchair users, and strollers. So the car parked in the image would remain illegally parked.
Munich has made a mistake of tacitly allowing this parking practice in areas where there isn't enough space, motivated by keeping roads accessible to first responders, which is not nothing. They have clearly made a mistake if everybody still owns a car when there s above average public transport. And people will still park like assholes. Under these plans (they haven't been approved yet according to the article), the assholes could be punished though. It would just not give fines out to everybody. This is a compromise solution in a bad situation.
I would amend the plans in two areas: the grumpy people of Munich should be allowed to smear dogshit legally on every car that doesn't leave 1.6m of space on the sidewalk (the article mentions a similar occurrence). And giving up car ownership should be rewarded with free public transport for a suitable amount of time.
Once you tacitly allow this everywhere with your "yes, but allow 1.6m" rule, you've just actually allowed it everywhere with no qualifiers. No one is going to get a tape measure out and verify when they park. When its utterly common, I doubt police or enforcement officers will check either except very sporadically, allowing it to happen 99% of the time.

You clearly don't know Germans. Yes they will. They already do. You're not allowed to park within 5m of an intersection, which the people in charge of checking and giving tickets will absolutely measure. There are many other instances where distances are involved like this. They already carry a tape measure (or equivalent) for this exact reason. Adding one more case just fits the theme.

While looking for posts with the #degoogle hastag with my mastodon account, I realized that mixed in the hastag timeline there were posts to the !degoogle@lemmy.ml community, but not containing the hastag itself in the text.
I tried to look around, but In wasn't able to find an explanation of how this is supposed to work: is it because of the name of the community that is the same of the hastag? Or is or because the hastag is "embedded" in the community itself?
Mmh, that's not an explanation: when I look at an hastag timeline in mastodon, I expect to see all the posts that federate with my server and contain the relevant hastag.
In this case I for sure see also posts that are federated, but, AFAIK, do not contain the hashtag. The only element is the name of the community
According to the protocol they share (ActivityPub) communities and hashtags are essentially the same thing, they're a grouping containing many posts. Typing out a hashtag is how you tell Mastodon to add your post to that "hashtag group" (and you can add your post to multiple hashtags). In Lemmy, the community you post in IS the group (and you can cross-post it to multiple communities). The result is the same. They're the same thing, just different ways of connecting your posts into them, and displayed in very different ways depending on which part of the Fediverse you're using.
No, this is false as far as I can tell. I am willing to be corrected by someone more knowledgeable but my understanding is:
Communities are implemented not as hashtags, but as special users who "boost" everything addressed to them. That is why Lemmy sometimes gets posts made on Mastodon that mention a Lemmy community. It doesn't always look great: discuss.tchncs.de/post/4578583…
So communities and hashtags aren't the same thing. In particular, communities have moderators who can remove things or ban people. Hashtags don't.
It is a feature of Lemmy that all new posts (not, AFAIK, comments) also get the community name added as a hashtag. This is what OP was seeing and serves to somewhat increase the reach of Lemmy posts. But you can't follow microblog hashtags on Lemmy.

Given that it's a humanoid robot, I suspect that this is more of a marketing stunt than any practical deployment of robots.
Humanoid robots don't make a ton of sense in manufacturing. Why mimic the sub-optimal anatomy of a human when you can make your robotic work slave have any appendage you want, which are designed to be optinal for their task along the assembly line?
Humanoid robots mostly only make sense in spaces that need to be designed for humans (like homes or hospitals) where the robot needs to regularly interact with human infrastructure.
Sure but if you have brand new machines that are supposed to be operated by humans, buying a 10k humanoid compared to paying some real humans is going to appeal a lot of entrepreneurs: and you'll be able to mix the two kinds of workers initially, see Amazon warehouses as an example.
The training data for a lot of robots comes from tele operation so that form factor is going to stay important for some time. And making the whole plant basically wheelchair accessible isn't worth it for now. There are variants with a wheeled base but once you add in some balancing for heavier objects and kneeling to pick stuff up it's not much cheaper.
Not only is this inaccurate, it still doesn't make sense when you're talking about a bipedal manufacturing robot.
Like motion capture, all you need to capture from remote operation of the unit is the input articulation from the operator, which is then translated into acceptable operation movements on the unit with input from its local sensors. The majority of these things (if using pre-cap operating data) is just trained on iterative scenarios and retrained for major environmental changes. They don't use tele-operation live because it's inherently dangerous and takes a lot of the local sensor inputs offline for obvious reasons.
OC is saying what all Robotics Engineers have been saying about these bipedal "PR Bots" for years: the power and effort to simply make these things walk is incredibly inefficient, and makes no sense in a manufacturing setting where they will just be doing repetitive tasks over and over.
Wheels move faster than legs, single purpose mechanisms will be faster and less error-prone, and actuation takes less time to train.
There is a difference between human-scale and humanoid.
Human-scale just means the robot needs to fit in a space where humans should also fit, while humanoid means it is supposed to resemble a humans not just in size, but also in shape. A humanoid robot would generally have a torso, two arms, two legs, and probably a head.
As an example, a roomba fits in a human environment but is not humanoid. You could hypothetically make a humanoid robot that is capable of using an ordinary vacuum to vacuum the same space, but it would be significantly more complex and more expensive to do that. A purpose-built roomba is a much more cost-effective solution for cleaning up after humans.
But what I'm saying is you need a human-scale robot good at moving human scale work pieces to their correct place. These will range in size from something like a screw to something like a human sized sheet
What shape does this better than a humanoid one?
You could specially design a bunch of arms that will remove a workpiece from one station to deliver to the next, but do you have any idea how hard that becomes? You have to design each one to do that specific job, and you're going to end up with a bunch of unique robots that all need to be maintained, and probably need their own backups in case they break
Everything we make is already human centric, it just does make sense to build humanoid robots. You can have one fleet that handles all of it, they're interchangable generalists. Ideally, they can even do maintenance
Yes, it's less efficient. Yes, specialist designs would be better at their job. But it is really, really hard to do full automation, and this is a shortcut to get there
Interacting with infrastructure designed for humans is actually the killer feature for human-simulant robots, IMO. The point is that they can slot into your current workflow without retooling, and without all those pesky salary or rights considerations. Then you can evolve into more specialist robots incrementally without having to redesign the entire process at once.
Contestants must run through these brick walls, swim through the magma pool, climb the 50' smooth steel wall, and jump the chasm before smashing the watermelon at the end! Only the top 8 killbots will move on to the next round.
From what I've seen on other "advanced" humanoid robots, it probably could, using 4-10 times as much time as you would yourself, and breaking a few pieces in the process.
The fact that nearly every scene in that video is a 2 second edit suggests that if these are really being used in a factory they are doing none of the things shown in the video IRL.
I find this idea very innovative and exciting. It is being developed by Fedilab, and separates data from relay (a bit like AtProto does) to allow everyone to keep their data, even on a phone

show how "the freedom to choose" the car is not a freedom, but arrogance: a minority using cars is enough to live no room for everyone else
"the collapsing mobility" they talk about is actually caused by cars, considering that just 300 cars can "paralyze the entire city"
a subway train (but also a modern tram) would bring more people than those at the demonstration, without causing collapses

un treno della metropolitana (ma anche un tram moderno) porterebbe più persone di quelle alla dimostrazione, senza generare collassi
E non c'è stato bisogno di nessun contraddittorio, hanno fatto tutto da soli. Credo che questa rimarrà negli annali.
