Meta to stop selling political ads in the EU from October | TechCrunch
Meta announced it will stop selling political, electoral and social issue advertising across its platforms (Facebook, Instagram, and Threads) in the European Union starting in early October 202512.
The decision comes in response to the EU's new Transparency and Targeting of Political Advertising (TTPA) regulation, which takes effect October 10, 2025. Meta called the rules "unworkable," citing "significant operational challenges and legal uncertainties"2.
The TTPA requires platforms to:
- Label political ads with transparency information
- Disclose who paid for ads and their costs
- Show which elections or referendums ads target
- Maintain ads in a public database
- Follow strict conditions for user targeting3
Companies face fines of up to 6% of annual global revenue for violations2. Google made a similar move in late 2024, also announcing it would stop serving political ads to EU users before the rules take effect4.
Meta emphasized that users can still discuss politics and politicians can share content "organically" on its platforms - they just cannot use paid advertising to amplify their messages2.

So I've had multiple GF's who were physically abusive, cheaters, chronic liars, gaslighters... so is there a version of this for me? Or are men never victims still?
So glad this didn't exist like ~15 years ago. My one ex, who decided to start a relationship with her co-worker, while we were looking for and then financing a house... When I broke up with her (like 1 week after closing), while I was trying to process the betrayal, she took to Facebook and text messages spamming EVERYONE a fake story about me, trying to pass herself as the victim. Even including a fake pregnancy! All to make me look bad because I caught her cheating. Thankfully, this app didn't exist, and several of my female friends reached out to me for my side of the story.
But all the "stories" on that app, 100% vetted, right? We get unbiased, both sides of the story, right... Evidence was required... right? Because imaging the harm someone could do if they were just petty, or scornful, of just bored. It's not like women have ever made false rape claims... right....
I'm not trying to imply my situation is what all men go through... but you can't just dismiss it, or other men, because it doesn't fit into your social media-fueled narrative. Yes, some men suck (and that's selling it short). But, women are just as capable of the same level of suck. We are all, after all, human.
I don't know why they upset you "almost as much" - people who pretend to be victims are in fact people that are victimizing others. "Other sides" notwithstanding, you said it yourself in so many words: they're also further victimizing actual victims.
I frankly find it more inexcusable.
Issues logging in as of this am with iOS clients. Mobile web is fine.
Having issues with all iOS app clients, both App Store and TestFlight versions. iOS is latest version.
I’m unable to login via any clients.
I had no issues with Voyager yesterday. I was able to browse, vote, and join/remove communities. This morning, I couldn’t see any communities and the feed looked the same as yesterday.
I logged out of Piefed in Voyager, and now I can’t log back in. I keep getting incorrect password if I use my username/password, and connection problem if I use my email and password.
I tried Mlem and Blorp, and both tell me incorrect username/password. I am able to log into web just fine via Safari and Orion.
I tried with and without VPN, and I’m not using WiFi.
I don’t know if it’s related to the human check as posted a couple of hours ago, but it kind of feels like it might be.
EDIT: I just found this logged issue. My username has an uppercase Z, so it would break my login?

Lots of fluff in this article and the site itself sucks. Here's the key paragraph:
One way to achieve this would be to impose a levy on the gross revenues of the largest AI providers, collected by a national or multilateral agency. As the technology becomes increasingly embedded in daily life and production processes, the revenue flowing to AI firms is bound to grow – and so, too, will contributions to the fund. These resources could then be distributed by independent grant councils on multiyear cycles, ensuring that support reaches a wide range of disciplines and regions.
My biggest issue with this approach is that it fails to acknowledge that AI is a bubble currently propped up by venture capital. In 1-4 years all those investors are going to want their ROI, and AI companies are going to start turning the money crank hard.

There's also no way to really tell what the "cost" of generative AI is on creative fields, or any way to determine who gets what money. There aren't going to be enough grants to cover every small, independent artist whose work is buried beneath mountains of AI slop
And like, the obvious issue is who is going to enforce this? Pretty much every government has been cozying up with the billionaire tech bros that run AI companies and will fight tooth and nail against any legislation like this proposal

Say you are dual-booting Debian and Arch and want to upgrade Debian oldstable to Debian stable. But you want to keep the old installation available as a fall-back option. And you also want to re-use your configuration files and dot files, but in a way that incompatible changes to your dot files in the new Debian or Arch version do never break the old program versions.
How do you do that ?
(I describe my own approach in a comment below.)
- having a second system that boots can be very handy if something breaks - for example one can chroot intp the other system and fix a missing grub install
- when disk space becomes scarce, one csn mount it where it makes sense
No:
1) Every single modern distro keeps multiple known-good previously running copies of the system to boot back into
2) The disk space argument is just insane. Having TWO versions of an OS takes TWICE as much space as having one. I don't even get what you mean. You can mount a disk anywhere at any time
3) No part of any installed Linux distro can get into a state where it cannot be accessed, unless you encrypt or delete your entire disk without thinking
4) BTRFS or ZFS can shift back time or keep snapshots, so none of your reasoning is needed at all. Same with immutable distros.

Ma va bene, suppongo ci sia comunque tempo per scrivere un piccolo aggiornamento, prima di andare a letto… tanto, se già ieri sera ho ampiamente ritardato il sonno perché ho come al solito perso la cognizione del tempo a programmare, e la sera prima ugualmente perché dovevo fare gli ultimissimi ritocchi al progetto per l’esame del giorno dopo (…che manco sono serviti, maremma cara), allora stasera posso fare lo stesso dopo essermi liberata dal giogo della carta. 👍In mezzo a questa tale mia disperazione, almeno, c’è qualcosa di buono da vedersi in come, piano piano, tutti i miei strumenti lavorino sempre meglio tra di loro, e come io quindi mi stia avvicinando in modo sempre più comodo ed efficace ai miei piani finali (purtroppo, appunto, a scapito del sonno, ma vabbé). Avendo solo dal giorno prima fatto pace con la creazione di fogli sfiziosi grazie alla previa creazione di Papiellify, infatti, sono potuta tornare qualche attimo a Pignio; che, tra i tanti motivi, come accennai, è stato creato anche per permettermi di raccogliere materiale relativo a schifezze da stampare, oltre ai meme da ospedale psichiatrico… 🦫
E quindi, ieri sera, in un attimo (…talmente tanto “attimo” da avermi fatta andata a mimir un’ora più tardi del normale, e il mio normale è già tardissimo), ho implementato una cosa che avevo stranamente dimenticato dall’inizio, cioè il listino di singole directory del file system… e, lasciando stare che pure stavolta mi sono accorta solo la mattina in produzione di un piccolo difetto nella app (e ormai, con questo progetto, questo schemino è una certezza, sigh), oggi ho potuto godere meglio di quelle 91 immagini che ieri ho caricato in blocco sulla piattaforma, appunto in una cartella apposita: tutte (?) le carte da lettera di Nintendo Swapdoodle, rigorosamente ottenute tramite screenshot a manina dalla app sul mio 3DS e qui ricaricate violando il copyright (di software oggi non più ufficialmente distribuito)!!! 😍
Quindi, mi sono poi nuovamente messa all’opera sul fronte cartaceo mediato digitalmente, adoperandomi nel tentativo di trasformare una a caso di queste carte da lettera (di cui una gran parte onestamente molto belle e interessanti, e ne godo che ora siano preservate sul mio Pignio) in dei normali fogli per appunti — a dimensione ISO A6, anziché il quadrato di 250×230 pixel che Nintendo ci ha (in)gentilmente concesso, ma per A4 o altro vale lo stesso — e ci sono riuscita. Ho dovuto implementare ancora qualche altra robetta nel fogliatore per farlo, con non poca fatica (e non ho ancora finito…), ma ce l’ho fatta, e trovo sia incredibilmente magico vedere fianco a fianco l’originale immaginetta di dimensioni micragnose e il mio riadattamento — fatto col taglia e cuci, ma pulito, senza stretching… e soprattutto semi-automatico. 😋E si, stavolta la questione è davvero tutta qui, scusate se è poco; non sto banalmente cacciando fuori magie, bensì sto poco a poco riuscendo attivamente a combattere il principio di Murphy per cui non si può mai fare niente senza che qualcos’altro vada fatto prima. Comunque sia, i nuovi piccoli aggiornamenti che insomma ho fatto a Papiellify (assieme ai tanti ancora non discussi per il Pignio, ma vabbé) sono già online… e ho aggiunto pure il modello creato stavolta alla raccolta dei file: memos.octt.eu.org/m/gnwNvbS4zv… (dovrebbe essere l’ultimo in lista). Quindi ora, forse, posso dormire… ma domani c’è da rilegare questi 10 fogli in un quadernino da 40 pagine, quindi il grind per me non finisce mai. 😵

The example of a female pope or whatever (read this earlier) is an example of that.
Generally speaking the LLMs have left-bias because they're trained on information unlike conservatives, but they aren't necessarily asking the models to be censored

Do you think any corporation is going to bother making a separate model for government contracts versus any other use? I mean, why would they. So unless you can pony up enough cash to compete with a lucrative government contract (and the fact none of us can is, on fact, the while point), the end result will involve these requirements being adopted by the overwhelming majority of generative AI available on the market.
So in reality, no, this absolutely will not be limited to models purchased by the feds. Frankly, I believe choosing to think otherwise to be dangerously naive.

Sure they can tune models, but even "MechaHitler" Grok was still giving some "woke" answers on occasion. I don't see how this doesn't either destroy AI's "usefulness" (not that there's any usefulness there to begin with) or cost so much to implement that investors pull out because none of the AI companies are profitable, and throwing billions more to sift through and filter the training data pushes profitability even further away (if censoring all the training data is even possible at all).

BTW. There are many theories about Grok's unethical behavior but this one is new to me. The reasons I was familiar with are: unfiltered training data, no ethical output restrictions, programming errors or incorrect system maintenance, strategic errors (Elon!), publishing before proper testing.

Notably, this would potentially determine what kinds of contracts the executive branch was able to make. For instance, maybe the government wants to contract out a LLM instead of building their own. This EO could affect which companies are able to bid on that contract, by adding these same restrictions to any LLM that they provide. But on its own, the EO is just that; an order to the executive branch of the federal government.
