This is why, at the end of the day, even amidst my anger and frustration… I do have empathy for people who don’t understand solarpunk. Because they are falling prey to the actual critique I have of the genre. That we simply need more of it. That there’s not enough out there that really delves into the nuts and seeds. At least not enough to overpower the AI slop and greenwashing and capitalization of these concepts.
It feels like solarpunk is suffering from the same problem that communism and socialism have for decades: the people who are trying to build a real movement under that name are getting drowned out out tourists and haters, to the point that the strawman version is more recognisable than the "real" version.
When I first learned about the movement, I was excited and started building my own project under the banner. As I explored more, I was disappointed by how much AI slop and pie-in-the-sky roleplay there was.
I'm still building my project, but I may not publish it as a solarpunk work because I don't want it to be tainted by association with the strawman.

I’m baffled that you can say “It’s not ‘AI,’ it’s a machine learning powered speech to text system” with a straight face.
Even if we were to agree that ML-powered speech to text isn’t AI (and I don’t agree to that premise, for the record), there’s still the matter of processing the transcription to transform it into something that can be understood by the point of sale system - aka natural language processing. And while that NLP could be implemented without use of an LLM, given LLM’s current level of hype and the ease with which they can be shoved into any given product, I wouldn’t bet on Taco Bell execs approving such an approach, much less asking for it.
AI is a huge field of computer science. It's not the one tiny narrow definition of artificial general intelligence like HAL 9000 or Skynet or Detroit Become Human.
This is not AI failing to do an easy job. This is "unskilled" labor doing complex and demanding work that cannot be duplicated by trillion dollar software.
Tbh this is an incredibly easy fix, either cap the number of waters someone can order in software or have an override where a human takes over if an order is suspicious, there's not an infinite number of ways to fuck with this.
Capping waters fixes that one specific issue but not the problem.

Think the easiest way would be to collect order data for at least a good number of months if not a couple years and feed it in and use that as a baseline of what a typical human order looks like, anything that deviates too far from that baseline needs to be handled by a human until someone can validate it as a good order, though I imagine you could get false positives for new menu items unless you set a reasonable instruction for items that have never appeared in the dataset before.
there is an incredibly finite number of ways to mess with this, they just need a button to send a report to the engineers with how they got messed with and eventually they'll have a complete list. I really doubt it'd take long to iron out the vast majority of ways that can be thought of.

There are machine learning algorithms for anomaly detection though. They actually work decently well because exploits like this do in fact differ significantly from regular orders. Because they assume all anomalies are attempted exploits, their false negative rate is rather low while their false positive rate can be a bit higher.
Taco Bell has the capability to create a decently large training set from all recorded orders (which must all be valid and non-malicious) so they shouldn't have too many issues developing this model.

You know what would reduce mistakes and speed up orders? Replacing the god-awful audio equipment that every drive thru seems to use. It wouldn't cost much to install good audio equipment and it would quickly pay for itself in time savings since people could hear each other more clearly.

A touchscreen kiosk is all you need to have the customer place their own order. You just need to have 2-3 ordering stations as they will be slower than trainer staff.
That’s how my local Taco Bell is. If you don’t use your phone to place the order when you walk in there’s four kiosks you walk up to for placing your order. None of the people working are working the counter.
Most people have a hard enough time getting their car close enough to the window to get the food or to handle the card reader. I doubt many people would enjoy the toucn screen ordering as the would struggle tk get close enough and may have to lean way out of their window to order. The touch screen would also have to work reliably while wet or freezing cold.
Then you've got the issue of someone has to clean it and even with regular cleaning it has a huge potential to spread germs. Ultimately with all the disadvantages i think it would be too slow, too inconvenient, and add extra real estate to the drive thru.

They do not contradict each other. I'm certain there will be more stops as the city grows, because they keep improving it. I used to live in a city, in another state, with one of the best public transportation systems in the country, and they also kept improving that system to include the surrounding cities in other counties. Computer can't understand voices good enough so they think you say something different. For example standard voice to text has failed me for years. Voice control for years and years has still failed me. Using gps? fail every time because the computer or phone in this case thinks i say other words that sound nowhere the same. This is before and after AI. The biggest problem is voice recognition of words. Humans can separate sound and frequency better. Ear drums are better than microphones. Even in quite environments i have a voice that doesn't get translated properly and fails more often than it doesn't. So AI is going to glitch on a lot of voices too because the voice recognition part still works the same flawed way with flawed microphone technology.

I've been to multiple museums in Japan (which is somewhat relevant because Nintendo is Japanese) that either flat out ban all photography (e.g. Ghibli Museum, Aomori Museum of Modern Art) or have some exhibits that you're not allowed to take pictures of (e.g. Tokyo National Museum). One exhibit I wanted to take a picture of had a "no photography" sticker on it, but it was on the opposite side from where I approached so I didn't see it, causing staff to run up to me when I pulled out my phone to point out the sign.
I've also heard from other tourists that "no photos" seems to be rather common there.
Btw, I'm not at all saying that they're justified at all, just saying that there are indeed places that forbid photos for copyright reasons. In my opinion, no photo would ever match seeing the exhibits in person so it is entirely pointless to ban them. Even professional, official scans of pieces don't come close.

Just asking what everyone thinks of the platform. I rarely listen to music, but it seems like spotify but community edition. There are paid features but I don't seem to need them (Desktop only user), no DRM protection so I can download if I want, site is not heavy on my humble resources.
This post is just asking if Soundcloud is something I should talk positively about. Moral compass in the high seas.
SoundCloud is pretty cool, especially when compared to Spotify. I've been really liking the sc.maid.zone/ SoundCloud frontend recently, makes it more private and you can download the songs on the same page you can listen to them. But all in all, it really just comes down to your opinion regarding if you should talk positively about it.

I'm happy it is like this atleast. some people find twitter happy, but honestly I'd punish them with harsh words for praising it. I also find Youtube handy and helpful, but I would never talk positively about it.
I agree but mixcloud isn't far behind it I don't reckon. Especially as they used to have unlimited free uploads. I have 60 or more mixes on there myself and I'm just a bedroom DJ

I mean...why? you said yourself there's paid stuff that you're not going to use so just use soulseek if you're going to be downloading anyways.
I dont' use any music streaming service because the artists get paid peanuts and won't see my dime when I use them. so i'll support them more directly. Take your money, buy your favourite artists shirt or other merch.
As far as a moral compass goes, I wouldn't give any money to SoundCloud. Much like YouTube, anyone can create an account and upload music. Obviously if you upload popular copyrighted music, it will likely get taken down quickly. But the less popular it is, the more likely it'll go under the radar if someone uploads music that isn't theirs. If you don't pay for premium, then that music will have ads playing between tracks. The creator of the music won't see any money from it, I doubt the uploader would either. As it currently stands, SoundCloud profits from stolen music. Personally I feel better pirating music than I would paying for a SoundCloud premium. I honestly don't understand how GrooveShark got shut down back in the day, yet SoundCloud got to keep running. They are damn near the same exact service.

I've never used Bandcamp, but that is like the only place I would consider giving money to. On Friday's all profits go directly to the creators themselves, and you own the music. Idk if they use DRM, but they have several audio/encoding options.
Like others said, if you're gonna pirate, then pirate, but if you do wanna give people money then Bandcamp is best. Especially since you're not streaming music when pirating (or at least not from a public service)
If you're using something like Bandcamp, the artists are already getting thousands of times the money you are giving them from listening on Spotify, I think it's good enough. Even iTunes is thousands of times better.

Just asking what everyone thinks of the platform. I rarely listen to music, but it seems like spotify but community edition. There are paid features but I don't seem to need them (Desktop only user), no DRM protection so I can download if I want, site is not heavy on my humble resources.

Personally, I do not think that there is a purpose in speaking well about it. That being said I would also not speak badly about it. My own moral compass would be speak badly about the conpanies that deserve to be gotten rid of and simply use the companies that provide decent services. No need to praise a company for offering a decent service.

Using falsely visas is SK's fault, but raiding $7.6 billion plant with excessive force is too much. They could have given a warning and time to clear up the visa paperwork beforehand, but they didn't.
Appreciate the context. Still feels excessive, but at least more warranted than a lot of their other activities. I really hope they just go after corporations, but I doubt they will.

Wow such a typical big corpo move. Hundreds of people working for Hyundai, none employed by them. Legal issues can be punted to contractors, while they review themselves real hard (they promise).
I know this isn't a real source but I know someone who works at this plant and he said most were here on 3 month visit visas.
Essentially they'd be paid back in SK for their 3 months of work and would cycle in and out in rotations.
Out of all the insane raids ICE has conducted, this one is actually quite a big find since it's Hyandai essentially bypassing visa requirements for cheap labor.
Most likely ICE isn't sure whether to charge the immigrant workers or fine Hyandai since Hyandai is the one that offered them jobs and told them the process of working under a visit visa.
I think they will likely get deported without any criminal charges or individual fines, but will obviously get blacklisted from any future entrance into the US.
I am deeply skeptical of your story. This is the kind of thing that's super-easy to prove, and I feel like if they were finding real immigration fraud at this plant, they would be half-likely to actually try to enforce against it since that was exactly what they did the raid for and it would have been detected in 2 seconds once they started checking IDs. And even if not, it would be half-likely that that aspect of the story would leak to the press in some form at some point.
The whole thing where your phone autocorrected a real word to a totally nonexistent word makes me further skeptical of the whole thing. I won't say either is impossible, but they both seem unlikely.
It seems plausible to me. Large corporations doing weird stuff are nothing new. I don't know how much they'd save by doing this, and it's obviously not worth it, especially these days, but I can certainly see them entertaining the idea, or implementing it. Unlikely as it is.
ice is only mostly going after immigrants that are only in one place, the allegedled undocumented or illegals, are probably not going to be working in such public areas.

They have other issues as does any nation, but attractiveness for trade wasn't really one of them, they were already pretty bangin' in that regard, and the US losing its status as a good investment doesn't suddenly mean that Chinese markets will become always a safe investment by default. I feel like these narratives like "trade relations = loyalty and friendship, there can be only one favorite nation-crush" are sort of for public consumption.

So yeah, in business plan models all over the World, anything which directly or indirectly can be influenced by the actions of the American Administration just got a big chunk of Risk added, whilst no such thing was added to such plans involving other countries, hence doing business with America is now less appealing that doing business with other countries, in a very direct way.
My expectation is that for most countries even the Tariffs themselves (which for most aren't all that scary) haven't as much impact in making America less attractive for business than the sheer unpredictability of the US Administration.

Like Blaze mentioned, it's a whole different instance, running a different, experimental version of the code. It's the instance we use for testing features for the next version of piefed.

If anything, he's actually dragging it out as his contemporaries are even more hardline insane and would justify sacrificing relations with the US to go full gas chambers execution.
He didn't stay in power by being wildly unpopular. He's just another drop in the barrel of similar nation leaders like India's Modi or Russia's putin.
All three are very well supported publicly and privately, despite what some media outlets may want you to believe.
