E infatti, data una simile proposta, il posto è abbastanza pieno di giocatori… (immagino la puzza.) 😤

Humans navigate the social world by rapidly perceiving social features from other people and their interaction. Recently, large-language models (LLMs) have achieved high-level visual capabilities for detailed object and scene content recognition and description. This raises the question whether LLMs can infer complex social information from images and videos, and whether the high-dimensional structure of the feature annotations aligns with that of humans. We collected evaluations for 138 social features from GPT-4V for images (N = 468) and videos (N = 234) that are derived from social movie scenes. These evaluations were compared with human evaluations (N = 2,254). The comparisons established that GPT-4V can achieve human-like capabilities at annotating individual social features. The GPT-4V social feature annotations also express similar structural representation compared to the human social perceptual structure (i.e., similar correlation matrix over all social feature annotations). Finally, we modeled hemodynamic responses (N = 97) to viewing socioemotional movie clips with feature annotations by human observers and GPT-4V. These results demonstrated that GPT-4V based stimulus models can also reveal the social perceptual network in the human brain highly similar to the stimulus models based on human annotations. These human-like annotation capabilities of LLMs could have a wide range of real-life applications ranging from health care to business and would open exciting new avenues for psychological and neuroscientific research.

This is why, at the end of the day, even amidst my anger and frustration… I do have empathy for people who don’t understand solarpunk. Because they are falling prey to the actual critique I have of the genre. That we simply need more of it. That there’s not enough out there that really delves into the nuts and seeds. At least not enough to overpower the AI slop and greenwashing and capitalization of these concepts.
It feels like solarpunk is suffering from the same problem that communism and socialism have for decades: the people who are trying to build a real movement under that name are getting drowned out out tourists and haters, to the point that the strawman version is more recognisable than the "real" version.
When I first learned about the movement, I was excited and started building my own project under the banner. As I explored more, I was disappointed by how much AI slop and pie-in-the-sky roleplay there was.
I'm still building my project, but I may not publish it as a solarpunk work because I don't want it to be tainted by association with the strawman.

it's not 'ai', it's just a poorly trained voice recognition system that's trying to decipher any random person's voice. voice rec has a difficult-enough time when trained on a single person in a professional setting (lawyer, doctor, etc)--which is work we used to do here. it's going to absolutely fail in a 'drive thru' environment.

I’m baffled that you can say “It’s not ‘AI,’ it’s a machine learning powered speech to text system” with a straight face.
Even if we were to agree that ML-powered speech to text isn’t AI (and I don’t agree to that premise, for the record), there’s still the matter of processing the transcription to transform it into something that can be understood by the point of sale system - aka natural language processing. And while that NLP could be implemented without use of an LLM, given LLM’s current level of hype and the ease with which they can be shoved into any given product, I wouldn’t bet on Taco Bell execs approving such an approach, much less asking for it.
AI is a huge field of computer science. It's not the one tiny narrow definition of artificial general intelligence like HAL 9000 or Skynet or Detroit Become Human.
This is not AI failing to do an easy job. This is "unskilled" labor doing complex and demanding work that cannot be duplicated by trillion dollar software.
Tbh this is an incredibly easy fix, either cap the number of waters someone can order in software or have an override where a human takes over if an order is suspicious, there's not an infinite number of ways to fuck with this.
Capping waters fixes that one specific issue but not the problem.
A suspicious order isn't easy to define and no person who has ever participated in software development would underestimate the infinite ways a User can break software.

Sure, but how do you distill this into a rule a computer can follow? "Suspicious" is not an objectively measurable thing that a program can just check against
Think the easiest way would be to collect order data for at least a good number of months if not a couple years and feed it in and use that as a baseline of what a typical human order looks like, anything that deviates too far from that baseline needs to be handled by a human until someone can validate it as a good order, though I imagine you could get false positives for new menu items unless you set a reasonable instruction for items that have never appeared in the dataset before.
there is an incredibly finite number of ways to mess with this, they just need a button to send a report to the engineers with how they got messed with and eventually they'll have a complete list. I really doubt it'd take long to iron out the vast majority of ways that can be thought of.

There are machine learning algorithms for anomaly detection though. They actually work decently well because exploits like this do in fact differ significantly from regular orders. Because they assume all anomalies are attempted exploits, their false negative rate is rather low while their false positive rate can be a bit higher.
Taco Bell has the capability to create a decently large training set from all recorded orders (which must all be valid and non-malicious) so they shouldn't have too many issues developing this model.
If an anomaly is detected, make a human verify it is indeed an irregular order.

You know what would reduce mistakes and speed up orders? Replacing the god-awful audio equipment that every drive thru seems to use. It wouldn't cost much to install good audio equipment and it would quickly pay for itself in time savings since people could hear each other more clearly.

A touchscreen kiosk is all you need to have the customer place their own order. You just need to have 2-3 ordering stations as they will be slower than trainer staff.
That’s how my local Taco Bell is. If you don’t use your phone to place the order when you walk in there’s four kiosks you walk up to for placing your order. None of the people working are working the counter.
Most people have a hard enough time getting their car close enough to the window to get the food or to handle the card reader. I doubt many people would enjoy the toucn screen ordering as the would struggle tk get close enough and may have to lean way out of their window to order. The touch screen would also have to work reliably while wet or freezing cold.
Then you've got the issue of someone has to clean it and even with regular cleaning it has a huge potential to spread germs. Ultimately with all the disadvantages i think it would be too slow, too inconvenient, and add extra real estate to the drive thru.

Man, I never used fast food, or drive throughs as much as I have since I developed a mobility disorder. Last week I put a pickup order in at my local coffee shop out of habit, and couldn't carry both my coffee and the breakfast sandwich to my car at the same time. It's crazy how most Americans have absolutely zero concept of just how bad even "good" infrastructure and city design in the US is, or how much better it could be.
They do not contradict each other. I'm certain there will be more stops as the city grows, because they keep improving it. I used to live in a city, in another state, with one of the best public transportation systems in the country, and they also kept improving that system to include the surrounding cities in other counties. Just because something isn't perfect already does not mean we can't take it seriously and strive for perfection

Computer can't understand voices good enough so they think you say something different. For example standard voice to text has failed me for years. Voice control for years and years has still failed me. Using gps? fail every time because the computer or phone in this case thinks i say other words that sound nowhere the same. This is before and after AI. The biggest problem is voice recognition of words. Humans can separate sound and frequency better. Ear drums are better than microphones. Even in quite environments i have a voice that doesn't get translated properly and fails more often than it doesn't. So AI is going to glitch on a lot of voices too because the voice recognition part still works the same flawed way with flawed microphone technology.

And if Orban had worked with EU instead of Russia, Russia is an obvious enemy to Europe including Hungary. Does Orban really want Hungary to become a vassal of Russia again, like Belarus is? Why Hungary would want to work with Russia that has a long history of oppressing Hungary and other Warsaw countries is very weird to put it mildly. Oppression that has even often included military intervention into countries that were supposed to be allied. Hungary wants to enter that sphere again? EU on the contrary has a long history now of working to NOT oppress smaller member states, but work to the advantage of all. Based on freedom and voluntary participation. Working with Russia is inviting chaos to Hungary in so many ways it's ridiculous. So Orban warning about chaos with EU is pure projection, because he is actually speaking of the results of his own policies of working with Russia and against EU. And Hungarians voting for Orban are voting for a return to the conditions as a vassal nation under the Soviet Union. If Hungarians elect Orban again, there's a real chance Hungary can be thrown out of EU!

I've been to multiple museums in Japan (which is somewhat relevant because Nintendo is Japanese) that either flat out ban all photography (e.g. Ghibli Museum, Aomori Museum of Modern Art) or have some exhibits that you're not allowed to take pictures of (e.g. Tokyo National Museum). One exhibit I wanted to take a picture of had a "no photography" sticker on it, but it was on the opposite side from where I approached so I didn't see it, causing staff to run up to me when I pulled out my phone to point out the sign.
I've also heard from other tourists that "no photos" seems to be rather common there.
Btw, I'm not at all saying that they're justified at all, just saying that there are indeed places that forbid photos for copyright reasons. In my opinion, no photo would ever match seeing the exhibits in person so it is entirely pointless to ban them. Even professional, official scans of pieces don't come close.

E ora, come al solito in questa mia vita, sono cazzi. 💔 Chiamatelo magari problema di capacità (mentali), ma il fatto è che non immaginavo si rovinasse in questo modo, perché ignoravo (poi me lo ha spiegato mio padre) che la parte più interna in realtà non è fatta di trucioli schifosi compressati a puntino, bensì di lastre di cartone (praticamente lo stesso dei pacchi, pensate voi che merda) a nido d’ape… o, in altre parole, buona parte dell’interno è aria, non materiale solido, quindi con abbastanza forza (ma neanche chissà quanta, a dire il vero) semplicemente si sfonda; ma, almeno questo va a suo favore, non si spezza, semplicemente va a formarsi un cratere. 😶
Ora forse capisco come si è sentito mio cugino quando, anni e anni fa, dalla rabbia giocando alla PlayStation 4 sbatté il controller a mo’ di martello (tenendolo da un corno e picchiando con quello opposto, insomma) proprio sullo stesso tipo di tavolino, lasciandoci per l’appunto un bel cratere che ricordo con curiosità (mentre il controller non si danneggiò significativamente, lol). Però, se a lui forse si poteva dare la colpa di aver scelto personalmente di impegnarsi in attività videoludiche dannose per lo spirito, quindi arrabbiandosi per via di qualcosa di completamente evitabile… a me in realtà non si è potuto dire chissà cosa, visto che l’incazzamento mi è salito dopo che ho passato quasi un’ora e mezza non riuscendomi ad addormentare, perché si sentivano rumori — che già si sentono di solito, ma stanotte ancora più alti, al punto che il mio solito metodo di stare con la testa tra 2 cuscini non ha funzionato — facendomi per almeno 2 o 3 volte fallire di prendere sonno per pochissimo, alché poi anche col silenzio non sono riuscita a prendere sonno, perché ho accumulato un’incazzatura stratosferica, e, dopo mezz’ora almeno che ho provato a calmarmi aspettando, non ci sono riuscita… e quindi ho preso a pugni il comodino, con l’idea di fare rumore io a mia volta e sfogarmi. 👹
Vabbé, ops, nuovo spacc, ahahah, che ridere… anche se mi secca un po’… Se non altro, sono almeno riuscita a coprire la distruzione, e ristabilire una superficie (quasi) perfettamente piana per i soprammobili, con un foglio plastificato decorativo, però di comprarne un tavolo nuovo non mi va, anche se costa solo 9€ (e, a quanto pare, non lo faranno i miei genitori, perché sul sito di IKEA hanno detto di non aver trovato quello dello stesso colore… evviva?). E comunque… cavolo se è incredibile che io non farei un verso per una vittoria reale persa, ma toglietemi il sonno anche per sbaglio e io immediatamente mi preparo a lanciare le bombe nucleari su tutti i pianeti della nostra galassia…fate molta attenzione. 🕷️
