Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show will return to ABC’s airwaves on Tuesday, nearly a week after it was suspended amid criticism of the host’s remarks about the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
But many households across the U.S. still may not see the show. Sinclair, a company that operates more than 35 ABC affiliates across the U.S., said that it would replace Kimmel with news programming.
“Beginning Tuesday night, Sinclair will be preempting 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' across our ABC affiliate stations and replacing it with news programming. Discussions with ABC are ongoing as we evaluate the show’s potential return,” Sinclair said in a statement.
I used to prefer to go to old.programming.dev/ but this frontend is not working anymore (for a few months I believe). As I get a bad gateway response, hopefully, this is something that could be fixed.

La cosa curiosa, però, è che tutte queste lamentele sembrano di tempi piuttosto recenti. A parte queste con i Google Pixel, che sono notizia fresca di mesi, trovo qualcosa riguardo Samsung (ma sempre solo dalla bocca dei redditor e degli youtuber, quindi prenderei con cautela), ma usando i filtri di Google per cercare in anni già precedenti al 2020 si trova pochissima roba, mentre prima del 2015 non si trova quasi niente. Ci sarebbe a questo punto una teoria interessante da fare, cioè che è il doze di Android che rompe tutto, ma quello è stato introdotto solo una decina di anni fa con Marshmallow (…ricordavo Nougat, mi sbagliavo?), quindi non giustifica un’esplosione di problemi negli ultimissimi anni, specialmente perché chi ha problemi con le sveglie è comunque una minoranza dell’intera base di utenti di Android. Certamente, almeno per Samsung il risparmio energetico dell’OEM potrebbe centrare… 😖

Ladybird Browser
This browser comes from the project "SerenityOS", and has since evolved and separated from it. The founders are Andreas Kling, and Chris Wanstrath. The main goal of this project is to create a browser from scratch, avoiding chromium, gecko, etc. The main keypoints that should be of interest for Privacy Oriented Users are the following:
Ladybird lead (Andreas Kling) states "We're not monetizing users, in any way. This is uncharted territory for browsers. So we're not going to do any default search deals. We're not going to do cryptocurrencies or try to monetize user data, just sponsorships and donations"
While** Ladybird will implement current web standards including cookie handling and tracking mechanisms for compatibility**, the browser's philosophy puts the user in control of these decisions, not the company. The browser won't have built-in incentives to encourage data collection since it doesn't profit from it.
It aims to be "free from advertising's influence" Ladybird, representing a shift away from the current web ecosystem where users like us are the product. This allows the project to implement privacy features without worrying about harming advertising partners or revenue streams.
As of now, the project has hired several developers with money coming from donations, from partners such as FUTO, Shopify, Cloudflare, among many, and is also seeing lots of volunteer activity on github. Hi, as you can from see from my previous posts I installed Linux in all my machines. Now I have a PC with an I5 6500 (with Mint on it) and I'm upgrading the GPU. So, do I just open it put the new one and connect the cables? Or do I have to do some thing first? Thank you for all your help.
You don't need to change drivers strictly, just add the new ones then remove the old ones later. It's just to avoid having issues with display output on your first boot - although you should pretty much always get some video out even without the correct drivers
Really only depends on how new the new GPU is vs. how old the Kernel is.
example: If you're running Debian Stable and trying to put in an RTX 5090, you'll likely have a bad time, since neither the kernel nor Mesa support blackwell on Trixie without backporting.
If you're using a rolling release distro, just update first but you'll probably be fine already. If you're using a point release distro, make sure that release supports your hardware first.

Not strictly true any more. There are Nvidia open drivers, but they may not be in Debian yet. In fact, Nvidia recommend using the open drivers for cards it supports, which if I recall correctly, is Turing and newer.
You're thinking of firmware, not drivers. To make a GPU work, you need new enough versions of the kernel, driver and firmware. The open source drivers for Nvidia GPUs are still slower and less featureful than the proprietary ones.
As a double check (or check before buying) you can search for your new GPU on linux-hardware.org/ to see if other users have it working without any issues. The hardware probe is also a handy tool to share your PC's specs if you should ever need to do so!
You didn't say which GPU! If it's all AMD, then just replace. That's what I did and everything worked fine. If you're going from AMD to Nvidia, them install the Nvidia drivers first, turn it off, replace, turn back on

I spent much of today trying to get WinApps running on NixOS. The VM performance is meh after following all the setup steps in the documentation, and I can't get the RDP part working. I'm not asking for help, which would probably take lots of back and forth commenting. but if I should even try to continue. The steps don't even mention Nix, only how to install dependencies via package managers.
I tried finding videos of Photoshop in WinApps but didn't find any, to see what performance actually looks like. Would it even be decent, or should I just suck it up and do GPU passthrough? Ideally I'd like Photoshop a window part of my linux desktop instead of switching back and forth between OSes. Making something work has been a PITA so far.
Winapps do not make passthrough of GPU or there is no hardware acceleration it rendering in software way only basically if u are using even podman or docker or libvirtd in the end it qemu with windows in which u connect by rdp.

You seem to be a bit more advanced than I am, I have only ever used kritas version of smart objects, & perspective distort, but I don't know about the others you mentioned.
Winapps is too slow for gpu-heavy apps, like photoshop actually is.
So I went with Gimp 3. It does everything I need. Gimp 2.10 didn't, but the new version, 3, does. Sure it has quirks: e.g. when selecting a layer with bg transparency, it selects the whole layer (including the empty parts) instead of just the parts that aren't empty -- you need to do layers -> alpha to selection to get the contents. Another one: to get transparency when you delete parts of a layer is to add an alpha channel to that layer (otherwise you get a bg color). But if you learn these few quirks, Gimp does everything photoshop does pretty much.
If you have old PSD files that have adjustment layers or smart objects, pass them via Photopea, and export as TIFF. Then load on Gimp3 and move to that for life.
I'm actually a Photoshop and CSP users that regularly report missing features to Krita and GIMP. Even Krita dev often ask community which featuers they want from CSP. Some example that GIMP and Krita does not have that I remember: - 3D environment (available on CSP and PS) - flexible several document views (only on CSP) - adjustable anchor resize (only on CSP)

For years, little was known about how Ice uses Palantir’s technology. The company has consistently described itself as a “data processor” and says it does not play an active role in any of its customers’ data collection efforts or what clients do with that information.
Now, a cache of internal Ice documents – including hundreds of pages of emails between Ice and Palantir, as well as training manuals, and reports on the use of Palantir products – offer some of the first real-world examples of how Ice has used Palantir in its investigations and during on-the-ground enforcement operations.
The documents, which were obtained by immigrant legal rights group Just Futures Law through a Freedom of Information Act request and reviewed by the Guardian, largely cover Palantir’s contract with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the investigative arm of Ice that is responsible for stopping the “illegal movement of people, goods, money, contraband, weapons and sensitive technology”.
Palantir recently won a $30m contract to build the government a new platform called ImmigrationOS that will service Ice branches beyond HSI, and aims to “streamline” the identification and deportation of immigrants. While the documents are largely limited to HSI’s operations, it’s easy to see how the tools could be of use to other branches of Ice.

I've made test torrents before and noticed that none of them seemed to be downloadable. Seeding the test torrents on a VPS of mine with a public IP has surprisingly worked before.
I can download and upload in my torrent client just fine, so I know my ISP isn't (intentionally) blocking and firewalling torrents.
Unless they let you do some kind of port forwarding, or you tunnel your traffic over a VPN that allows port forwarding, not possible.
I suppose you could also add an http source to the torrent, or set up a seedbox somewhere and preload the content, either by direct upload or by manually adding the seedbox as a peer.

It's not ideal, you won't be able to seed/upload to any other firewalled (non port forwarded) peers.
But technically any connectable (port forwarded) peers connecting to you will still be able to download from you, so you'd still be able to seed in that sense. That does mean you're only initial seeding to peers that have their own ports open/forwarded.

Yup that would work fine, you can participate in torrent swarms that contain other connectable peers and that's usually how most torrent swarms are. You'll probably have trouble with the random low seed torrents e.g. a torrent with one lone seed who also has no ports open, that seed won't be able to send you any torrent data.
If your box isn't globally addressable (because of NAT), your box can't be connected to. It works one way only, from the inside out - because the NAT-router keeps track of the connections your box makes to globally addressable hosts and forwards reply packages back to your box.
You could use IPv6 which because of the vast amounts of ipv6-addresses, eliminates the need for NAT. Or you could use a VPN or a tunneling service which gives you a dedicated IP. Or port forwarding from a globally addressable host. Either self hosted or as a service. Switch to an ISP which doesn't do CGNAT.
In short: ipv6 is easiest.😀
Edit: does anybody know if a non addressable seed box gets info about interested and globally addressable peers somehow (either tracker or tracker-less) so it can initiate a TCP connection to those peers? Are there resources to read up in that topic?
While I agree with the overall premise, it's not a great article. The author just quotes facts while drawing no relevant conclusions or wrong conclusions.
The fact that there is fraud in Estonia, like any other country, is, I imagine, due to people being stupid. In my country most fraud cases are grandmas handing off their pensions to randos to help their grandchild escape prison or to help with a super secret government mission to catch thieves. Similar to the classic Nigerian prince schemes. Not once does the author mention how digital ID's are connected to fraud or how they enabled money laundering.
I hope that the author is just not that great of a writer and not malicious because throwing in scary statistics and names like Palantir without making any conclusion as to how digital ID's could exarcebate the problem, really feels like fearmongering.

For the first time, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has acknowledged that israel is committing a genocide in Gaza, this morning at her daily press conference. Previously when questioned during her Mañaneras del Pueblo, the morning press conferences she holds, she referred to it as a “war,” and used more neutral language, despite Mexico signing on to both the International Court of Justice and International Criminal Court cases against israel in 2024.
“We have supported, from President López Obrador and now all the complaints that have been presented together with the Chilean government regarding the situation in Gaza and the entire position, in agreement with the international community, is to stop this genocide in Gaza. That is our position,” she said.
“We want the genocide in Gaza to stop. There can be no aggression against the civilian population.”

I must say, it was totally worth it (and done with simplest kitchen tools and a bottle of some veterinarian drug containing iodine). With lager profile as blank canvas, this process is pretty much a show-off of what people should be really doing to make them lagers interesting.
Absolutely, it is very hard to miss. And it is easier than infusion the way people do it usually, just takes way more (passive) time. Equipment-wise, having nothing is default too, which is nice.
That's why I was calling it Märzenfest half year ago. Apparently, or at least the books say so, they were brewing this all winter, for same reasons I do this. But sure, the later brews were probably the ones that mostly survived the thrist period.
Direct buy grain from farmers. They often dump and compost the stuff, seriously, while children in Africa, you know, but shipping is often more expensive and processers have minimum amounts, farming is no charity (it really is, at prices we pay for food). Hops are hard though. Like all spice, they are either premium quality, or useless. And demand is higher than supply globally. But I'm pretty sure there are local substitutes everywhere, it might deviate from what we call beer, but what the heck why not?
There have been quite a few other herbs that have been used in Brewing before. Iyy is one from circa 1st millenium, the one that is used in abstinenth has been another.
I have a lot of yarrow growing wild, I think that might even be good. Burdock root has an interesting taste. I am not so delicate that I cannot experiment and not enjoy something that is less than it would be if hops.

The ABC late-night host is returning to broadcast on Tuesday following a brief-but-monumental suspension that sparked a national debate over the Trump Administration’s pressure tactics and the modern limits and consequences of free speech.
“Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country,” ABC parent The Walt Disney Company said in a statement Monday. “It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive. We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.”

Consigli pratici per avviare la campagna
Scegli un’istanza privata o crea la tua
Se la privacy è importante, opta per un’istanza che permetta account “protetti” o “solo follower”.
Creare la tua istanza (ad es. su un VPS) ti dà il controllo totale su chi può registrarsi e su quali plugin/bot abilitare.
Definisci una convenzione di hashtag
Usa un tag unico, ad esempio #RPGCampagnaX, per raggruppare tutti i turni.
Puoi aggiungere sotto‑tag come #TurnoGiocatoreA o #EventoCritico.
Integra un bot per i tiri di dado
Molti bot ActivityPub (es. DiceRoller, RPG‑Bot) rispondono a comandi tipo !roll 2d6+3.
Su Misskey o Mastodon è semplice aggiungere il bot come “followed account” e menzionarlo nei post.
Usa le reazioni per decisioni rapide
Un semplice “👍” può significare “approvo”, “👎” “rifiuto”, “🤔” “chiedo chiarimenti”.
In Misskey puoi persino creare reazioni personalizzate (es. un dado).
Mantieni un “log” centrale
Sulla stessa piattaforma, crea un post “pinned” o una pagina wiki (su Hubzilla) che riepiloga gli eventi principali, i personaggi e le regole della campagna.

La mia raccomandazione

i'd be tempted to brush this off as the website being malicious and lying to get me to deactivate fingerprinting protection, but the website is fully open-source and what they describe happened to me on Piskel (a pixel art editor, which would constantly mess up my colors in subtle but annoying ways)

fingerprinting mechanisms use pixel coloring to help fingerprint you. browsers have implementations that fuzz pixel colors to prevent this fingerprinting often in imperceptible manner. Think shifting pixel alpha values by a random +/- 0.3 values; range was arbitrarily chosen for demonstration purposes.
Every computer will generate different colors due to driver/os/hardware differences when rendering anything. these differences are often imperceptible to the eye by easily grabbed via browser apis. by randomizing the results just a tad it defeats the trackers.
It's a two part process. One part happens on your machine. The browser is given a fingerprint to shift colors, and then the trackers can identify you even in a screenshot.
This sent me down a rabbit hole; interesting stuff.
The way I'm understanding this: the way an image is rendered depends on lots of different factors like browser, OS, graphics card etc, plus other bits like fonts and anti-aliasing settings. Each persons set up is unique so an image rendering on that browser on that device will be unique. So to fingerprint and track someone, they get your browser to generate a reference image then extract the details of the created pixels from the memory and generate an MD5 hash which is then unique to your browser. That's your fingerprint and every time a site generates the reference image it produces the same MD5 hash. That is then used to track you.
So an anti-fingerprinting technique is to throw in a very subtle randomness to the colours generated in the image, which results in a unique MD5 each time the test is run making it useless for people tracking you (you are essentially a "new" browser every time a site tries to fingerprint you). So if you have #000000 for black, instead it may randomise to #000003 one time, and #002000 next. It's a very subtle variance on the colours so won't be readily perceptible but on images rendered and shown to you this would create very subtle noise. Hence the warning for a graphics tool; the makers are aware this effects how their tool works and are warning you incase you notice the results.

I find this interesting also. Enabling fingerprinting resistance a) makes every site light mode by default and b) when ssh-ing into my VMs on Proxmox (LXCs not affected), stops me from sending underscores and other symbols.
because a) your browser does not send anymore which color scheme you prefer and b) probably sets a single keymap or language setting that affect websites that try to grab your keys.
add the proxmox domain to the whitelist and it will be better. there's a pref for it that I can't recall now but mayne it can be configured in this menu too: support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/f… let me know if it didn't fix it and I'll look up the pref

Democrats maintained a wary silence on Monday as Donald Trump’s Republican party appeared galvanised by a memorial service for the late rightwing activist Charlie Kirk that was part religious revival, part political rally.
Nearly 100,000 people filled an American football stadium and overflow arena in Glendale, Arizona, on Sunday to pay tribute to Kirk, according to his his organisation Turning Point USA. The 31-year-old staunch Trump ally was shot dead on 10 September.
The service was a show of force that blended politics with relihad gion, putting Christian nationalism at the heart of Trump’s “Make America great again” (Maga) movement. It also cast Kirk as a martyr who could be a rallying point in future elections. “Today is the day democrats lost 2028,” posted Meghan McCain, the daughter of the late Republican senator John McCain.
Kirk’s widow, Erika, earned widespread praise for a tearful address in which she said she forgives the man charged with her husband’s killing. She told the crowd: “My husband, Charlie, he wanted to save young men, just like the one who took his life. I forgive him.”
Providing just enough veneer from a single speaker to pretend this event had anything approaching conservative values.
