“Racconti Bre”: l’arte della brevità secondo Alimberto Torri
Il libro Racconti Bre di Alimberto Torri è un piccolo custode di retorica, psicologia, humor e sagaci metafore. Una raccolta che non si lascia leggere con leggerezza, perché invita il lettore a scrutare nelle pieghe più complesse dell’animo umano.
Non è una lettura semplice, e questo è il suo pregio. Alcuni brani mi hanno costretto a fermarmi, a rileggere più volte, non certo per mancanza di chiarezza, ma per l’intensità che li pervade. È il tipo di scrittura che non lascia scampo: chiede attenzione, chiede tempo.
Ho domandato all’autore quanto impegno avesse richiesto un lavoro così denso, e la sua risposta racconta molto del senso del libro:
“Ogni racconto breve si fonda su studi di psicologia, sociologia e filosofia. Per molti mi sono dovuto documentare e studiare il particolare modo di essere e di vivere di alcuni gruppi sociali. Ogni racconto ha almeno due livelli di lettura: quello letterale e quello metaforico. Ma si può arrivare anche a quattro: letterale, metaforico, simbolico e anagogico. So perfettamente che per arrivare a quello anagogico bisogna fare un po’ di fatica, ma è quella fatica lì che ti apre la mente a nuove possibilità di conoscenza. Non sono racconti da una notte: l’intento è far riflettere, e la riflessione ha i suoi tempi. ‘Il regno dei cieli è come il chicco di senape’.”
Parole che chiariscono il cuore del progetto: Racconti Bre non vuole intrattenere, ma stimolare. Non punta a distrarre, ma a guidare.
La tradizione del racconto breve.
La forma del racconto breve, spesso sottovalutata dai lettori che prediligono i grandi romanzi, ha in realtà una lunga e nobile tradizione. Da Edgar Allan Poe, che teorizzò l’unità d’effetto in ogni singolo racconto, a Italo Calvino, che con le sue Cosmicomiche seppe condensare l’universo in poche pagine, la brevità non è mai sinonimo di semplicità.
Come scriveva Anton Čechov: “La brevità è sorella del talento”. In poche pagine si può racchiudere un mondo, ed è ciò che Torri sembra voler dimostrare con le sue “chicche letterarie”, piccole schegge di umanità pronte a far sorridere, ma anche a far riflettere.
Una lettura per il presente
In queste storie, Alimberto Torri sembra lanciare un messaggio attualissimo: “L’AI non potrà fare ogni cosa!”
Un’affermazione che si colloca nel cuore del dibattito contemporaneo. Può la tecnologia sostituire la profondità di un pensiero, la complessità di un’emozione, la metafora che unisce logica e poesia? Forse no, e l’autore sembra sperare con forza che la risposta resti negativa.
Vivere è un racconto breve
Racconti Bre si legge come un piccolo manifesto esistenziale: la vita stessa è breve, ricca di emozioni e contraddizioni, proprio come i racconti che la rappresentano.
Un volume che invita il lettore a rallentare, a lasciarsi interrogare e sorprendere. Perché ogni parola, come un chicco di senape, porta con sé il potenziale di un intero mondo.

Anyway, let me tell you, ever since I moved to the PNW I suffer from hemorrhoids. One time it got extremely bad. I applied devil's club and within a few minutes I wasn't feeling pins and needles itchiness down in my butt hole. That's one, but two I kept applying it a few times over a month like I do with preparation H and the hemorrhoids are gone! I mean I'm not going to go eat a ghost pepper pie any day but holy moly. I also treated a rash on my neck and groin that kept expanding and I thought was cancer and I was going to die of. I'm not saying don't go see a doctor, go see a doctor for any of this. But I'm just posting a PSA. At least some of the tourist trap bs about this plant is true or has some technology behind it that the big pharma hasn't been able to distill and eliminate.
I'm not a wako crazy person but I did go vegan recently to stop contributing to animal pain and suffering and to prevent heart decease and obesity in my self... This change did not make me loose weight or cure my hemorrhoids.
On the topic of hemorrhoids, let me explain I'm gory details what I think triggers those things in me. Any time I eat pizza or jalapeños, peronchini, jalapeño pickles, onions, tomatoes, I get a hemorrhoid. You'll be walking around and suddenly feel a little itch in your butt hole. In the shower you can explored that itch with your finger. It turns out to start like a pimple on the interior skin of your butt hole. It slowly, over a period of days gets bigger and eventually surprises you by popping out when you're popping. Red bloody stools galore. You'll have bloddy stools for a while. The popping can range from just seeing blood to super painful, you wanna be done with this existence pain. The worst part is cleaning with toilet paper. The little polips feel like a tiny pimple inside very thin skin. That polio eventually grows into a little sack that hangs outside your butt hole and then one day pops.
Look I'm sorry to have to describe all that, but it's true and hopefully someone benefits from this technology. Now, a day or two after applying the devils club you'll feel no different, but in the shower you can explore the polips and the darn thing get smaller and smaller until they're gone.
Once I discovered this, which prep H doesn't really do, I decided to just roll with this. So yeah, I applied that stuff a few times a week for some month and then I forgot. I forgot to apply and I forgot those pesky little pins and needles sobs. This morning I was reading up about it so I thought I should post on here.

I want to ask for some opinions on my current setup and how I pretend to use it for my Media Server:
Current Layout
I currently use an UGREEN DXP2800 NAS running TrueNAS Scale with two 4 TB HDDs in Mirror mode. This is planned to be my "long-term storage" for backups, photos, and so on.
Additionally, I have 1 TB SSD installed in the system. I created two datasets on it: one for Docker containers and the other one for Media, following the TRaSH guides folder layout
My current plan:
My idea is to use the SSD for the torrents and the seeds, and once the file (e.g. the ~~movie ~~ Linux ISO Image) is completed, to move it to the HDDs. From there, Jellyfin would read the corresponding dataset and play the media.
The question:
The TRaSH guides puts a lot of emphasis on hardlinks and atomic moves, and that forces you to operate in one single filesystem. Is it worth it to stick to the TRaSH guide or my current setup would work just fine? What do y'all think?
TRaSH guides don't actually force you into using one filesystem. I have Sonarr setup using the guide and it uses 2 separate drives just fine.
One thing I would note is that because of the emphasis on quality above all else, following the guides strictly would fill up your drives fairly quickly. If you were to re-prioritize the config to emphasize small file size, you could probably fit 3-4x as much content on there.
The first requirement is that all your media files and folders be in the same file system. Everything must be contained on a single physical or virtual drive
if it's still possible to create hardlinks between the SSD and the Mirrored HDDs, I will go that route.
Something that I noticed people seem to not realize with trash guides is that you can always customize it a bit.
I disabled remux on mine sonarr/radarr and I also set a slightly lower max file size for encodes and webdl. Still grabs the good quality stuff to me based on the curated groups from trash guides.

What is your reasoning for using the SSD for torrents? Just put the torrents on the HDD(s). Having them on the SSD has no benefits whatsoever and is a waste of an ssd.
I was considering using the SSD to avoid wear and tear in the HDD because of the nature of the torrent downloads. My idea was using the SSD as a temporary/cache drive for the download itself, and then only executing one transfer move to the HDD once the media is completed. Drive noise was another concern, since my NAS sits in my living room and I want to avoid hearing the drives spinning constantly.
I am using two Seagate Ironwolf HDD, which are NAS certified. Will they suffer if I use them for downloading as well as seeding?
As an idea, I use an SSD as a "Default Download Directory" within qBittorrent itself, and then qB automatically moves it to a HDD when the download is fully finished. I do this because I want the write to be sequential going into my ZFS pool, since ZFS has no defragmentation capabilities.
Hardlinks are only important if you want to continue seeding the media in its original form and also have a cleaned-up/renamed copy in your Jellyfin library. If you're going to continue to seed from the HDD, it doesn't matter that the initial download is done on the SSD. The *arr stack will make the hardlink only after the download is finished.

US politics has been pretty fascist lately. The state is filling up concentration camps, engaging in mass state violence against people on the basis of racialized traits, deporting them to random countries without any respect for habeas corpus, exerting state pressure on the free press to censor speech critical of the current administration, and Trump is openly floating the idea of an unconstitutional third term.
Fascism is clearly on the rise, and they’re winning more and more power. None of this is far removed from us in the FOSS community – there are a number of fascists working in FOSS, same as the rest of society. I don’t call them fascists baselessly – someone who speaks out in support of and expresses solidarity with fascists, or who uses fascists dog-whistles or promotes fascist ideology and talking points, or boosts fascist conspiracy theories – well, they’re a fascist.
If one consistently speaks in support of a certain political position and against the opponents of that position then it is correct to identify them with this political position. Facts, as it were, don’t care about feelings, namely the feelings that get hurt when someone is called a fascist. Fascists naturally do not want to be identified as such and will reject the label, but we shouldn’t take their word for it. People should be much more afraid of being called out as fascist than they are afraid of calling someone a fascist. If someone doesn’t want to be called a fascist, they shouldn’t act like one.
It’s in this disturbing political context that I saw an odd post from the Cloudflare blog pop up in my circles this week: Supporting the future of the open web: Cloudflare is sponsoring Ladybird and Omarchy. Based on Ladybird’s sponsorship terms we can assume that these projects received on the order of $100,000 USD from Cloudflare. I find this odd for a few reasons, in particular because one thing that I know these two projects have in common is that they are both run by fascists.
Even at face value this is an unusual pair of projects to fund. I’m all for FOSS projects getting funded, of course, and I won’t complain about a project’s funding on the solitary basis that it’s an odd choice. I will point out that these are odd choices, though, especially Omarchy...
i will continue to say that kling is just a pretty offline guy, and also very much unaware/uninterested in america. most people around me are saying the same things about the kirk shooting and i would not consider them even close to what americans would probably call "centrists", but here is called "right-wingers". people here had just never heard of him or any of his opinions before last week.
kilng strikes me as a man who has never had politics happen to him before he started working in open source, and he is being treated like he shares american values and american cultural knowledge just because he speaks english online.

Interpreting a PR which changes "he" to "they" as pushing political ideology is not an apolitical stance. I don't know a ton about him and I'm not convinced this makes him a "fascist" by association, but the fact that he seems to be ideologically aligned with the ones in power on America is troubling at the very least.
so i've talked about that event at length before and i don't have the time to dig up my old comments right now but the short version is 1) sweden has a weird history with gendered pronouns in that our english language higher education recommended using male pronouns up until very recently, and the language itself just recently got a gender-neutral one which still isn't in general use. 2) the documentation was rewritten to use second-person pronouns (and a much friendlier tone) shortly after, sidestepping the entire discussion.
I hope many more debate nerds carry on his quest to engage young people with words, not fists.
This implies Kirk was a debate nerd. He wasn't. He was a prolific propagandist with a vast, well-funded operation. He pretended to debate here or there in-between monologues of fascist propaganda. TV pundits aren't the people who you want to look up to as bearers of objectivity on the matter, given they're threatened with being taken off the air. It's no accident they talk about the person but don't talk about what he said or wrote. Maybe Kling is mislead by them. Maybe not.
the media here has never shown any kirk debate, and has only talked about him as a "american right-wing debater/influencer". personally i was aware of him only as that too, and only saw how heinous his opinions actually were when i googled him after the event. and i, along with most other swedes, have a fairly high regard for our public broadcasting institutions, and since most american internal squabbles don't influence us until they become external, we don't really care to dig deeper. i did because i'm active here, but kling probably didn't.

This is a silly argument. There are killings that make international news. There are killings that make Swedish news. He doesn't comment on any of them, only when a far right agitator dies in America is it suddenly important to him.
At the risk of being callous and blunt, the international news has been covering the killing of tens of thousands of Gazans for over a year now (soon to be 2). They have also covered the Ukrainian civilians getting drone struck (striked?) for close to 3 years now. The flash floods in Pakistan a few years ago that literally turned half of the country blue as seen from satellite images because of how much water there was were also all over the news. The Hamas higher ranks getting killed by exploding pagers in civilian areas (with heavy collateral damage) was also all over the news in western countries, at the very least.
To be clear, I don't know if the ladybird dev has said anything on any of these issues. I just want to assert that plenty of killings make international news. Charlie Kirk was not the first nor the exception, what was new with him was that he was named, a far-right agitator, and had an existing (para-)social following. All of which cast a poor light, for me, on this being what someone chooses to speak up on.

The post suggests that Cloudflare is donating $100k to Omarchy, but no figure is given by Cloudflare. Cloudflare’s press release reads more services in kind for an open source project— something many tech firms already offer without a check on the politics of the maintainers first.
At the very least, someone celebrating Charlie Kirk and whining about white men being discriminated against is not someone I'm interested in supporting, and if the future of the open web is in their hands I'll just stick to lynx.
The good news is that ladybird is nowhere even close to implementing the full web. It’s maybe 0.5% there. There’s no danger of it becoming some centralized power at least in the next 5 years. Especially barring any license shenanigans.

Some politicians or activists unfortunately use hyperbole too frequently and sometimes even maliciously. It gets them attention but at the cost of deepening the trenches in the political discourse. Where the term "woke" is basically the right wing equivalent term to the left's "fascist".

If we want to use the Nazi bar analogy, Cloudflare is like a company that bought up so many bars in town that some end up not vetting for Nazism well enough, letting it slip through, not necessarily playing favours towards or against fascism but they would technically be a 'Nazi bar' under the analogy's definition. Cloudflare is so big that they probably don't have controlling interest about the pet projects they kick some pennies towards.

Personally I use a blend of hand-hardened Firefox (Via plugins), Librewolf and Ungoogled Chromium (for very rare cases where the site is actually trusted and requires Chrome to function predictably)
It does block some tracking and ads that Chrome alone allows or explicitly adds. But it simply shifts that tracking to Brave. The idea was that you'd still get the benefits of that tracking by giving all of your data to Brave instead. I honestly never was convinced by this considering your data is still being sold, just by a different company so it doesn't sound much better to me. Supposedly, according to them, Brave is more trustworthy and gives you more control over what they track and sell, but I don't trust that business model. There's no real incentive for them to do what they said they would.
It's a shame this is necessary, to be honest. It's the same argument with Windows users: "you can just run a debloater and fiddle with the registry to disable tracking". It shouldn't be needed in the first place.
I don't think you can say the same as MS plays shitty cat and mouse games and is constantly patching the workarounds. And the changes required are much more involved than just toggling a switch. And Brave won't randomly toggle it back on after an update or just blatantly ignore it altogether.
Depends on what you mean by "private". I would not trust it much, but it's not a bad Chromium based browser when you need one. Use something like LibreWolf for much more privacy out of the box.

Don't a lot of browsers by default have pings set up to track usage? Check the privacy section. There is usually a check box about sending daily pings to whatever company made the browser to track usage.
Any browser does it, it is needed for several reasons, every browser need to know the amount of users it has to calculate it's market share. But statistical telemetries are not a privacy issue, it's like an employee which count the amount of cars and trucks on a highway, to know if it is needed to enlarge the highway or not. A browser need to know it for its capacity of servers and sync, if they offer it. Normally the telemetries includes in which OS is used the browser and in which country, all this is legit and not a privacy problem.
Bad only when it also include logs and profiling of user data and activity, as Chrome and EDGE do, and worse if this is sold to third parties. Decent browser don't do it.

I've never really had a comfortable feeling about Brave. I have no substantiating evidence, it just seems a bit squirrely. AFAIK at least in the EU because have to admit also browsers with a different engine as WebKit. WebKit is same as Blink a fork from the KHTML engine by KDE, butway less advanced as Blink or Gecko, who outscore WebKit in modern webformats. It's not so easy to go full OpenSource for an Chromium browser which is more an online suite than a simple browser, because Google and M$ will kill to be able to fork it for Chrome and EDGE, which will have catastrophic aftermaths for all other Chromium browsers, include Vivaldi. Way easier to be OpenSource for simpler Chromium or Gecko forks. What browser should I use on mobile? I use Librewolf on desktop since it runs fine, and the vertical tabs are great, and it looks nice.
On mobile though there's a lot of problems with the browser space:
Chrome: runs great but is obviously not good for privacy
Firefox: what most people recommend, but it has terrible performance, looks not great, and doesn't even have more than basic fingerprinting protection, and literally includes ads by default. It's also less secure on Android because they don't do per site process isolation, and the memory allocator is worse.
Brave: people tend to dislike brave here, but it runs well (since it's chromium based) and has at least better fingerprinting protection.
Tbh firefox performs great and works for me, and its issues can be fixed with extensions and settings, both on desktop and mobile. I never looked for anything else myself. I also like to use a browser that is not chromium-based, I do not want google to have the monopoly.
maybe I am just not picky, but if you need more privacy than what can be achieved with a hardened firefox config you might be better off using TOR at that point.

Sto continuando a leggere Sailor Moon, per farmi forza con la realtà terribile del nostro mondo reale e, nel mentre che (sull’altro blog) sto tentando anche di scrivere a riguardo dei vari capitoli, nell’8 una robina mi ha attirato l’attenzione… La scrivo qui perché nel contesto dell’altro articolo non centrava tanto, e comunque non lo volevo allungare più del dovuto solo per approfondire una lore che non è quella del manga in questione, bensì della mia persona. 😼 Si sapeva già che io sono abbastanza simile a Usagi… dormo, zzz, non sento la sveglia, pure a metà giornata sono assolutamente fatta drogata di sonno, e così via… e poi ok, a scuola non ero troppo ceppona, ma all’università si, quindi il cerchio già così si chiude quasi. La gran differenza sta nella nostra caratterizzazione come ragazze magiche (così come la differenza tra lei e le altre guerriere sue alleate, naturalmente), perché per ora io non ho sbloccato alcun potere psichedelico stupefacente, e piuttosto tutte e sole le magie effettive, dimostrabili, che io riesco a fare riguardano il software… ma non è questo il punto. 😳

I've tried 2 different Windows cracks I found -- the FileCR 2023b crack, and the AppDoze 2025a crack. Both look legit to me but in both cases I get the exact same issue: With my computer offline, following the readmes, I mount the iso, run setup.exe, select "I have a File Installation Key", enter said key, and get this error: "Unable to load product files. Product files must be in the same folder as the input file. For help getting the product files, see the installation documentation on MATLAB Answer" which links to mathworks.com/matlabcentral/an… which is clear as mud.
I tried 0ing out the key and confirmed that it recognizes when you give it a bad key, so the key in the crack is still detected as a valid key, that's probably not the issue.

I should be able to use the installer (once logged in) to download files without installing, then go offline and use the file installation key. However, the option to download files without installing is all greyed out.
That looks super cool but I do think I specifically need Matlab since that's what I've prototyped some ideas in already (I have an old crack but there are some new specialized toolboxes I want to use or at least try out which require a new version of matlab which these cracks claim to have and I don't see an equivalent in SciLab).
Basically, if I can get a new crack of Matlab working to use the new toolboxes, I can rapidly iterate through and test some ideas. If not, I was going to have to dig into some other open source tools which is going to be way more effort.
Or Python. Nobody uses MATLAB because they will basically sequester your research data and experiments behind a pay wall.
These days you look for a new device for your lab, experiment or production and you look for the Python interface. No Python interface? GTFO then good luck selling anything.
Exactly. And employers never want to buy enough seats. There is always someone using it. Matplotlib will make the same MATLAB graphics. I am a MATLAB ninja and my Python sucks, but MATLAB can eat a dick for the aforementioned reasons.
OK the toolboxes can be difficult to find 1:1 replacements for, but you can find plugins for most things in SciLab so you don't need to reinvent the wheel. The general workflow is very similar to MATLAB, but not identical so there is of course a learning curve. Everyone I know is more or less weaning off MATLAB because it's just too damn expensive and locked to their platform.

It's for a musical project. I wanted a very specific effect applied to some vocals I sang. I couldn't find any tools that did what I wanted, asked on various forums over the years but every pre-built tool someone recommended failed to achieve the effect I was imagining. Out of frustration I ended up writing something myself in Matlab to postprocess a vocal line I recorded and I quite liked the results! (And I know I could have used Python for that but I like Matlab.

But then I decided I wanted to experiment with applying that effect in real-time, which would mean creating my own audio unit and throwing it into my DAW, and went looking for ways to make one. Turns out Matlab's got a command for it since 2022b! mathworks.com/help/audio/audio… so if I could get my hands on it, that would be by far the easiest and quickest way to experiment more with it.
I learned a couple days ago that there are open source tools designed for making AUs -- Cabbage, Faust -- but I've never used them. Since I already have the Matlab code and am familiar with Matlab, I thought it would be nice to just use that toolbox for a quick first pass. It probably wouldn't take long to port it to pyhon, but I've found no Python libraries that can generate an audio unit (without wrapping around what's in the next sentence, which is extra work). There's a C++ library called JUCE that can but I find C++ frustrating and don't have a good dev environment set up for it anymore.

UPDATE: Installing Deno and installing yt-dlp through PyPi fixes yt-dlp but the very idea that Google is mandating JS to lock down YT in an attempt at pseudo-DRM is still crappy.

I doubt it. Bandwidth and storage costs for distributed video on the scale of YouTube isn’t going to happen without some kind of monetisation beyond stray donations.

That's precisely the trick. Don't try to copy Youtube. You're gonna lose. And it's not the Peertube intended use case anyway.
Instead, Peertube and other such platforms should work as cross-indexing domain-specific, configuration-specific video galleries. A retro videogame video archive does not need 4K 120fps Dobly 14.3 audio; they can just encode most of everything in 480i 30fps and their storage costs will go down significantly. A news report / news reel archive can save some costs by encoding as SDR (or even lower) with ~80kbps mono MP3 audio or somesuch, since most of everything past the intro jingle is human voice.
Play to your advantages. Trying to break into a monopoly game where the rules are broken, the only other player is broken, and the entry fees are broken is self-defeating.

Yes indeed - this is great idea and probably the only way a "web scale" distributed video service can work - unfortunately this doesn't quite exist yet. Even mature implementations like Mastodon have hard time dealing with "global" free text searching (or any kind of taxonomy). But maybe that's the idea that starts a truly free web!

Opus would have MP3 beat for speech at lower bitrates as per the HydrogenAudio KB, Opus is transparent for speech at 32kbit/s with stereo speech being transparent at 40kbit/s. Beyond that, a typical bitrate for Opus audio on YT is something like 150kbit/s and that codec is transparent for music at 160-192kbit/s. Point being if one works in spoken word and they want to save as much space and bandwidth as possible while still sounding reasonable, 40-48kbit/s Opus would be the ideal audio codec for that as it would give transparent speech at half the bitrate of the 80kbit/s MP3 that's quoted here.
To directly quote the HydrogenAudio KB article on Opus:
32kbit/s CELT encoding gives you: Essentially transparent speech plus moderately good stereo music
40kbit/s CELT encoding gives you: Essentially transparent mono or stereo speech, fairly good stereo music
48kbit/s CELT encoding gives you: Essentially transparent mono or stereo speech, reasonable music
You're getting basically transparent speech at a bit over half the bitrate of 80kbit/s MP3 or less, and even with music, Opus like I said is transparent for music at 160-192kbit/s according to the same KB article I'm quoting, while MP3 needs 320kbit/s CBR for transparency for music, although if I'm transcoding FLAC files to Opus, I normally just max out the codec at 510kbit/s where MP3's transparency bitrate of 320kbit/s is also the bitrate it maxes out at.
The only good reason IMO why one should use MP3 in 2025 when better codecs exist, both lossy and lossless, is when the device they're targeting is so old or crappy that it can't support anything better than MP3.

I whore myself out and pay for the family plan, but I have a good reason.
My dad watches YT almost exclusively so I told him if he shared his password with me I can add him to my plan so he doesn’t see any ads. He fell for it. Now I login into his account ever so often and mark “not interested” on any red pill bullshit I see. It seems to be working.
Vinegar is a Safari extension that replaces the YouTube player with a minimal HTML video tag.
It removes ads, restores picture-in-picture, and keeps videos playing in the background.
I don't think Brave has any special magic that other browsers don't.
My understanding is, all the workarounds in use recently work or fail depending on the IP address you have.
I don't know anything about this change but it seems to simply require a JS engine in your client. Any browser has that, so the browser addons probably aren't effected by this change.
However, it's clear that YT is waging an incremental campaign here. Today it's yt-dlp, next week... who knows.
Again, I think it’s mostly because it’s iOS - but Brave seems to be the only browser that allows both Picture-in-Picture and background play while also blocking ads.
Both Safari and Firefox display ads, and struggle with PiP.

Slightly over dramatized. This happens basically every month or so. They break it, we fix it. For me newpipe and yt-dlp havent even stopped working despite not updating anything.
I just downloaded MKBHD's iPhone Air review, and it played perfectly. 1920p whatever that means (somewhere north of 1440p but not quite 2160p... or 2160p/4K but slightly letterboxed). AV1 (Ay-Vee-Wun, not Ay-Vee-Eye), 30fps... looks and sounds great.

I use jdownloader2 which probably uses yt-dl on the back end. But it also downloads from a metric fuckton of other sites, too. It's like the Swiss Army knife of downloaders. And it's Java, so it runs just as well on my Mac as it did on Windows back when I used that. (Wish they had an official dark theme that was easy to set up though. I know how to do it manually but can't be arsed.)
