Your Party: A Left for Itself
In early July 2025, Zarah Sultana announced that she was leaving the Labour Party and launching a new left formation in partnership with Jeremy Corbyn, naming herself and Corbyn as coleaders. However, Corbyn’s team had not formally agreed to any elements of the rollout, or even to her coleader status, and had no idea that she would make the announcement.
Tensions over decision-making protocols and internal structures simmered throughout the summer. Matters came to a head last week, when Sultana emailed supporters announcing a membership portal. She insisted the move was part of the agreed-upon “road map” for building the party and pointed to more than 20,000 sign-ups within hours. Corbyn’s camp, however, denounced it as premature and unauthorized, urging supporters to cancel any payments. Sultana, for her part, said she had been sidelined by what she called a “sexist boys’ club.”
Instead of pursuing this outward focus, the message from Your Party since its launch has been clear: the public comes second. We, on the Left, have to spend a few months focusing on ourselves, engaging in a long and drawn-out process that makes our own activist base feel better about itself, and then, perhaps, we will take the fight to Keir Starmer and Nigel Farage and the immensely powerful interests conspiring to make life worse for millions of working people across Britain.
This brings us to another glaring absence from the early stages of Your Party: the trade union movement. Socialist ideals of democracy, as we have said, are premised on the mass participation of workers. This is a difficult thing to achieve, no doubt, in an era of retreat for the Left. But the nascent Your Party project stands out from precursors by its distance from the organized workers’ movement. Would it really be too much to expect a historic left split from the Labour Party to have come with a number of affiliated unions? What about a process that involved the many unions — many led by socialists — that are not affiliated with the party? Even if you could argue that it is too early for affiliation, how many prominent trade unionists are associated with Your Party from the start? Unfortunately, these questions seem like an afterthought.

Finland | Stubb talks about UN reform in his General Assembly speech
Alexander Stubb, President of Finland, urged sweeping reform of the United Nations during a speech to the General Assembly, calling for the removal of veto rights from permanent members of the Security Council. Stubb described the current global order as fragmented and violent, with more wars underway than at any time since the Second World War. He said the UN was failing too often in its role as a forum for mediation and had remained tied to structures dating back to 1945.

Top pro-Israel TPUSA donor terminated support for Kirk in days before death, sources say
Catty-corner from the Freedom Center is the Pearson Building. According to a TPUSA insider, this structure was to be emblazoned with the name of one of Kirk’s largest and most committed backers, the tech mogul Robert Shillman. A pre-eminent funder of right-wing Zionist and anti-Muslim causes across the Atlantic, Shillman’s millions helped transform Kirk from a young age into one of Israel’s most effective gentile assets.
However, as Kirk drifted from the official, Netanyahu-enforced line on Israel in the past year, expressing frustration with onerous demands from Zionist donors and hosting the leading conservative critics of Israel at his TPUSA events, Shillman apparently grew resentful.
A TPUSA insider has told The Grayzone that Shillman recently cancelled plans to erect the plaque bearing his name inside the conservative organization’s office complex. Those who contribute $1 million or more to TPUSA become eligible for an honorary plaque, but Shillman’s donations were said to be considerably higher.

Just tried roleplaying with AI chatbots
Hey everyone!
So, I’ve been messing around with a bunch of AI chatbots lately—Character AI, and more recently Soulove AI. It’s wild how far they’ve come. They’re not just text chat anymore—you can do voice, images, even video with some of them.
I’ve been using them to create characters for my stories and let them interact in the chat. Sometimes it’s funny, sometimes it’s surprisingly helpful for plot ideas. And yeah… I’ve even ended up debating and arguing with myself through these AIs, lol.
Anyone else here tried using AI chatbots like this? I’d love to hear about your experiences, funny moments, or even disasters. 😅

Whizzing up some Centennial Incognito
Incognito | HAAS®
Incognito is a 100% all-natural hop product crafted to deliver highly concentrated flavor while maximizing brewing efficiency and reducing process loss.Haas
It’s intriguing to me. For professionals (even or especially small ones) the loss of product to vegetable matter is a significant concern especially in jurisdictions that are taxed on the wort rather than the product. I’ve heard of 20% or more loss, but that’s got something to do with being a tiny 3hL system and brewing triple IPAs. Still, it is expensive to throw away so much product.
One of the problems, I think, with nonalcoholic beer is that some of the compounds we like best in hops are not water soluble and depend on the alcohol to pull them out of the dry hopping. I wonder if this product changes that calculus.

Even if they are extracted into this fluid (for example, with polyalcohols, maybe just sugars), they still might crash on "fermentation" of nonalcoholic beer, whatever process is used. Maybe if these are strictly nonfermentable polyalcohols and at the same time highly soluble in various conditions (maybe even at 0C fermentation, as one of possible production ways), this might work indeed.

China Sets First Absolute Emissions Cut Target for 2035, Falling Short of Paris Path

China has pledged for the first time to cut its greenhouse gas emissions in absolute terms, committing to reduce economy-wide net emissions by 7–10% from peak levels by 2035, “striving to do better.” President Xi Jinping announced the target in a video address to a high-level climate summit in New York convened by UN Secretary-General António Guterres during the General Assembly.
[...]
Experts welcomed the structural shift to an absolute cut but judged the ambition insufficient for a 1.5°C pathway. “Anything less than 30% is not aligned with 1.5 degrees,” said Lauri Myllyvirta of the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA). Greenpeace East Asia’s Yao Zhe said the plan “still falls short,” even for tempered expectations. Belinda Schäpe, a China policy analyst at CREA, framed the pledge as politically cautious and argued China’s clean-energy boom could still deliver reductions of 30% or more by 2035 if current trends hold. In her words, today’s announcement should be viewed as the floor, not the ceiling.

Australian Under 16 media ban is censorship by stealth and data harvesting by law
The comments around the under 16 media ban seem to be missing a salient point.
In order to determine if a user is under 16, you need to determine that for every single user .. including you!
This means that your personal data will be harvested in order to determine if you are over 16 or not.
Ummm, they already harvest your personal data to that extent. I guess some of the really paranoid might be caught in the wider net but honestly if you're that paranoid then you're probably not using social media directly anyway. The media too is bringing up this point in that it's a privacy concern but the internet is far less private than 99% of people think anyway, it's a data security concern but not a privacy concern.
Now, the recent age-checking for porn introduced by the e-Karen without any parliamentary or even media debate, that's something to be concerned about.

How could I order a package without my parents finding it?
Hey!
There's some things I am planning on ordering, and I'd like to get them delivered without my parents knowing.
The things in question are some 23w CFL bulbs, e27 sockets, PC fans and a power strip.
I was originally planning on just buying them in person, but literally no shops near me have them.
I can't actually find them anywhere but the american version of amazon -- my country's (Ireland) version of amazon doesn't have them.
I asked a few friends if I could send the things to their house, and get it through them, but all of them said no.
Trump’s Border Czar Involved in Detention Contract Talks Despite Recusal
Stephen Miller’s Hypocrisy Is Right There in His Speech
cross-posted from: sh.itjust.works/post/46700344
Link without paywall:
aol.com/news/stephen-miller-hy…Yesterday, Stephen Miller delivered a eulogy for Charlie Kirk that served as a battle cry for the Trump administration’s state-sponsored war on his perceived foes—a war for which Miller is the primary strategist. The speech was a jarring piece of rhetoric. It is a perfect encapsulation of the ethos of Trumpism, boiling away the president’s idiosyncratic habits of mixing insult comedy and weird digressions into his rhetoric and leaving, in Miller’s tongue, the residue of pure ideology and will to power.
Miller’s theme was that President Donald Trump’s side embodies pure good, his opponents pure evil, and the former is destined to utterly destroy the latter. Republicans have never stopped complaining that Hillary Clinton once described a portion of Trump’s base as “a basket of deplorables.” Yet over the weekend the president’s most powerful adviser depicted half the country as worthless, irredeemably wicked, and fated for destruction.

Sharing File
How are you sharing files between two party, with which system, app, site, etc.
I want to share some PDF with a friend but I’m becoming really tired of the old Google Drive. So any option is appreciated.
Also I’m finding myself always in the need to share a PDF or a file with an anonymous lemmy user if your option could work in this situation that will be great
ProjectSend - Secure File Sharing Made Simple
Free, open-source, self-hosted file sharing solution for businesses. Share files securely with clients while maintaining complete control.ProjectSend
Personally I'm quite big fan of self-hosting, but if you want less a hassle, def try some of the other suggestions.
Since you're interested in anon file sharing, I'd really recommend you take some time to really think out just what your personal definition of anonymous is, and how well it fits in modern digital infrastructure. True anonymous activity is nearly impossible, you can be fingerprinted by even writing a file to a drive to hand to someone. Every action taken online has some trace to it, while IP is generally not precise information, with enough data overlap you can be reasonably guessed depending on how much effort someone is willing to put into it.
So you know, good luck finding a balance lol.

Questions after coming from Lemmy
Hi folks,
I was using Lemmy for the better part of two years and thought I'd come over to piefed and see what's up. A few things puzzled me and I'm hoping this is the best place to ask.
- It seems all top level comments are locked for replies - is that a server thing? A federation thing?
- Scrolling through All, the content just... stops. I'm using the Boost client (maybe that's why?). I get it if I'm sorting by top hour - there's only so much posted per hour. But it's the same for Hot, Scaled, Active, etc.
Edit: looks like both of these are issues with the Boost client. Switching to Summit on Android resolves both.
Thanks for the help!
