At least 26 states have launched their own version of DOGE: These states are simply rebranding longstanding efforts to undermine government in service of the wealthy
The Trump Administration’s so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has wrought havoc on the federal government, diminishing its ability to perform essential work—like administering Social Security benefits for retirees, weather forecasting to predict tornadoes, and environmental pollution cleanup—while creating new inefficiencies and increased public costs. Now, many Republican governors and state lawmakers are demonstrating their loyalty to the Trump administration by setting up state-level versions of DOGE.Despite the novel branding, these initiatives are part of the longstanding right-wing mission to capture and consolidate government in service of the wealthy. In fact, Project 2025, the Heritage Foundation’s roadmap for deconstructing the federal government—which the Trump administration has followed almost to a T—is rooted in decades of state-level efforts to weaken democracy, suppress workers’ rights, and deepen inequality.
At least 26 states across the country have launched DOGE-style efforts purportedly related to “government efficiency” through legislation, executive action, or the creation of new legislative committees. While these initiatives vary, they all use disingenuous calls to “root out inefficiency” and “cut wasteful spending” as a smokescreen for the same right-wing agenda many conservative state lawmakers and their allies have pursued for decades: consolidating power in the hands of a minimally accountable executive, attacking public-sector workers, and cutting public services in order to finance tax cuts for the wealthy.

Sopravvivere al XXI secolo
Collana: SAGGI
Saul Alvìdrez, José Mujica, Noam Chomsky
Saggistica
19/03/2024
Brosura

Sostenibilità e inclusione: Alter Art Festival a Pergola, Senigallia e Corinaldo

Palestinian Authority mounts 'organised campaign' against Mustafa Barghouti after he attacks UAE-Israel normalisation
The Palestinian Authority has attacked the Secretary-General of the Palestinian National Initiative (PNI), Mustafa Barghouti, on Friday over statements he made that were described as "offensive" to the UAE.
The attacks comes as part of a PA-driven media campaign against Barghouti since the outbreak of the Gaza War in October 2023. The current accusations concern a video in which Barghouti apparently criticised the rulers of the UAE for its policy of normalisation with Israel and the Abraham Accords.
Observers say his consistent presence and outspoken support for Palestinian resistance have made him a target of an orchestrated campaign by certain factions within the PA. These factions, critics argue, appear more focused on silencing pro-resistance voices than confronting the Israeli occupation itself—at times even downplaying or rationalising its actions.

Florida’s New Social Media Bill Says the Quiet Part Out Loud and Demands an Encryption Backdoor
At least Florida’s SB 868/HB 743, “Social Media Use By Minors” bill isn’t beating around the bush when it states that it would require “social media platforms to provide a mechanism to decrypt end-to-end encryption when law enforcement obtains a subpoena.” Usually these sorts of sweeping mandates are hidden behind smoke and mirrors, but this time it’s out in the open: Florida wants a backdoor into any end-to-end encrypted social media platforms that allow accounts for minors. This would likely lead to companies not offering end-to-end encryption to minors at all, making them less safe online.

Zuckerberg feared monopoly scrutiny and mulled Instagram split, files show
Meta’s chief executive Mark Zuckerberg considered spinning off Instagram in 2018 in anticipation of a potential antitrust suit, documents unveiled at a trial in Washington showed on Tuesday.
“While most companies resist break-ups, the corporate history is that most companies actually perform better after they’ve been split up,” he wrote in an email at the time. He said there was a “there is a non-trivial chance” his company would be forced to spin Instagram and WhatsApp out anyway.
Zuckerberg made another key concession during the US trial on Tuesday, saying he bought Instagram because it had a “better” camera than the one Facebook was trying to build for its flagship app at the time. In the email, he said Instagram was a “rapidly growing, threatening, network”.

in reply to MuskyMelon • • •Will probably see further movements from the PRC to sell off US treasury bonds and shifting more away from the dollar in general, along with tighter export restrictions on rare Earth. China already said they won’t keep increasing tariffs, but they seem dedicated to not backing down, and they have the Material means to actually resist US trade aggression.
What would be incredibly based is if the PRC starts paying off loans in Africa with its dollars, decoupling the Global South from the US even further. Gets rid of dollars and debt in the Global South, potentially freeing up new customers for goods produced in China and strengthening ties.
