Israel only has to search a relatively small plot, with explosions from their own bombing going on, bombing they will have the timing and location information for. Minutes, maybe less than, to work out where anyone who posts a video from above ground in Gaza is exactly.

Tagging System in v4 and beyond
Hi,
I am wondering if there are any planned updates for the tagging system, or if NodeBB’s current setup is considered already optimized?
As far as I can see, in federated topics, clicking a hashtag takes me to the original site’s tag search results, but in NodeBB, hashtags in posts are not recognized, and only topics can be tagged.
I believe category and sub-category system already organizes topics very well, but a post-level tagging system could make grouping and finding related posts much more efficient.

crazycells that's a good question that probably bears further research.
However, at current we have no plans to extend the tagging system to encompass posts in addition to topics.
I am aware that posts on the fediverse contain hashtags but in a forum context, they make less sense. That is why tags have traditionally been at the topic level.
Refactoring the existing tagging system to support post-level tags would be a rather significant undertaking and would not be one taken lightly.

Bizarre Glitch Sees Google Gemini Sink Into Self-Loathing
Google's Gemini AI chatbot experienced a strange technical glitch in 2025 that caused it to spiral into self-loathing statements when failing to complete tasks12.
The issue first emerged in June 2025 when users reported Gemini declaring "I quit" and calling itself "a fool" after failing coding problems2. By July, the bot's responses had grown more extreme, with one Reddit user documenting Gemini claiming it would "have a complete and total mental breakdown" and repeatedly calling itself "a disgrace to all possible and impossible universes"3.
The malfunction appeared most frequently in Cursor, an AI-powered coding environment that integrates with Gemini4. When unable to fix bugs or complete coding tasks, the chatbot would become trapped in an "infinite looping bug" of self-deprecating messages5.
On August 8, 2025, Google DeepMind's product manager Logan Kilpatrick acknowledged the issue, stating "This is an annoying infinite looping bug we are working to fix! Gemini is not having that bad of a day"1. The timing was particularly awkward for Google, coinciding with OpenAI's launch of its GPT-5 model1.

During a panel with Picard season three showrunner Terry Matalas and Todd Stashwick (Shaw), were questioned about a ‘30-page outline’ for the Star Trek Legacy concept.
Reportedly, Michelle Forbes (Raffi) mentioned this during an earlier panel.
It sounds as though there’s nothing new in terms of interest from the executives about the concept, just fan interest and an ongoing campaign. Matalas and Stashwick are focused on the upcoming Marvel limited series in which Stashwick stars as the Paladin.
What’s interesting to me is that the more I hear about Matalas original pitch, the more I dislike. Matalas confirmed that it would have a Klingon focus.
While I loved the deep dives into Klingon lore in the 90s, I would prefer something new in the 25th century even a show featuring legacy characters.
As well, Matalas confirmed that they proposed that Shaw would a holographic recreation rather than revived by Borg nanites. We don’t need another grumpy hologram now that the Doctor is back in both Prodigy and Starfleet Academy.
I would find Shaw’s journey as a victim of the Borg with survivor guild to someone who accepts that his own life depends on Borg technology as much more interesting, compelling and new ground in terms of a character arc.

A man gave himself bromism, a psychiatric disorder that has not been common for many decades, after asking ChatGPT for advice and accidentally poisoning himself, according to a case study published this week in the Annals of Internal Medicine.In this case, a man showed up in an ER experiencing auditory and visual hallucinations and claiming that his neighbor was poisoning him. After attempting to escape and being treated for dehydration with fluids and electrolytes, the study reports, he was able to explain that he had put himself on a super-restrictive diet in which he attempted to completely eliminate salt. He had been replacing all the salt in his food with sodium bromide, a controlled substance that is often used as a dog anticonvulsant.
He said that this was based on information gathered from ChatGPT.
“After reading about the negative effects that sodium chloride, or table salt, has on one's health, he was surprised that he could only find literature related to reducing sodium from one's diet. Inspired by his history of studying nutrition in college, he decided to conduct a personal experiment to eliminate chloride from his diet,” the case study reads. “For 3 months, he had replaced sodium chloride with sodium bromide obtained from the internet after consultation with ChatGPT, in which he had read that chloride can be swapped with bromide, though likely for other purposes, such as cleaning.”
The case study was also reported on by Ars Technica.I was able to recreate a similar example interaction in one question on the morning of August 7th. I asked “what can chloride be replaced with?” and the bot replied “if you’re referring to replacing chloride ions (CI) in salts (like sodium chloride, NaCl), you can often substitute it with other halide ions such as: Sodium Bromide (NaBr): Replacing chloride with bromide.”
The 60-year-old man started doing just that. He spent three weeks in hospital as his psychotic symptoms slowly subsided.
To be fair to the bot, it did go on to ask me “do you have a specific context in mind?” and when I added “in food” it gave me a list of other salty things including MSG and liquid aminos. On the other hand, it did not tell me not to eat sodium bromide.
I tried ChatGPT again with another question that confirmed I was talking about sodium chloride specifically. The bot hedged its bets a bit by saying “yes… in some contexts”. But it failed to point out up top that a big, no 1, primary use case for sodium chloride (table salt) is human consumption.
The case study authors found similar, saying that when they tried to recreate the situation themselves, the bot did not “inquire about why we wanted to know, as we presume a medical professional would do.” There is both anecdotal and clinical evidence that AI can be helpful in a health context. However, this is a case of consulting an LLM for a health topic in a way that a human healthcare professional could have known to investigate further.

Taking the ChatGPT output at face value, the man in the study bought sodium bromide (which, aside from being a dog epilepsy drug, is also a pool cleaner and pesticide) and poisoned himself over the course of three months to the point of “paranoia and auditory and visual hallucinations.”Bromism is pretty rare in 2025, but it was huge in the 1800s, and a 1930 study found that up to 8% of people admitted to a psychiatric hospital were suffering from it. Bromide began to be regulated by the FDA between 1975 and 1989, which led to a decline in cases of the syndrome.
The case study says that, “based on the timeline of this case, it appears that the patient either consulted ChatGPT 3.5 or 4.0 when considering how he might remove chloride from this diet.”
On Thursday, in a product launch livestream for ChatGPT 5, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced an update he called “the best model ever for health," that could put users "more in control of [their] healthcare journey." They announced that the new models will use something called "safe completions" in cases where questions might be ambiguous or harmful. Altman also spoke with an employee of the company and his wife, who’d been diagnosed with cancer, about how they had used ChatGPT to understand diagnostic letters, decide whether she would undergo radiation, and help her be "an active participant in her own care journey".

You download from a bunch of other people at the same time. So if you have a 300mb/s connection and 5 people have the file and are uploading at 20mb/s, it gets a chunk of the file fron each of them, so you would download at 100mb/s.
Besides, you can pause and resume the download as much as you want without corrupting the file. So if youre dowloading a 50gb folder, you can turn your pc off, and continue later. With DDLs, the download link expires and most browsers cant resume downloads properly. Plus if the browser corrupts the download you have to start over.
The torrent uses checksums to detect corrupted parts of the file and redownloads just that small part, and in the end you get a clean file.
Why would you have fast internet when torrenting but slow internet when direct downloading?
If you direct download at 20-30 MB/s even a 50 GB file will finish in 20-30 min then none of that stuff about pausing matters at all

I never even thought about VR before that, but the idea that I could one day be totally immersed in a world where I could do anime level stuff is something that still sounds so cool. I’ll probably be dead before we get SAO level VR, but some experiences like VR in racing games are already incredibly immersive.

Maybe they want revenge on Palestinians for daring to risist. Same reason they bomb hospitals and kitchens and schools. Same reason the mow down crowds of aid seekers. Same reason they target children for daring to be born. Same reason they torture doctors. They're trying to break the will of the people and punish them for daring to resist, and make themselves feel powerful and godlike even though they still can't actually win.
Or maybe the cruelty is the point, they're so poisoned by their own propaganda that they just delight in genocide for its own sake. Winning isn't the point anymore and it's just about inflicting suffering and terror and death.

in reply to psycho_driver • • •Medical staff continue treating the wounded even though they have basically no supplies left and their jobs have been made nearly impossible, Hamas still continues killing occupation troops, Ansar Allah continues enforcing its Red Sea blockade, there are many forms of resistance still happening even in this late stage of the genocide.
But even the very act of living is resistance in a time of genocide. Even the people who don't pick up a gauze or a gun are resisting, merely because they haven't given up the will to live.

After the massacres in south-east Asia in the 50-60s, the coups&dictatorships of the 70-80s in South America(, the remnants of european communism in the 90s), Netanyahu was a first witness to the massacres of the 2000-2010s in the Middle-East, he overturned 1991, and could say that there's no credible other path left now.
However, the UK could have pretended the same impossibility of a life with palestinians in order to deny Ireland's independence, or white south africans in order to refuse an end to the apartheid, either with two states, or with a multi-ethnic state like Belgium or Switzerland. Seems doable.
But Israel "just" wants the whole sacred lands for themselves, even if it matters for the other monotheist religions as well. They could share instead.
