PSA: Don't use gmail. Sure, it is a good email and is free. And you may not care about privacy, even though you should. But the bigger danger is your e-mail being tied to your wider google and youtube account. Get banned for spamming youtube live chat, or writing "inappropriate" comment, or maybe for using ad-blocker in the future, and you can say goodbeye not just to your youtube account, but emails and drive data. This has already happend in the past, when youtube algorithm evaluated votening in livestream chat by sending 1 or 2 as spam and banned peoples entire google accounts.

Every October, Microsoft host an Employee Giving campaign for charities chosen by staff, with the company matching any funds they raise. During last October’s Giving month, a group of Microsoft workers organised a vigil for Palestinians killed by the Israeli military during the current invasion of Gaza, stumping up donations for organisations such as the Palestinian Children's Relief Fund, while paying tribute to fellow tech workers who’ve lost their lives in the war.
"We were honouring the likes of Shaaban Ahmed al-Dalou, who was a computer science student that got martyred in Gaza," says Abdo Mohamed, one of the organisers and a former Microsoft machine learning engineer. "We were honouring the likes of Aisha Noor Ize-Iji, who was a Washington state resident who had been killed in the West Bank. We were honouring Mai Ubeid, another Palestinian martyr who was a tech worker, and someone who worked with [Google-funded programming bootcamp] Gaza Sky Geeks. People deserved to hear their stories - the Palestinians who had been victims of the genocide deserved a space to be honoured, not to be reduced to numbers." If you’re a white secular westerner like me, you may recoil instinctively from the religiously loaded word "martyr" here – Bassem Saad has written at length about the history of the term as Palestinians use it to describe those killed by Israeli forces.
The vigil was small - "around 50 people, sitting in chairs side by side, in an open space during lunch hour" - and in line with company guidance for such events, Mohamed claims. But at around 9pm that evening he and another organiser, Hossam Nasr, received an email telling them that they had been fired, with Microsoft later claiming that the event "disrupted" work, and should have taken place outside the campus. For Mohamed, the firing reflects Microsoft’s general disinclination to give employees a "safe space" in which to air their grievances about both Israel's treatment of Palestinians, and Microsoft's alleged complicity in supplying technology to the Israel Defense Forces. Rather, Mohamed says, "Microsoft had built this culture of intimidation, retaliation and oppression for anyone who felt the need to speak about what's happening in Gaza”.
If Microsoft hoped to quell such discussion or at least, drive the issue off-campus, their clampdown on criticism backfired. Earlier this month, current and former Microsoft workers with the No Azure For Apartheid movement occupied part of the company’s Redmond, Washington campus with tents and signs, demanding that their employers cease doing business with Israel's military. Just this week, protestors held another sit-in at the company president’s office. NAFA members have even pitched up outside Satya Nadella's lakefront house in canoes. And now, the backlash threatens to engulf Microsoft's entertainment business.

Proves over and over society was not ready for AI chatbots like this. I use it daily, but as someone who fully knows the limitations of what it is and what it can do. I'm mentally sound and can handle whatever garbage it can vomit up, but it helps with my coding. The fact that it was unleashed to everyone going full pandora's box was an insane pure profit driven motive.
Those of us who understand it can completely see it going off the rails. It's just a prediction machine. If you give it horrible stuff like that it's going to predict that it should come up with horrible stuff in response. It's almost impossible to stop it from doing that because the only real way to prevent it is to not train on that stuff before, but when you're dealing with the entire fucking internet that's pretty hard too. (Seriously people, Reddit and 4chan were included in training. How stupid were they with this?)

i had a 8 hour long troubleshooting session yesterday that should have only have taken on hour at most because my new boss was asking copilot for troubleshooting ideas and insisted that i pursue each one instead of listening to me.

I don't have any evidence. But everything I read about this story I get the vibe that parents are dodging their responsibility. Some of the logs clearly show that the kid have issues with the family.
And the fact that they are willing to blame some software instead of themselves speaks quite loudly.
Suicide in kids usually have two real roots, school or family. Because that's the two places the kid will spend more time with. And probably only run to "other places" if one or both those fundamental places are awful.

I don't understand your logic here. Clearly, the kid had problems that were not caused by ChatGPT. And his suicidal thoughts were not started by ChatGPT. But OpenAI acknowledged that the longer the engagement continues the more likely that ChatGPT will go off the rails. Which is what happened here. At first, ChatGPT was giving the standard correct advice about suicide lines, etc. Then it started getting darker, where it was telling the kid to not let his mother know how he was feeling. Then it progressed to actual suicide coaching. So I don't think the analogy to videogames is correct here.

There are books that talk much darker about suicide. If the kid were to read those the parents would sue the author of the book?
There is a whole subgenre of music that is about encouraging people to comit suicide and fall into depression, do we use the "who is going to think about the children" card with thar music and its authors? I there a technical term (or psychological or like a fallacy) for when someone sees something really good but not perfect and thus believes that the slightest bad thing they detect makes it all totally worthless?

Imho #Wikipedia is now used as propaganda tool and they as #LibrePedia need to solve the "who to trust" issue (establish network of trustworthy contributors)
Wikipedia is not written by an agency or organisation. It's written by us. We decide what's in it. It's like democracy: You have to work on keeping it, else it gets lost.
One advantage of #Wikipedia is, that it is a central source of information for everyone. If we loose that and everyone has their own source of information without the need of arguing what the truth is, societies gets more fractured.
Wikipedia is already fractured into different languages.
I agree that the mechanisms of Wikipedia to discuss, to argue and to find truth are not good. In the end it's an old website that hasn't changed much. The biggest innovation was WikiData, which isn't used as much as it should be in the Wikipedia. So what we need is a system that works differently, but as centrally and openly as Wikipedia. We don't need another instance, where just a different group of people writes the texts.
Because the left will be happy when everybody has equal rights, and a high standard of living for everyone.

I think they are trying to go back to before they were grown up and had to deal with adult issues. They idolize their innocent childhood and some how associated that as the time when America was great. They find it really confusing that the child's perspective of that time window was flawed. They also find it confusing that different age conservatives all imagine a different time window for when life was good.

So all the AI is doing is making it easier for the average idiot to access this information, but people who are stopped from accessing the information simply by it not being super easily available, are probably not going to be building bombs in the first place, at least not to completion.
It's not even that hard, at least conceptually, to build a dirty bomb. The difficult part would be getting hold of the radioactive material.
